Apple won't care about my opinion, and to be frank-demand probably would tell them to raise the price. They can barely keep up with demand when they launch a new one. They know they will lose some customers but make more money too.

They will lose me. In my house I have 3 iPads, 2 iPhones, 2 iMacs, 3 iMac Minis, and a half dozen iPods in use now and then (3 teenage daughters)
I have a dozen old iMacs and PowerPC clones on shelves in the basement too.
I use 3 apple expresses, an extreme, and a time capsule as well.

I have NEVER owned a PC and bought my first Mac in '87-so I've ponied up some significant bucks, I was also one of those guys that would help customers (volunteer my time) in the corner of a CompUSA store before there were Apple Stores.
Another $100 for the iPhone-i'm not buying one.

Your comment would hold water IF the $100+ was for the 5.5" iPhone however if it's not then no dice champ.

Yes, my comment was based with a 5.5" iPhone in mind. However, if Apple goes with full sapphire screens (manufactured in the U.S. - that adds costs too) then that is justification for higher prices (that and generally higher material quality than competitors). RAM and storage are negligible costs (which is why it is obnoxious that Apple does not put in more in their devices).

In any case, these are all rumors, speculations based on rumors, rumors based on speculations, and so forth. We don't know what Apple really will or will not do.

I think $100 increase for an iPhone killer is kinda cheap, i mean if that ugly lag cheap Samsung S5 costs $824.99...the iPhone killer is soooo cheap!

iPhone Battery is the worst. Minute I use my camera it's dead in less than 2 hours...

Get some help. If you leave it on for two hours in camera mode with autofocus, etc., of course you'll use up a lot of battery. That's a no brainer.

I find it hard to believe they want to increase prices by this much after holding the line as they have.

A product price increase would offset stagnant iTunes sales, but new product category or markets would also do this without forcing consumers to rethink delaying a purchase or considering competitor's competitive products.

My gut says this may be just an attempt by somebody to goose 5s sales before 6 launches.

"Oh my, iPhone prices are going up by 100 bucks Mabel, we fine better but ours now!"

Reisinger? LOL. Samsung's ad budget at work. Do your own research instead of citing a blogging clown who is paid to write a puff piece.

"Don Reisinger is a technology columnist who has covered everything from HDTVs to computers to Flowbee Haircut Systems. Besides his work with CNET, Don's work has been featured in a variety of other publications including PC World and a host of Ziff-Davis publications.
Don Reisinger is a member of the CNET Blog Network and is not an employee of CNET."

It's selling terribly. Worse than the old Note3. Far worse than the G3. Samsung is freaking out at this very moment.

It's human nature samcraig. People want something that everyone can't have or only a few.

I think I understand what the guy and others are saying. Even though Apple made millions of iPhones there was a time when you would see someone on an iPhone and think hey that's an iPhone, now if you don't see someone with an iPhone it's an odd event.

My son likes to wear Nike AirMax, so do I. I buy the ones I like. We were picking him some out and I was like I think these look good and he was like yeah they do but "friend name" has this color. He picks out some odd color to go with.

Not saying it's right or wrong but sometimes people want things that not everyone can have.

I'm having problem with the if they make the base 32GB then not having a problem with it. Isn't the 32GB already $100 more? They're not dumping the base but making you go up a tier. Memory doesn't cost that much. The base should be 32GB @$199 for all platforms.

I think like others have said that maybe the $100 is for the 5"+ screen which is understandable but at the same time Apple did increase the cost of ipad mini retina.

My son has a Nexus 5 and I'm trying to hold out to see what the iPhone6 will be but honestly I'm having a hard time convincing myself money wise that spending and extra $300 is worth it for an iPhone. I don't buy electronics as an investment so reselling isn't on my list as I would just pass it a long to another family member.

It's not human nature. I don't feel the urge to have a product because other people don't.

It's called douche nature.

I find it sad. It's a phone. And for years now, you could buy it at WalMart.

It was fun and "special" for the first 6 or so months (the original iPhone) because people hadn't' seen it (it was very expensive and no subsidy then) and it was fun to play with if you have never seen one before. That lasted about 6 months. Maybe a bit longer. I'm not sure that ever had to do with "luxury" but more novelty.

And since so many have smartphones now (iPhone or other) - it seems a bit "late" to lament.

Apple is not stupid enough to sell their new phone at a base price of $750/$300-subsidized.

Why not? They increased the price of the iPad mini with retina. The price of the iPod 5 went up also if I remember by cutting out the 16GB version.

Yeap, absolutely, you have problems if you live your life with jealousy of what others have.
It's like I would love an Aston Martin and not a Ferrari, but it's because I like Aston Martin and not because I have a Ferrari but can't have an Aston.

Everyone wants something to make them stand out from everyone else. Be it a phone, car, hair, clothes, tats, house.

This rumor is even more interesting in light of the reports that Samsung actually dropped the asking (factory) price for Galaxy S5 by 10%

Should people be surprised that the carriers (those who offer subsidies) are not willing to push iPhone sales?

Think critically. If there is a price increase (and that's a big IF since it is being pushed by the "honest as the day is long" Peter Misek) you'll get something extra worth having for that $100, and a more than satisfactory fallback option if you're not interested. And stop letting your daughters do your makeup.

hope you are being sarcastic.

it isn't the first time someone has posted something similar, and they were actually not joking

Apple Corporate is full of the old concept of "doublethink"

Apple will tell you from one side of the mouth "Buying an iPhone brings you into an exclusive club" while out of the other hand "We want to sell as many possible iPhones to the masses as absolutely possible so that everyone has one!"

it is absolutely quite remarkable (And quite horribly scary) just how susceptible the average Joe (not even talking about uneducated people here, but the average human) is to this sort of thing.

The Samsung S5 was just released Friday last week. It is Monday today. Do you really think he has some sources on how well sales are doing?

I welcome a price increase. I'm an apple fan so I'll buy it no matter what. This will only make the apple fan club a little more exclusive. Good move apple

Why put Apple through the trouble of having to make products then? Just send them your net pay made payable to Apple Inc. every week:

Apple Inc.
1 Infinite Loop
Cupertino, CA 95014

They'll so appreciate the 100% margins they can make on the fan club. Suggest a special sticker or piece of paper showing exclusive membership in this "every nickel I make" club. I bet they would jump all over that and then you can show your sticker or certificate to everyone. And will everyone feel envy!

$100 premium for "the iPhone 6". Don't know what to make of this, but there is no "the iPhone 6". When the iPhone 6 model series comes out, the question will be which of the many configurations of iPhone 6 will require $100 premium.

I can imagine that not all iPhone 6 configurations will be premium priced. It may be that like the iPhone 5S vs 5C, there will be a iPhone 6 Super model that has features so advanced that say Apple would be justified in upping the price $200, but the market will bear only $100 increase.

Apple will also have to gauge the balance of each version of the iPhone 6. Apple misjudged the popularity of the 5S and could not handle the demand. I'm sure the pricing and feature set of the iPhone 6 versions is keeping Cook and company up at night.
