My wife's MagSafe updated instantly when connected to M1MBP, which is connected to Internet but not on its own charger. But can't get mine to update at all. tried M1 MBP, M1 Air, iPad Pro. It shows up in Settings > General > About so don't think it is a fake. It is on 247.0.0.0. Saw two people say they were on 174.0.0.0 earlier in thread which is puzzling.

Well I tried for several hours in evening to get it to update on my MacBook Pro 15 inch (late 2018 model) but as I mentioned elsewhere I could not get it to happen until I rebooted my Macbook first. After reboot the MagSafe did not show until I unplugged and plugged it back into the USB-C port. And almost “instantly” it updated.

My phone chimed twice this morning, first when attaching MagSafe, second what seems like 10-20 seconds later.

At first I thought the alignment somehow slipped after putting the magnetically paired devices down, but no, they were still centrally aligned.

Maybe when the firmware’s updated, the MagSafe reboots and briefly stops charging causing a second chime on the phone when it resumes.
Yes Exactly what happened to me

Chimed means update completed (charger is rebooting)

For me it never updated if I put Magsafe charger in wall. It updated only when I attached the Mgsafe to my Macbook and charging Iphone.

Try rebooting the computer. I updated three this morning. It wouldn't update at all until I rebooted. I had to reboot again after updating the second charger. It does feel a little odd to go around the house collecting charging pucks to update firmware I never knew they had...

Yeah had to reboot my MacBook as well before the update would happen. And I had to also remove the puck and then install for it to show after reboot. But then after hours of trying it was instant update almost. Not even sure why something so small would require the refresh of a reboot on my MacBook which has not rebooted since a week or so ago when I updated to 12.6.

Oh, a smartphone charger needs a firmware update now.
Thank god, it needn't be charged every night!
Doesn't "need" it, it just offers the ability to have it which is better than not having that ability.

I get some people need to find something to complain about constantly, but this really is only a positive thing.

Set my iPhone 14 pro max back on my mag safe charger this am after reading this blog . It had been charging all
night so i thought it would have updated. The firmware didn't show updated. So i took the phone off the charger and replaced it and then it showed 247.

Never knew the MagSafe charger had a firmware that was updatable. Agree, would be nice to have release notes as to what changed…

Same as many others on this thread, just plugged it into my MacBook and about 2 minutes later the charger flickered and then came back on the new firmware. Didn’t have to reboot to make that that happen

Still showed the old firmware version this morning even though my iPhone 12 was sitting on it all night.

For real, honestly if they just made it so it’s a puck that connects to a lightning or usb c cable that would be even better
That why the wireless one is nice. Just don't get the ripoff Apple one; get Anker.

Wish they would give us the release notes.
I'd rather not even have them mention the update without notes. Not sure if this is worse or the vague bug fixes and feature updates. I remember when release notes were pages long. Rather filter too much data than not have it

Does the Duo show up in Settings -> About and have a firmware listed? Wonder if it's a similar # if so?
I plugged in my Duo and set my iPhone 14 Pro Max on it. The iPhone started charging. When I checked it in Settings the firmware number was 0.0.0.0. I left my iPhone on the Duo for about a half an hour. When I checked the settings again the firmware number was 186.0.0.0.
