I sent Apple feedback at apple.com/feedback that if they put ads into maps I will stop using it completely.
I also am at the point where I stop using just about anything that throws too many ads, or sometimes "any" ads. Too intrusive and distracting. There are usually other ways to get the services you need (e.g. maps) without the ads.

I'm getting Ad'ed out. I honestly don't understand how these ads make money. Whenever I see any sort of pop-up ad or an ad anywhere where I don't want to see one (which is almost everywhere), I just get pissed at the company the ad is for. I don't buy anything from these types of ads. Do people really see adds in apps and actually buy whatever they are peddling? If so, that is sad. Don't do that, and we will eventually see less of them.
Yeah, literally thought the same. And I worked in marketing, not in ad business tho. Probably ads exists because some people in PR and marketing were highly successful in propagating for a need for these ads to their bosses, so they could have some useless work to do to be able to pretend they “work” during their paid 8 hours/day.

These days I find 99% of all the ads irrelevant, and for the leftover 1% - there is 0.001 probability I will think about buying a product they promote, and not necessarily from them, i.e. it would work as “reminder”, like “oh, herbal tea, right! I need this, not this one though.”.

Back in the days ads were mostly about making brands look cool and fun, I still rewatch some old advertisements from 90s just to get a grip on what was actually “a good ad”. Now many brands try to sell thru clickable ads, and this strategy probably has very low usefulness and “ROI” in terms of new clients. But I believe personalized deals still work though, people love deals so they would click instantly when they see “25% off today!” claim in the ad

At least in this case it's more like the ads in Google maps. They aren't bombarding you as you use the product, but rather when you search for something one or two top items may say they are sponsored. For the few times I search for something it's easy to scroll past them and in some cases the sponsored ones turn out to be good results. Still not great but not as bad as other ads.

Apple Maps could feature integrated ads as soon as next year, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports.

iOS-26-Maps-Glass.jpg

In his latest "Power On" newsletter, Gurman said that Apple's plan to bring more ads to iOS is moving "gaining traction," with the Maps app being next in line. The project will apparently give restaurants and other businesses the option to pay to have their details featured more prominently in search.

The system is said to be similar to Search Ads in the App Store, which allows developers to pay to have their software appear in a promoted slot above other results for relevant queries. Apple's approach reportedly leverages AI to deliver relevant and useful results, in a better interface than similar offerings from Google and other companies. Gurman warned that the move risks some amount of consumer backlash.

Dropping $1000+ on a phone and still getting commercials, ads shoved down our throats. 😡
We CANNOT escape this nonsense. Pure total greed.

Leaving Apple Maps because "it has ads" and going to Google Maps doesn't really make sense. I am using Apple Maps because I was avoiding Google Maps ad tracking stuff.

Not sure about Waze, but seems the only mapping solution free from ad/tracking would be the opensource stuff like OpenStreetMaps. On the phone I do have Organic Maps (which use OpenStreet) works well, but it's not very polished/refined

Literally more than half of the people in this thread complaining about a rumor that Apple Maps might get ads at some point in the future, have themselves admitted that they do not use Apple Maps anyway. So something that might not even happen, has people that don't even use that App, complaining not because it will affect them in anyway, but rather for the sake of just complaining.

Another not so brilliant move by Cook...

Apple’s in an interesting time where Cook has squeezed as much money as possible out of everyone, and they don’t seem to know how to squeeze any harder without causing themselves problems.
If they were innovating and creating new products people actually want, it wouldn’t be an issue.

On the other hand, maybe we have enough technology. Maybe what would really improve our lives (especially in America) is public healthcare, less pollution, more green space, and more time with family and friends

It seems like the new technology coming out (like Vision and AI) take us further away from the humane lives we would be happiest living. And maybe that’s why Apple can’t seem to move forward on anything

I think I need to accept that the Apple which put its user’s experience first is gone. Which I guess, in a way, in freeing: it removes some of the inertia against looking elsewhere.

Exactly what I’ve been thinking lately. That Apple, the cool Apple that made my life better, is gone and it’s not coming back. Something else will have to fill its shoes. I’m gonna start exploring Linux and other stuff

There was more innovation after 2011 than before.

This is not apple related it’s a comment society.

This is where things are going. You can of course abstain.

They have moved forward on plenty, even if you don’t like it.
I paid for the phone so the phone better not have ads. Otherwise, yes, they are charging me for ads.
Ads are coming. You can certainly delete Apple Maps and use Google Maps.

If they show ads for things people are looking for ACCURATELY it might be more acceptable. Searching on a map and getting surrounding restaurants might be helpful for example. But if you give me an ad for Applebees they’ll be hell to pay. I don’t want one pixel in my retina to be subjected to an ad for that crap.

It is, unfortunately the nature of the business model these days. We've talked to our child about it, about the need to recognize when you are being sold to where you are viewing something, and how to limit the ad inputs by adjusting your daily routine and tools used....especially cell phones!

Haven't used this app in years and will continue to not. Was trash not long ago and can't imagine it has gotten much better. Google is the Gold Standard.

If we do that all our lives will get better. It would be a huge social change and it would improve a lot of things
Well I don't know about that. There are some new issues with tech especially for children. But I grew up before computers and the internet and all in all life is way nicer now with this tech. But I'm not sure how life would be during my school years if I actually knew everything everyone else was up to -- for such things ignorance can be bliss.
