There isn't any fix for this? Like you can do with the non-retina iPad mini - switch to thicker fonts so iOS 7 looks a bit better on non-retina screens...?

Apple's solution: buy a retina Mac.

I have to say, though, Yosemite on a non-retina looks like crap.

On a retina, it only stops looking like crap once you change the system font back to Lucida Grande. Otherwise, Helvetica is just too thin.

My update is still supposed to take 12 hours. what in gods name is wrong with apples servers all the time?

i know there are other more specific threads, but given that this concerns the GM candidate....
anyone updated a 2011 MBP 15"?
what features are now confirmed to be left out? I love continuity and whilst i accept it cant transfer app states, can i still answer calls and send SMSs from my 2011 MBP onto an iPhone 6?

Thanks

Yes. But you will have to wait for 8.1 for sms.

Airplay between iOS 8.02 on my iPhone and Yosemite finally working :D

SMS relay not though so :( Is it working for anyone on iOS 8.0.2 or is it an iOS 8.1 only feature?

Finally! I waited so long for Apple to fix that translucency with the Volume HUD which has also a slight redesign. which I feel was a bug but others a feature. It's now blank rather than to transfer the translucency from the wallpaper.

They have also made the Finder icon much more enjoyable without those light/faded borders.

But I also want to mention that I'm happy they made the GM just a candidate, meaning there could be more GM's in the near future. Some of Yosemite still feels inconsistent like some of the Utility apps still has the old icon.

No one else having issue with going from DP7 to GM? It says i can update to Beta 3 after i installed DP7 (which it made me download after i redeemed my GM code) but Beta 3 is the Public beta...

Disagree. I think it looks absolutely fine on my MBP (non-retina).

I am running iOS8 and the PB Yosemite, should I be able to access the new Photos app that syncs between my mobile devices and computer? This is actually one of the biggest features I am ready to see.

What I did was open Messages in Yosemite. I typed the name of a friend I know who doesn't have an iPhone. I then picked his phone number and tried to send a message. It tried to send as an iMessage which failed immediately (He has an HTC One M8). And then it asked me to verify a code on my iPhone which I did. And then it worked.

Still not working, when try to do a non iPhone number, I get a "this number isn't registered with iMessage." I don't get any notification from on my iPhone and when trying to register from my iPhone to get a code on my Mac it doesn't show anything on my Mac. Any suggestions? So frustrated

Why did you have to point that out...it will drive me crazy now. You're absolutely right.

I am pointing out the arbitrary use of the term "modern" (as included in every MR article about Yosemite). It seems that "flatter" is being made a characteristic of "modernism" by MR, and by your definition, anything that is changed is automatically more "modern." Neither is really accurate. The design is merely different, not more modern.

I disagree strongly. I think, generally, there is a clear evolution from the chunkier, grey designs of 20 years ago, to the colourful and accessible skeuomorphic design of the last 10 years, and the streamlined, flatter design of the last few years.

Current design has inherited the best of the past but is setting out to be different in confrontation with that inheritance, making the current trends for "flat" design "modern" insofar as it positions itself against the past.

And this is to assume "modern" as in line with contemporary design trends rather than "modernism" as an art movement, for which the latter term is inappropriate and, indeed, anachronistic.
