My response to the new shuffle has been to go and buy a 2GB green 'last-gen' shuffle. Hope it lasts for years to come, because this new shuffle, for me, is a complete and utter joke.

Well the fact that you went ahead an bought an Apple MP3 anyway means they got your money anyway, no matter how bad you think the new Shuffle is. I'm sure they're not too upset at your reaction. ;)

Then they'll probably be ecstatic at my reaction. I'm going to go buy two 2G shuffles, one each for my wife and myself, just to have in reserve in case our current ones die and the 2G is no longer available. Because as several people have pointed out, I won't be forced to buy this new piece of junk.

Apple spent a a lot of $ on R and D to come up with the technology that went into this.

Oh! Is that the way it works.. the more money that goes into developing a product the better it is? Damn, in that case i'm going to go out get myself a copy of vista because a whole lot of "$ on R and D" went into that one.

This is a forum to discuss any news and events. There is more than the option of replying "yeh this product is flippin sweet i'm getting mysef four of these!!" so don't whine when people criticize Apple's holier than holy decision making.. every company makes a bad decision sometimes – I would say this is one of Apple's.

Just like how no one will buy the MacBook Air, right?

Good point :)

Everybody knows that they aren't forced to buy products, that's not the point. People should voice their concerns when they feel that Apple is making wrong technology choices, or acting primarily to increase its profit margins at the expense of better products. While this may be the "latest" technology, it certainly isn't the "greatest."

Yeah, Klipsch is planning one at an approximate $100 price point. That will add a bit to the base price of the shuffle.

I use a shuffle and the first thing I did was throw away the Apple earbuds; they were terrible.

I'm sure Apple will get the message if this item sits on the shelves collecting dust. We vote with our wallets everyday.

Why does Apple have to build low end products to be backward compatible with everyone? I'm not ridiculing you, I'm just asking a question. Please quit crying about these things. (BTW, now I'm ridiculing you.) You are acting like a child who didn't get what he wanted for Christmas and now must pout and moan to let everyone know.

If you want to buy a new Shuffle, get the damn 3rd party dongle to work with whatever earphones you're using. Apple spent a a lot of $ on R and D to come up with the technology that went into this. If you don't like it, don't buy, but don't come on here and cry and moan then come back and cry and moan more when someone doesn't agree with you. [/rant]

But I CAN complain, as that is what this forum is ABOUT. Did you not understand that when you singed-up? I can and will continue to point-out the shortcomings and shortsightedness of Apple. That is NOT complaining but expressing MY OPINION. I am sorry that offends you - well, not really.

Why do posters here continue to apologize for Apple and their LOUSY product releases? Why should I HAVE to buy a dongle to make the same headphones that worked with the iPod Shuffle 2GB version? It is not like the 4GB Shufle is cheap! It is not! Who ares if it talks - SILLY IDEA - and WHO CARES if it is small enough to INHALE on accident? NO ONE ASKED FOR THAT! Also - it is NOT like headphones aren't STANDARD. Leave is to Apple to modify a STANDARD and change things up in order to sell you a $20 adapter of $50 set of headphones.

Keep apologizing for Apple - they told me to tell you 'thanks'.

I expect the 4th generation to be released very very soon
Probably within a year. :p

True. Voting with our wallets can make a difference.

Unfortunately, some of us are like insects to a light on a dark night and we are drawn to Apple and their new products. So while I have bashed the iPod Shuffle for the lack of controls and crappy earphones, I will probably pick up one. :)

I think maybe apple did it to force headphone makers to include remote controls in their headphones from now own, but they were smart enough to try the little experiment with the ipod shuffle.

Its still not cool though...

hmmm.... I just realized I work out a lot inside using that P90X program, and I run on the weekends...(putting my armband with my nano on for that)

But inside this could be useful, music does help me workout better, but putting on the armband for weights and pull ups isn't always comfortable. And I am the many few that like the Standard Headphones so I may go for the black one :D I've never had a shuffle so the tiny aspect really draws me to it. And I only use my nano in the truck and for running, but if I can run with it the nano may stay in the truck :)

I don't approve of pandering to the needs of whingeing children, but I do think that their questions should be answered.

As a general rule - they don't. Most people on this forum are aware that the world doesn't revolve around them.

