And you'll be back, like so many Android users who continue to visit and comment on iPhone-related forum.

Yes, I probably will. But I do want to see a decent screen size first.

You know, this forum is not only iPhone-related. The last time I checked, it was also related to iPads and Macs. This is why I still read and write here.
Oh, and btw, I would love to see an iPhone with the same screen size as the SGS4. But up until now, it seemed too good to be true.

After 3 months with a Galaxy S4 I'd welcome an iPhone with a 5 inch screen, maybe a little smaller but definitely not bigger.
I traded the S4 for a 5S, iOS is still much better IMO. Although Android has improved a heap since I last checked it out with an S2.

You do realize that the iPhone screen size never changed in the one dimension that defines its ability to be hold in one hand? Do you!

So what? Not everyone wants to sacrifice a more versatile screen size just to keep the device easier to use with one hand.

Stupid big screen. Don't need, don't want, not now, not ever. Go buy some junky phablet instead of ruining iPhone with this crap.

Two new models of a great phone, and (finally!) with a decent screen size too!!

Too bad I went over to Samsung already. :D

why is it too bad? Not like you are trapped in a forever contract.

Which has always been the issue with samsung phones for me. The OS is android.

Maybe I'm nuts

OK, maybe I'm nuts, but I don't see the point of a bigger iPhone. The issue isn't that Apple could't do it. It's really not that hard to make something with a bigger screen. The issue is... why? I have average size hands, I mean, I can play a piano and get an octave spread so I figure that's average. I find the 4" screen on the iPhone 5(s/c) to be barely too big. I want to be able to use my phone with one hand. If I wanted to use two hands to use a phone, I'd say just stick cellular voice capability into the iPad mini and it would be great (I have big back pockets). Why make some phablet size?

Now, I understand that there are people with big hands who can palm a basketball and they would love a larger phone. But if you take a survey, I'd think Apple designed for the average sized person.

I believe if Apple went to a bigger screen, they would do it with edge-to-edge screen technology. In other words, the entire device would be the screen, at least the front. Of course this would require some intelligence to prevent false taps, etc. Such a think could be made out of sapphire since it would be more prone to wear (especially if it curved at the edges which could be possible. Also, it would need to be a solid sheet of scratch-proof material to contain the TouchID and camera which would be situated in the screen. How is this done? Pure Bleeping Magic I suppose.

It will be interesting to see what Apple does, but I can guarantee you they won't make the screen larger until they can maintain the same form factor (one-handed use) and ample battery with a favorable weight.

Phones got smaller for a reason (from the 1990's).

Yes, and that reason was because all they did was call people and send 3 letter messages (because who wants to type out a full thought on a 9 digit keypad?) Having a larger screen was worthless. Making it smaller, on the other hand, helped it fit into the pockets of jeans for children.

Who would buy songs on iTunes when you can download them from Napster?

Why a touch screen on an iPhone when Blackberry and Nokia use keyboards?

Who needs a giant touch screen iPod when we have netbooks?

Your comment will be forgotten just like the rest that expressed doubt.

And instead of answering it, you covered it up with more questions.

The curved screen DOES NOT have any logical reason to exist at all, unlike those three you mentioned.

Curved screens are dumb. Not only is the top side curved, but the bottom side is curved as well. Since the device doesn't sit flat, it will rock back and forth every time you touch it, if you lay it on a table. Dumbest thing ever.

I used a Samsung something-something last week - it was huge, and the screen was amazing. If an iPhone came in this size, I'd be all over it. In comparison, my iPhone 5 felt tiny and cramped.

And I should say I was a total skeptic - I didn't see the point in a large screen at all, and before I actually used one, I thought they were pretty silly.

Bring on a large iPhone 6!

Agreed.

Don't want, don't need.
Next step up is a phablet.

Those were dumb phones. Smart phones only grew since the moment of inception. While the dumb phone only needs a mike and a speaker the smart phone is only as good as it's screen.

I know they've got to answer the competition to a point, but I personally want my iPhone to fit in my front pocket, bigger than that and I've got to carry it in a bag that I don't have with me. If I was desperate about having a stupidly big screen (and I do find them funny as people do look cumbersome with them) I'd use the iPad Mini as virtually all those I talk with I FaceTime with, but then I'd have to start carrying around a bag :S

For me, Samsung are catering to those that just think bigger is better, when I'm on the move I want compact, at home, I can use my iMac/iPad

You are conflating two separate issues: screen size and hand size. Most people have two hands and they are not afraid to use them. That solves the "problem". But one can't resolve the problem of a small screen with two hands (or three eyes)

I was going to answer, but this person already basically covered it.

My Nexus is curved a bit like that picture. The curve makes it:

  • Easier to fit into a pocket than a flat chunky phone.
  • Follows the curve of my thumb motion better.
  • Helps protect the front from face down falls.

Most people who've used a curved and/or larger screen phone, understand their appeal.

Even when Sir Johnny later making his typical iPhone video, and suddenly saying 4.6" iPhone is perfect for your thumb to reach from "here" to "here" ..?

So you were not upgrading from 3.5" iPhone to 4" iPhone as of today? I thought Steve said 3.5" is the bestest phone display ever created? Just like 9.7" iPad is the only appropriate size for tablet? Turns out they were all wrong, were they?

If you follow Apple for awhile, you pick up that they like to keep everyone in the dark about their plans. Sometimes that means poopooing something that's in their own labs. You can bet the 4-inch iPhone 5 was in development way before Steve passed.

That, or they find a way to execute it better. Enormous screens TEND to make cumbersome bodies. But I could see them going 4.5, 4.7 with less bezel and hardly any device surface a area increase. They tend to find just the right balance that few others have bothered to reach, or leapfrog over the compromises (e.g. MacBook Air vs net books).

My only issue with these new curved and larger iPhone's is that they will be running iOS :D

Disagree.
I know MANY people that shy away from iphone because of the small screen. Obviously there is a point where it'll get too big, but that Dosent mean apple should limit themselves to a small screen and lose customers for it just because people like you like small/narrow screens.
I have a 5S, and will upgrade if the next phone has a bigger size.
