And in 2021, when flatter is deemed to be too boring, we'll bring back hi-color, hi-res 3D icons which will really show off the capabilities of the 8K displays we'll all be using.

That might be. Fashion and design often go in circles.

might hold off updating to Yosemite for a while...

I dunno, between reading here on MR about some Yosemite hiccups, some Apple staff friends of mine lowered expectations of if (i.e. they claim OSX 10.10 is somewhat buggy and unpolished), I think I'm gonna have to wait a couple of months after the official release of Yosemite before I consider upgrading to it from Mavericks.

Apple released an update for that already

Bash update is Mavericks and Mountain Lion and Lion etc... no Bash update yet for Yosemite that I've seen...

edit:Update 11:54 AM: Both the developer and public beta releases include the fix for the "Shellshock" bash security flaw. Apple released fixes for OS X Mavericks, Mountain Lion, and Lion yesterday.

The GM Candidate and public beta 4 have the same bash as in the other updates.

Happy to report that Animations in mission control are much smoother now compared to older builds. Couple of annoyances (at-least for me):

1) The two-finger swipe gesture to go back to previous page in safari is not as sensitive as it is in Mavericks.
2)While animations are much better than previous builds, there is, however, a minor lag when you are playing a video in the browser and launch mission control at the same time.

Is it possible to update to the public release and install all upcoming updates if you have public beta installed? Or do I have to do a full new install when the final is released?

Yes it is possible - no need for clean install. I have done this with a few releases in the past. The only difference I see is that the AppStore is offering beta updates when they become available, but I also get all the 'regular' updates.

Hmmm... a GM release about 2-3 weeks before it will be finally released. Is this normal?

It would seem like releasing a GM version now would give them time to manufacture new Macs to release in October/November or am I being crazy?

It's not a GM, it's a GM Candidate. Yes, it's normal and indicative that the s/w is almost ready for general distribution after one last pre-beta round of bug stomping and tweaking.

Why so often? I only do it if updates force me to do it.

It's mainly my MacMini, it usually has nothing to do with the OS being unstable or anything like that, I just either need to unplug it from power for whatever reason or updates.

Can someone tell me if their HD sizes are still an issue/bug?

I might not have enough room to even download the update, I've been stuck at 123MB on a 2TB start-up disc. I had to transfer movies off my drive just to install the last update.

and, yes I would delete and start over, but my Time Machine backup has been corrupt since one of the previous betas was installed.

Hopefully, this GM fixes a lot of issues...

bash is still vulnerable

edit: sorry I'm wrong, was confused by the lack of error message

There will be one final build number to combine both the release candidate and the public beta if no huge bugs are found.

The iOS 8.0.1 update was the only real mishap on their part (other than the botched keynote stream).

However, I, too, will be waiting to update my computer to Yosemite because its user interface is so... ugh! Can't stand it! (I am running the public beta on a test laptop just so that I'm not talking out of my arse. My observations are based on hands-on experience next to two laptops running Mavericks.)

i need my computer more than my phone. If the update is the equivalent to 8.0.1 and i can't connect to the internet or something ill be screwed.

Having that said, I'm in no rush to update my computer software. Its not as important as phone software.

SMS Relay now works (again) with Yosemite GM and iOS 8.1. It makes you authenticate with a code and you can see what devices and mac's you've enabled from your iPhone messages settings. And you can toggle them on/off individually.

Still on Beta 2

I am still on Public Beta 2. Can I leapfrog 3 and download 4, or do I need to install 3 first?

Unlike ios8, this OS has gone through extensive public beta and will be released without any major issues that are unknown. Perhaps the IOS team could learn something here. Just keepin it real.,...
