well that's doublestack oled which is something that doesnt exist for purchase as of now,i believe

miniled are fine, but oled with dark mode with help saving a ton of battery.+ltpo with 1hz too

also ,you know, blooming.and even better contrast.

I would be interested to see a real world comparison between LTPO and low refresh vs OLED. It really seems the adjustable refresh rate helps battery life a lot.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 13 Pros have both OLED and low refresh rate.

yeah if u don't hate windows, you have a lot more options at a far cheaper price

I used to not hate Windows. Have used it for almost 30 years. But Microsoft lately seems determined to make damn sure everyone hates it.

So now I'll take what Apple gives me because they still seem to actually care what their users want, even a little.

OLED is no blooming, but prone to burn-in.
Everybody here and their grandmother knows that OLED can cause image retention. (A.K.A Burn in).

The reality is, it doesn’t mean that image retention is instantaneous or it’s always noticeable, it might be to a slight degree, but that’s not a a reason why somebody shouldn’t purchase a MacBook.

Nice to hear two-stack is still planned. Some of the rumors sounded like they were going to be bog standard OLED panels, like you see in current laptops or tablets. Those aren't great when it comes to brightness output. Certainly incapable of HDR in the way Apple managed with their Mini-LED screens.

OLED sucks. The color shift is awful on a small iPhone screen. Can’t imagine it on a big iPad screen. I have dark mode turned on on my iPhone 12 even though I don’t like it. But at least I don’t notice the color shift with it on.

Still way too long hope this is shortened

Already so many nice OLED laptops out

Samsung just put out a 15” inch 240hz OLED laptop display

What happened to Apple being one of the firsts for breakthrough, fresh technology now they are one of the last to catch up

I would hold out for the OLED display if they can develop it as flicker-free, which is apparently on the horizon as a next-generation technology from Samsung…

Where can I get these wallpapers

What a prediction!

Young:

”It appears "increasingly likely" that Apple will launch a new 13-inch MacBook with an OLED display in 2024…
the notebook is expected to be a new MacBook Air, but he said there is a possibility it will have other branding.”
My take on upcoming products. There is a good chance that Apple will introduce new iPads, iPhones, and Macs this year or next… and it is “increasingly likely” Apple will deploy the M2 chip more widely, while at some point moving to M3, and use more advanced OLED screens, too.

I predict we'll see the new chips and new displays in the MacBook Air, and some future iteration of the iPhone, although they could also appear in other models or under other names.

As usual, I reserve the right to revise and extend my remarks at any point in the future, assuming no one will remember what I predicted the last time.

Although I am a display supply analyst with great sources, I will tell you that my crystal ball is often cloudy, so I resort to using Prosser's Magic 8 ball!

P.S. Colorful MacBook Airs in iMac colors and white chases are coming next year! Prosser will be right — eventually! 😎

I swear sometimes I feel the comments section is like listening to rumors my grandparents heard on the radio once and swearing off a product because of it.

Yes OLED can have burn-in...but guess what else has burn in? My 2015 iMac...go figure. It isn't noticeable enough for me to care and unless you purposefully crank your brightness on your OLED and keep the taskbar locked with the same background and icons without letting your screen turn off...you won't notice it either. You'd have to go out of your way in most cases to cause this. Every phone I've owned since 2013 has had an OLED screen. They have had time to figure this stuff out.

And longevity? By the time you could actually notice the change, your computer would be well in time for a replacement anyway.

I wondered the other day who that outdated M2 MacBook Pro was for. Reading this comments section makes me understand more clearly 😄
Surprised y'all not worried about burn in on that touch bar.

From what little I know of OLED, it sounds like the wrong decision. Burn-in, color shifting ... no thanks. I'd rather use conventional LCD panels.

Apple can't release any new screen technology, they're running out of superlatives to describe them, in 10 years time we'll have the SuperNano ProQuantuum Liquid Gascious Retina MegaMicron ProMotion Magic Screen as "today, Apple reinvents the display"... just a guess.

I mean how many years does Apple need to release OLED notebooks? Samsung and LG has been doing this for years...

and then I think MiniLED notebooks are fine enough. It's not like any professional will be doing heavy lifting of perfecting colors on notebook screen anyway...

Making notebook lighter would be my preference. I know it's difficult to make notebooks as rock solid as MacBooks without compromising some on weights, but there must be ways nonetheless...
I think volume and yield might be an issue. I mean it took a while to have enough volume to have OLED on the iPhone. MacBook requires larger screen and that might have yield issues. Note that those OLED laptops are not selling in volume, not at the level of MacBook Air.

They can still do Retina Pro, Retina Ultra, and Retina Max. Plenty of words to use. :D

I mean, how many times does your Mac sit with the same image on the display? It's not often as displays usually turn off after a minute or so.
All the time? Like seriously. I don’t want OLED for that exact reason. I really don’t want to be worrying about burn in on my computer. Yes it looks great, but I don’t want OLED on my laptop.

So many rumours recently regarding MacBook lineup and iPad Pro lineup. If the 13” Air gets OLED, wonder what will happen to the rumoured 15” Air.

A 13.6” Air with an OLED display would be an incredible value proposition.
