Exactly. The iPad mini already exists. Let a phone be a phone. 4" or smaller (I prefer 3.5") please.

Just because you want a mini/narrow screen, doesn't mean apple will not increase size in future models. They'll lose potential and current customers if they don't do it. Including me (5S owner)

Also, don't you guys understand that a larger phone will = a juicier battery too??
I agree size such as the note is too big, but I see apple hitting the perfect screen size.

Curved screens are dumb. Not only is the top side curved, but the bottom side is curved as well. Since the device doesn't sit flat, it will rock back and forth every time you touch it, if you lay it on a table. Dumbest thing ever.

Not if it's curved in the opposite way. Logic.

Why the hell does everyone in the cell phone industry think that bigger is better? If it can't fit in my pocket or the cup holder of my car, no thanks.

cool? it looks stupid.there is nothing even cool about it.

The render is not that far off from the patent. Ditch the physical home and volume buttons to maximize screen real estate while not increasing the size of the device. Think iPad Air to the extreme, or maybe this is just the next step? I'd like to see what Apple could do.

not going to happen.
it looks extremely awkward and un-ergonomic to use + there is zero benefit.

You assume that he would have made different choices... Interesting... This is getting way to messianic...

We probably would not have the iPad mini. We probably wouldn't have the Lightening connector. We probably wouldn't have the new iOS. We perhaps wouldn't have the new Touch. We most likely would not have three different models of the iPad selling at the same time, but who knows...

The Lightning connector must have been in his plans, and I don't see what he'd have against it. We wouldn't have such an ugly iOS 7.

And instead of answering it, you covered it up with more questions.

The curved screen DOES NOT have any logical reason to exist at all, unlike those three you mentioned.

My point is that we don't know until Apple tells us why we need it, just like the other products above. Steve Jobs once said that Apple doesn't use focus groups in order to find out what people want because people don't know what they want until they see it.

Apple has to react to market pressure. Bigger iPhone screen is a given. Hopefully it comes next year if apple will figure way to mass manufacture iPhone screen without much bezel and likely with higher pixel density.

If you are interested in the benefits of the curved screen, this is a pretty good article.

Take a look at something like the Moto X. Marginally larger than the iPhone 5S with a 4.7" screen.

It's not 2010. You can cram a lot if screen into a tight fitting form factor these days.

Exactly! I don't think the entire screen will be curved but with the sapphire glass manufacturing acquisition Apple could mass produce a beveled edge display tapering down to a thin bezel making it easier to hold. Once paired with an IGZO display, an A8 processor, increased RAM & bug-fixed iOS 8, we should have a beautifully thin device with long battery life while increasing the display size.

I'm perfectly fine with Apple releasing a 5.5 and 4 inch iPhone 6. Then, everyone's happy.:)

I used a Samsung something-something last week - it was huge, and the screen was amazing. If an iPhone came in this size, I'd be all over it. In comparison, my iPhone 5 felt tiny and cramped.

And I should say I was a total skeptic - I didn't see the point in a large screen at all, and before I actually used one, I thought they were pretty silly.

My thoughts too! I thought the large screens looked ridiculous. However, I used a friend's Samsung Note 3 to look up something and the larger screen was great, especially for displaying text compared to my iPhone 5. Not a fan of the android os, though.

Is it too early for launch date guestimates? I say 3rd week of September 2014 (Q3 2014?)… LOL :D

The Lightning connector must have been in his plans, and I don't see what he'd have against it. We wouldn't have such an ugly iOS 7.

Um, he was against the original iPod, and the original iPad. He made a lot of bad decisions... John Sculley was perhaps actually near the least of them...

Obviously the worst decision he made was to not get the treatment that was offered at the discovery of his cancer...

I really could see Mr. Jobs not being in favor of the Lightning connector as it would create fragmentation.

BTW, look up messianic. Steve Jobs wasn't a God, he was a man that risked a lot by taking a lot on his shoulders. He could have walked out at any time after Apple started clinging to him after nearly destroying itself. Well, it was almost dead at the time. He made a lot of decisions and I think it was cathartic for him too, but he fixed Apple, and probably fixed himself too to a certain extent...

But, yeah, anyone that thinks that they might have a clue what Mr. Jobs would have thought are probably wrong. Including, potentially, me...

But I thought that when the Lightning connector was coming out, that the rumor was that Mr. Jobs didn't like that connector and still clung to the 'dock' connector. I think the dock connector allowed for more flexibility for A/V connections which makes the Lightning connector less flexible and a negative. I can see why he wouldn't be for that connector scheme. Perhaps it was Mr. Cook's first 'executive decision'...

As far as iOS 7, I really doubt that he would be in favor of iOS 7. He OK'ed the icons and the effects in the original iOS, and I'm sure he would want to throw it all away. Some of the effects seem 'bizarre' and 'stilted'... I think iOS 7 is perhaps Tim Cook's second 'executive decision'...

Who would buy songs on iTunes when you can download them from Napster?

Why a touch screen on an iPhone when Blackberry and Nokia use keyboards?

Who needs a giant touch screen iPod when we have netbooks?

Your comment will be forgotten just like the rest that expressed doubt.

Those questions have obvious answers ...

I'm legitimately curious as to what benefit this would bring...

Thanks, ElTorro. This is great!

Not to be that guy, but ...

I would love to get the new iPhone with a larger screen! I'll most likely upgrade my current iPhone 5 if this comes out.
