OK, wow, are you all idiots?
Apple is not the only company to make earphones with a pause button, and if you don't like the earphones that come included buy the apple in-ear ones. If you want to use your old ones, buy an iphone adapter that has a pause button on it (its only like $30).
I've gone through atleast 4 earphones with pause buttons, why are you all crying?

Ok in my mind that wasn't a shuffle, but you're right, the 1st Gen did. I was referring to the original postage stamp size (2 yrs ago) and the multicolor ones (1 yr ago). Both of them used the headphone jack to charge.

Sorry for the confusion.

WOW, i didnt realize theres been 4 generations of shuffle already:eek:

Time flies I guess.

Its nice to have arguments based off of made up facts aint it?

OK. Nobody I know sticks with the white earbuds. And most people I see on my commute have third-party headphones.

You see a lot more Sennheiser products than Apple earbuds.

But Apple is the only company as far as I know that makes headphones with Volume Controls.

The Shuffle looks amazing, but this really sucks if you want to use other headphones.

Why does everybody here love Apple products but everytime they update something, most of the ratings are negative?

Because at announcement no one has actually tried the product and stuff seem weird.
But once people try them, they realize once again that Apple are brilliant and they get hooked.
Or something.

I think the VoiceOver Kit (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3475) is perhaps the most interesting bit in the new Shuffle. In particular, how it effectively adds support for Text-to-Speech for Mac OS X in fourteen languages – only that in this case, it is only enabled for use on the 3rd generation iPod shuffle...

In particular, it's weird (as in, disappointing for me!) how Mac OS X only supports Chinese text input; while:
* iPhone/iPod touch has Chinese handwriting support; and
* iPod shuffle has Chinese text-to-speech support...

I do 320 as well. That's about 2MB a minute, right?

1500MB after formatting, divided by 2MB/min = 750min

750 minutes is over 12 hours. So I just have to ask: How much do you run!?!? Are you Forest Gump or something!?!?

Personally it just bothers me that I would only get 250 songs onto a 2gb shuffle. Do I want to produce several play lists depending on my mood and visit my computer EVERY SINGLE TIME my mood changes and i want a differeny variety of music? no. 4GB > 2GB.

Headphone Remote Dongle

You know, that dongle better be tiny. The iPod Shuffle is itself an incredibly small object, why separate its controls when you can clip the iPod itself on your collar where your controls are dangling an inch away from it. I don't dislike the new iPod Shuffle I just can't really make sense of the reason to separate the controls from an already tiny thing. Put them back on, make it a teeny bit thicker, and no one will complain. And that being said, I really hope I don't impulsively buy one

All the people saying that "oh so now i can't use my high end headphones.."

i think the point of the iPod shuffle is that it's cheap, or for working out.

actually, I'm saying "OH now I can't use my LOW END DISPOSABLE headphones"

I wore out my earbuds (which tend to fall out, btw) and have been using semi-disposable $5 headphones ever since.

If I had to pay $30 to Apple every time my earphones wore out, I probably wouldn't use an ipod anymore.

And let's face it: this is a SHUFFLE. It's not like there aren't other options out there

i thought apple was trying to simplify their products, man i have to tape that manual to my face to remember how to control this damn thing...i prefer the older one way more..

No, you see, as a true audiophile I only listen to Apple Lossless encoded music, which I rip myself using a specially crafted vacuum tube powered record player using ONLY absolute virgin records fresh from the packaging as the original audio source. Of course everything is hooked together with the highest grade monster cable...

It is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE to me that I cannot listen to these high quality recordings using Apple's low-end MP3 player.

Um, you do realize that the new iPod Shuffle plays back Apple Lossless right? This, by far, is the greatest feature of the new iPod Shuffle. I'm surprised not more people are talking about it, as this is the biggest indicator of an entirely new processor inside. With such processing power, this new ipod could EASILY be generating the VoiceOver data on the fly. It will be interesting to see what they actually did, but the ability to decode Apple Lossless files means these new toys have some seriously new high-tech internal chips.

Moving all the buttons to the headphones is a bad idea. I don't want to have to buy an adapter for my Shure headphones.

Looks like fast forward is possible.

i can't believe people are still posting about not being able to use their own headphones. they are making an adapter! it seems like a no-brainer....

That's the silliest logic ever. Just because Apple charges us WAY TOO MUCH for the Proprietary USB cable and headphones does NOT mean it's a good deal that we get them "free with any purchase" of an iPod shuffle.

They probably make $17 profit on that $19 cable, including packaging, shipping, and everything else. Apple accessories are more profitable than the iPods themselves!

If you give me $5, a soldering iron, and 10 minutes inside a fry's electronics, I can probably build a compatible USB cable--and I'm not mass-producing them by the [tens of] thousands using chinese labor and machines, either.

Well said. The backwards logic of some people here that they use to defend apple on absolutely everything scares the **** out of me. Try to be apple fans without throwing away all your critical thinking and being yes-men.

I wore out my earbuds (which tend to fall out, btw) and have been using semi-disposable $5 headphones ever since.

Tend to fall out is an understatement. They keep getting worse and worse - the original iPod earbud design was fine, stayed in happily and didn't tangle much. The redesign started with the desire to keep twisting out of the ears, and the iPhone 3G buds spend more time twisting out than they spend in. I've gone for an A2DP bluetooth adaptor and bluetooth headphones for the iPhone; didn't want to risk the even newer Apple ones.

More on topic, I see this as a nice surprise. If I didn't have my iPhone with me all the time anyway, this would be a good option for walking and listening, and the like. 4GB is a good development, and with, I assume, still shared use as a memory stick, that's pretty cool.

And the adapter will probably cost $30 dollars.

Also, normal headphone wires are already long enough....how are you supposed to attach the remote adapter without making the wire unnecessarily long. I don't understand what was wrong with the old shuffle. It's not like the new ones are that much smaller.

Can we wait for something tangible before casting the criticism?

Glad the gf got me a blue one of the current gen. I like the new one though. Very sleek.
