Apple could charge extra for a macOS mode on the iPad Pro. This way, those that really want it can pay for it and leave the rest of us free to enjoy iPadOS. (Curious how many of those loudly screaming for macOS on iPad would actually pony of the cash for it.)
Exactly. iPadOS in its current state with Stage Manager + More Space is fantastic. It's finally where I want it to be and I use it more than my MacBook Pro. Just need to port Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro onto it.

At that size, they might as well create a Macbook "Ultra" where the screen can either be opened and locked to standard laptop position or rotated 180 degrees and flipped back down to use as a 16" tablet with Apple Pencil (or mouse).

Throw in an M3 Max or an M3 Ultra, give it a smudge proof OLED screen and you'd have the ultimate artist laptop! I'd definitely buy one.
People would claim it copied the Microsoft SurfaceBook at that point, which is a fantastic computer... but I'm pretty sure Apple doesn't want to be seen as the copy.

Meh macOS isn't needed anymore on something like this. Just put the pro apps on iPadOS. Slapping macOS onto an iPad won't be as fluid as you think. Wouldn't mind a dual booting option though if it came to that though.
If they added:
  • Sideloading
  • Apple Music management for non Apple Music songs
  • Ability to restore the OS from the cloud instead of connecting to a PC or Mac (most importantly)
… Then I’d agree. Otherwise, I’m forced to do things on other platforms, simply because Apple doesn’t allow it.

Whatever happened to cloud restore? Wasn’t that seen hinted in betas like 2 years ago?

That makes sense since the 11" never got mini-led
They go with the 14 and 16" for the ipad pro same as the MBP..so no more different display sizes for Apple to build and pay

That’s all I want, is the option to use macOS on a tablet. Keep iPadOS available for those that want it. Otherwise the iPad is nothing more to me than a gigantic iPhone that costs more than a computer. There are times where I need the big screen without the keyboard and trackpad, but I refuse to pay for an entire separate device for those occasional needs.

Precisely this. It’s not just about how capable the hardware, it’s also about the user interface and touch targets. Apple would have to invest quite a bit of money and time (to make this work up to their high standards) for a niche group of users.

If true, it'll be the cheapest XDR display ever.

I've been thinking of getting a 13" air with a 12" IPP as an external monitor instead of a 16" MBP, since I carry my current iPad around with me anyway. The 16 would be a sort of step up.

Too large to take on a plane? Here’s a 2014 20” Nabi tablet with stand. There are even 24” ones out there. 16” is a bit past being hand held. For education, architects, artists, photographers.

Imagine Phil Schiller introducing this thing:

It's a breakthrough in engineering. It's 16 inches accross. It's 3456 pixels by 2234. Some of you are really smart out there and have already done the math. That's 7720704 pixels. That's the world's highest-resolution tablet display!
I miss Phil Schiller. I wish Apple would just include him to introduce new Apple Products. Now we're stuck seeing arrogant/unpleasant Joz and some random Apple Execs.
