Jumping into this thread late, and not reading the whole thread so apologies if I’m repeating what everyone else had said, but putting ads in maps is a bad idea and Apple should feel bad for not rejecting it immediately.

Let’s be honest, the guides already in maps are basically ads. If the experience stays as unobtrusive, I don’t mind it as much. I’m more annoyed they still work with yelp.

Notice how you focused on value and not quality

Of course. Quality is a subjective term. But value can be objectively measured based off results. Either a company makes money or it doesn't. If a company is as valuable as Apple, we can extrapolate from that there is intrinsic value in the products and services that they offer.

Entirely wrong for me in UK.

Google has roads which do not exist - and never have existed.
Google roads are very frequently some distance away from their real locations, often several metres.

Im in the UK and Apple Maps is borderline useless for finding businesses. Smaller local ones usually do not exist on Apple Maps in my experience, when they do then they are frequently in the wrong place. Every single time I have reported the issue with a business and inputted the correct address, nothing happens.

It is better than Google Maps at finding residential addresses in my experience, though. I end up having both installed and use Google to find businesses and Apple for peoples homes.

Guys cut them some slack, innovations like Apple Intelligence cost a lot of money, they need to increase their revenue to support that.

Their marketing people also cost them a lot, certainly more than their engineers!

How do you know Apple is not prioritizing user needs? How could anyone of us know what the billions of users want? (Except maybe if you are Tim Cook)
Because Apple spent the last 15 years marketing itself as “above” selling user data, relying on advertising for revenue, and acting like Google. Apple built a customer base around this. This is a small move but it shows cracks in the armor of the reputation they’re built as being above needing to put ads in Apple Maps, for example.

Can you name something truly useful that Apple Intelligence has brought to the table so far? I turned summaries off. The rest of the features largely don’t exist or aren’t inherently visible to me; I can’t even think of a single useful one. At the same time, I can’t even search my text messages for a name that’s already in my contacts.

Don’t worry, soon you’ll have ads in between your iMessages list between conversations!

I wouldn't mind sponsored listings as much if Apple Maps had up to date, comprehensive and accurate listings for business and other points of interest.

But as it is, their database is sorely lacking. I use Apple Maps as my default for navigation and I use it to keep tabs on saved places -- but I barely trust it at all to explore an area or find restaurants and the like. I find errors in the listings just constantly, and it's been this way for years now. They've made huge strides in so many areas, but their database is crap, out of date, and just baffling.

Most of the time, my workflow is to look places up on Google Maps or maybe Yelp or something, and then use Apple Maps to navigate to it and possibly save it for future use.

So, getting served ads on top of incomplete, out of date, inaccurate results? No thanks.

It's... halfway decent in the US, but if it's a business I don't know, I still have to verify it on Google Maps because Apple Maps has f**ked me over so many times with some dead listing.

Apple, if you want ads in that Apple Maps, you better pay me just to accept those ad.

If you refuse, then Apple Maps become useless.

Literally more than half of the people in this thread complaining about a rumor that Apple Maps might get ads at some point in the future, have themselves admitted that they do not use Apple Maps anyway. So something that might not even happen, has people that don't even use that App, complaining not because it will affect them in anyway, but rather for the sake of just complaining.
This came from the horses mouth Gurman so it's going to happen. It's basically a matter of when at this point!

Not a surprise here. Apple is following Google, Microsoft and Amazon in the Ad business with their proprietary apps. They already have a locked in audience.

Big love to all the people saying “If Apple go through with this I’ll move to Google”, you have given me a chuckle this evening.

I am quite certain that Google - the bastion of ads - will thank you for your protest.

(FWIW I think it’s a deeply unnecessary move, but if Apple get the interface/experience right it’s fine by me)
If you’re gonna force me to eat trash I’d rather eat it from a Michelin Star restaurant (Google Maps) than a Taco Bell (Apple Maps).

I thought my sarcasm came through…..

Apple does not respect your privacy any more than Google does and anyone who says otherwise is either selling you something or grossly misinformed.

Apple is beholden to shareholders and their only goal is to make as much money as possible. There's no such thing as enough money to investors. They always need more and if they run out of ways to make more money they'll sell your data too.
If you don't think so you're just fooling yourself.