It's okay, the big bad boogy Apple isn't going to force you to buy one. So be real grown up for me, and invest your money instead.

Who ares if it talks - SILLY IDEA - and WHO CARES if it is small enough to INHALE on accident?
No I don't think anyone cares that it talks either, but it is a useful feature as the device lacks any other way of choosing playlists or identifying songs.
If you should inhale the shuffle - the first thing you do is tell mummy or daddy so they can take you to the hospital. Next is to register with the Guinness Book of Records, cause you must have a HUGE nose.

I hope that clears some things up for you darlin. Now you go and have a nice nap.

OH, and I am sorry [if this] offends you - well, not really.:):)

Yeah! Cute girl, nice ti... Wait, why are you all talking about ipods? There was an ipod in the video? Where? :D

If they include the 'wrapping' I'll buy one tonight! :p

I'm glad they used a new person for the guided tour video.

Every video with iNerd 2.0 makes me close the window about 30 seconds in. :D

She did the AppleTV 2.0 video and the 2G iPod touch one. One website described her as "likes to wear grey, never been married"....

Glad it wasn't "Jarrrrn" or the creepy guy that did the iPhone 3G tour - he looks like he never blinks.

Elegant new shuffle

I played with the new Shuffle yesterday at the Apple store on Fifth in NYC. I must say that the design is extremely elegant and just impressive as to what they've done with size and concept. I am not a fan of the Apple earbuds so at the moment this is not for me. I think it's only a matter of weeks before new headphone options become available or a simple extender cable out of the Shuffle that has the controls that one plugs their own headphones into is available. Probably the best idea is an adaptor plug as one doesn't want a $79 Shuffle that needs expensive new headphones because of the design. But overall, removing the headphone issue from this equation gives us a design to marvel at.

What grade are you in? You respond like a Jr. High student. I am in my late 30's and have children - so I do not whine as you say. I simply post a COGENT (that means logical and thoughtful) argument (that does not mean yelling - an argument means DISCOURSE or a rational outlay of points and counter points).

If people are not able to express their opinion without people like you becoming rude and thoughles this forum will fall flat - and people like you would be the reason. I have EVERY RIGHT on this forum to express my opinion of Apple and their recently LOUSY product releases. You can disagree in a respectful way - and not that of a disrespectful person. That is the problem with the world today - people have ZERO understanding of others nor do they care to. I did not insult you, not once. I defended my position and you felt the need to lower the discourse to the level of a school-yard tussle.

Apple screwed the pooch on this re-design and since I know you can read, the majority of ALL Apple posters and fans agree. Are they all wrong as well? To you, maybe.

Good luck with your over-priced (even for Apple) Shuffle and terrible headphone. Well, at least it talks to you.

Well, I'm only 17 and a recent school leaver, so you got me there. Congrats on being older, and on the children.
I don't see the connection between age, kids, whining and omniscience though. Maybe cause I'm so young.
Since you mention Jnr High - we call it middle school in AUS - I was in the school debating team :D. Yet I still failed to find the logic or thought in your argument.

Everything about your discourse was belittling and arrogant, which was why I responded as I did.
I'm replying again, because of that same discourse you used in your first paragraph.

Honestly didn't mean any disrespect, so I do apologise for that.

Ok so from a retail perspective, during since Wednesday, we've had more people come in and ask for the new Shuffle in 4 days than we've had people come in and ask about the other new iPods during the week after they were announced. Plenty of normal people seem excited for it. That's really all that matters. You guys might not like the new Shuffle, but plenty of people do. So stop assuming that just because you don't like then the masses won't accept the new Shuffle, either.

Are you suggesting that the thousand people on this forum don't fairly represent the millions of iPod buyers. NO WAY!!!

Good to hear they are popular. I'm waiting for a black one to come into the local store.

I know! My Best Buys only have the silver ones right now I am eagerly waiting to buy the black one :D Hope I get it tomorrow to use for my workout!

Why should we care what you think, do you speak for everyone, so because you think it's lousy, it means everyone else out there thinks its lousy, your opinion does not equate to everyone else.

People on this forum and the internet as a whole think too highly of himself.
There was even one dude complaining because he can't use 400 dollar headphones with a 79 dollar shuffle. :D
