Can't tilt away from glare....

what's the point of a curved screen? Larger screen? I can see that, but do not understand what a curved screen is for.

I've never understood why you'd want a curved screen.

1) Now you've got even less of an edge to hold onto.

2) If you're getting glare and it's off to the side a little, you can't tilt away from it, they'll always be a portion pointing towards it. (I'm speaking specifically if you're somewhere that has a few items that will cause glare that you would have just had to tilt a few degrees from your screen to miss it and now that's less of an option.)

The shape also seems quite inefficient for square electronic parts (but that's not my area so maybe not, maybe they just put oddly shaped battery around it.)

I get a large screen is nice.. why i have a 27" iMac, and a 60" TV... But... i really dont want my phone any bigger.... atm when Im biking to and from work its already big enough(iPhone 5s) in my pocket...

What i want is a split device and screen.. so bulky battery and processor goes in bag/ coat - and nice slim "dumb display" on my arm or in google glasses.. or what ever they come up with...

(and in the perfect world were they did not want to charge me for 2x A7 processors I could only have 1 and have it power my iPad dumb screen size device some times .. and other times a wrist sized...)

The render reminds me of this

The render is not that far off from the patent. Ditch the physical home and volume buttons to maximize screen real estate while not increasing the size of the device. Think iPad Air to the extreme, or maybe this is just the next step? I'd like to see what Apple could do.

Not for everyone

The note 3 really looks like a monster next to the iphone but if you could try one for a few days you would never go back to a smaller screen. I can't wait for a larger screen iphone so the doubters can see how much better it is to use.
As for curved displays that are good for putting notifications on the side of the screen so you don't have to take your phone all the way out.

This is a better picture for size comparison because this is around what size the new iphone screens should be.

I don't think their are any Apple "doubters". Most people know what size phone works right for them.

Some people use their phone more for voice and texting, for those people the current iPhone is ideal. Some people play games, browse the web, and check their Facebook page every 10 minutes. For them, a large "phablet" size device is more ideal. The former carry their phone in a pocket or purse, the latter in their backpack with their schoolbooks.

The only doubters are the people who chose Android.

None, which is why this story is nonsense, but good for click bait.

I can't imagine an advantage either, but apparently LG and Samsung both think there's reason to do it. Basically, there must be some theory out there concluding that curved screens are better than flat.

My analysis of this news item is that it's an attempt at FUD by Apple. So they can punk the tech industry the way they punked Samsung into quickly producing that turd of a smart-watch.

Looks like I'm the first one....

Tim Cook-welcome everyone, today I present you with something that will renovate the phone business...iCurve now running ios8

Quick someone patent that name...

Looks good but will they ditch the home button one year after the fingerprint scanner?

I was never an enthusiast about gavin a bigger iPhone, but with iOS 7 it seems like all those gestures in the top and bottom areas of the screen require us to have a bigger screen. Browsing a website is kind of annoying nowadays with those areas been kind of useless now. They are kind of forcing us to demand a bigger screen...

Curved glass design

Do some of you people understand that the curved glass will could most likely serve as an aesthetic and not so much as a functional purpose?

Curved phone my ass! Larger screen sizes, obviously!

If you're getting glare and it's off to the side a little, you can't tilt away from it, they'll always be a portion pointing towards it.
+1, there's no practical reason to make a curved iPhone. It just doesn't make sense, functionally or aesthetically.

Does anyone actually believe this? Larger screen phone, sure, but curved display, no way.

A curved display doesn't make much sense on a phone. It might make sense, though, on an iPod nano, or an "iWatch", or whatever they end up calling it....

Looking forward to the release and the comments from all those iPhone purists who have been laughing at any screen bigger than 4 inches. :D
You do realize that the iPhone screen size never changed in the one dimension that defines its ability to be hold in one hand? Do you!

To me it's a given that Apple wants to release a larger screen iPhone, and that the reason they did not do it this year is more of a software problem than a lack of will from them.

iOS 7 is the first step toward moving iOS developers to use flexible layouts in their apps and thus easily support larger/smaller resolutions, and iOS 8 will be the final step.

So I believe that a larger screen iPhone and/or phablet and/or larger iPad will be unveiled at WWDC next year at the same time as iOS 8.

The devices themselves won't ship until september at the earliest, but iOS 8 will be available to developers with support for the new screen sizes in the Simulator so that they can get their app ready in advance for the new devices.
