How much more are you personally willing to part with for an iPhone ?

Can they get 1499 from you this year or even next year for the iPhone?
I personally wouldn’t. But if the market demand is price inelastic enough, they should absolutely price it at $1499.

So far there is not one featured rumor that is worth a price increase, unless you are a pro photographer. Maybe something will make it worth it.

With a family of 4 with iPhones I personally cannot sustain another price increase in Apple iPhones. If this happens ... I’ll pack my bags … Apple iPhone prices only go up with less innovation, never down, its becoming a bad deal. This thing started at $599 for a high end model. Yes, inflation this and inflations that, currency here currency there, but if inflation was the core driver, we would be paying on $20.000 for a base computer.

Apple is reportedly planning to increase the price of the upcoming iPhone 13 series as a way to compensate for the increased costs of chip production from its leading chip supplier TSMC, according to a report from DigiTimes.

According to the report, TSMC is planning to increase the costs of its chip production, impacting several customers, including Apple. TSMC is reportedly looking to increase its costs by as much as 20% for its "advanced and mature process technologies." The new changes are expected to go into effect in January.
As a way to compensate for the increase of the costs, Apple is reportedly eyeing to increase the costs of the upcoming iPhone 13 series to "mitigate the impact of rising costs on their profitability."
Apple this year is preparing some considerable improvements for the iPhone 13, including features specifically designed for professional photographers and videographers. On the higher-end models of the upcoming lineup, Apple is rumored to be adding support for ProRes for videos and portrait mode videos. Apple may see both of these features as justification for an increase in price on its most premium iPhones.

Apple is expected to hold an all-digital event which will include the announcement of the iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7 in just a few weeks. To catch up on everything we know about the upcoming iPhones, be sure to check out our comprehnsive guide.

Why does MacRumors continue to report on DigiTimes articles? They have a terrible track record and never got anywhere near coming up with something vaguely realistic.

I’m sure prices will come down once the supply chain goes back to normal.

Oh wait.
As long as they keep their margins I don’t see why not, if it allows them to sell more. They’ll try to charge as much as possible, I’m sure, but also to get as much customers as possible as well.

See how the mac mini got a price cut with the move to apple silicon.

I know Apple have their army of devotees and will buy any thing with a half eaten apple on it - but at what point do they price themsleves out of the market, or go beyond the reach of normal hard working folk who would love to own an iPhone but simply cannot afford one other than getting it on the tick.

I recently sold my IP11 PM (was getting tatty) and put the money towards a Pixel 4a5G. What a fantastic phone for under 500 quid! I won't be purchasing another iPhone for the forseeable future - not at over a 1000 quid, which is a shame really because it's a great piec of kit.

Do Apple really need to boost their trilion dollar bank account that much? Imagine sales figures if they actually 'dropped' the price. They would make just as much profit through volume of sales.

Apple - give your heads a wobble. FFS.

There are consequences to the various disruptions in semiconductor parts (fire, covid) and the current fiscal policies of dramatic inflation.

I understand the increase on price, but I hope this doesn't justify a permanent increase in price. Once a customer is willing to pay X for a product whats stopping them from keeping it at that price regardless of production costs?

The first question is irrelevant, they're not a charity.

Apple has the answer to the second part. The bean counters model consumer behaviour and if they conclude that an x% increase in price would lead to less than ~x% decrease in sales (simplified argument, ignoring substitution of other iPhone models), the iPhone should be priced higher. Your argument would basically ask Apple to price the iPhone at $1.

My iPhone X is getting long-in-the-tooth in terms of its camera & battery, but is fine everywhere else. A price increase would probably persuade me to hold off upgrading for another year.
I replaced my X battery using Apple service and it feels like new again. Yeah would love new camera capability but day to day operation still feel fast. I can see I’ll use it into the 5th full year easily.

Hahahaha yea good luck trying to get me to buy this almost featureless upgrade (120 Hz on a phone, a better Ultrawide? camera hm ok) for even more $$$ than even the overprice 12 Pro Max was. Sorry guys but enough is enough. Can't even put new higher res sensors, behind screen selfie cams, touch ID on screen etc in it that the cheap china guys can... but charging more and more and more and more? Erm yea. Good luck Tim and the gang. Me out.

That's exactly what will happen.

Even if we assume that TSMC components make up 100% of iPhone’s retail price, a %3-%5 increase means somewhere between $30 and $50 for a phone that sells for $1000.

Since the TSMC silicon probably costs less than a tenth of the retail price of the device, the effect should be negligible. Apple won’t increase the price of the phone to save a few bucks per device.

On the other hand, they may do a price increase to balance the lost sales because of the chip shortage.

May I also have a salary increase to balance the lost earnings from all the work I didn’t do?

Still climbing after that …

The conclusion I take is any price increase have been done to increase profits, not to maintain it. Nothing against that … as long as people buy and records are broken … pump it up.

For me, as I’ve said in another post ... don’t see the value in another price increase … Iff another comes my plans to upgrade to an iPhone 13 Pro from an X will be chattered.

PS: When it comes to personal tech I hate to feel I need to buy into another price increase because I feel locked in/down. That is not the way to do it, one needs to actually feel good about it. Another one after another after another one … I’ll be looking for options.

oh no, I totally have no idea how business works, so Im just going to go off on a rant about Apple, because you know, Apple. Never mind the Samsung can't get the chips so they are biasing production to the expensive phones that they make, that is not a price increase on no because - Samsung! I'm jut a typical roboboy hanging out, nothing to see here, lalala

Samsung dropped the price of the new Folds

For those arguing that people will stop buying iPhones if Apple keep increasing prices, they will simply just shake up the iPhone line-up before that happens. Just shuffle around the demand to a different set of price points.

See the introduction of iPad Air, iPad Pro, iPad mini.
See the removal of MacBook and introduction of non-Touch Bar MBP 13.
