Bose did nothing but sign an exclusive deal with the NFL. The NFL made it clear that wearing Beats is a violation of the CBA and it was the NFL's decision to enforce it just like every single other exclusive deal they have.

By your logic....

So I guess if Apple goes to the DOJ and asks that Samsung phones be banned from entering the country, it's not Apple to blame. It's the DOJ to blame if they enforce it. Ok.

Not trying to spark WW3 here... But I've always wondered: why do so many here think Bose is crap?

Because some people are elitist and hate whatever's popular. Then there's another group of authentic audiophiles who have super-sensitive ears that can pick up on sounds and audio qualities that us regular folk can't. So they go for the higher-end audio equipment and brands that are more meticulous about high fidelity sound.

As someone who doesn't have the ears of an audiophile, Bose does the job for me, and I make no apologies for that.

No Loss

Bose build the brand on a mystic that it was something magical, just like Monster Cable did with their obscenely overpriced cables. Most Bose products are junk, and I think consumers have discovered that.

I personally like Bose and feel no problem despairing from Apple store. Bose played important roll for Apple reminding customers that iPhone was born out from iPod. Those who do not care about sound quality may have been surprised by trying Bose headphones.
It is just time to say good-by.

wait so you think bose pays tens of millions of $ per year to be the the "official sound of the nfl" to have players not use bose?

but you seem privy to a lot of inside details on the deal.

If players already had contracts with Beats then Bose or the NFL should have been forced to pay off those contracts or allow those players to wear beats under the terms of their contracts

Overpriced junk shouldn't be sold in Apple Stores regardless of what you think of Beats...

So...this "overpriced junk" is what has kept Bose in business (and very profitable I might add) for over 50 years. Not to mention Bose is a household name with massive brand recognition/appeal. And let's not forget that Bose owns the market for speakers in commercial/retail establishments like restaurants, retail stores, and offices.

Thanks for the broad generalization and OPINION with 0 details or insightful information to defend your claim. A great laugh all around.

I can imagine Tim Cook seeing the fine and saying "$&@@ that $&@!!" In reaction to the NFL fining Kaepernick. Then he removes a $10,000 dollar bill from his wallet to pay for the fine. "give this to kap. we got him". Then he slowly turns his head to eventually look out the window and says "remove all Bose products from our stores."

You can get Bose at Bose stores. You can get it at Best Buy. You can get Bose from Amazon. There's nothing special about buying Bose from an Apple store.

Apple has only so much shelf space, and if they choose to focus on using it to show more Apple products, there is nothing anti-consumer, anti-choice or anti-competitive. It's pro-Apple. Does Bose sell Beats at the Bose store?

removing a popular brand from your shelves is as anti choice as it gets.

beats was already quite prominent in the apple stores but you are just speculating here on the reason.

And what Bose and the NFL is doing is ok with you?

I'd wager that this has everything to do with the NFL ruling/deal with Bose and the asinine new "rule" of not being allowed to wear your endorsement deal products off the field in front of cameras.

A $10k fine, seriously? I know it's within the NFL's rights but this is pure greed, just as greedy as asking half time show performers to cough up money to work... yeah Paul McCartney really needs the exposure.

The NFL is becoming as corrupt as FIFA and the Olympic committee.

It completely normal and common for major sponsors of events - sports or otherwise (conferences, etc) to prohibit the promotion, branding or visualization of competing brands. It's part of the exclusivity that they are paying for when they sponsor the event.

Without corporate sponsorships, sports would crumble - and many other events/conferences would never happen.

They carry other high end audio brands (regardless of bose being overpriced). I cannot imagine they sell a lot of bose products anyways. If they are removing bose, they should just remove all of the others for the reason you said. They are now in the audio business.

I disagree. They offer competing software and accessories even when they have versions of their own. These companies don't start marketing campaigns attacking apple brands. The NFL ban to fine players for being seen with Beats headphones qualifies to me.

:apple: is becoming so huge and arrogant, that it actually starts to remind me Microsoft before its troubles started.
Just imho, of course.

Arrogance? I'm guessing you didn't know about Bose suing Apple for patent infringement after they purchased Beats? Talk about biting the hand that feeds you. Bose's sales took off after Apple introduced the iPod and starting selling their stuff in Apple stores.

This "article" failed to mention it cos that's just the nature of shoddy "journalism" these days, whether it be a blog or NY Times.

I have used a lot of what I would consider "junk" headphones and speakers and Bose is absolutely in no way junk. They may cost more than I would like but that hardly makes them junk. Overall Bose makes fantastic products. The best? No. But not junk by any stretch.

sorry but now you are going into something neither of us have any knowledge of (the details of both sponsor and player contracts)

but with the corporate nature of these leagues i very much doubt that its not the leagues interest above the players every single time.

also i dont believe anyone is banning beats contracted players from wearing them outside of nfl activities.

Whilst I’d never buy Beats or Bose, this is an embarrassingly anti-consumer, anti-choice move.

Their store, they can sell what they want. Next I'll be hearing I can't believe the Apple Store doesn't sell Samsung Galaxy devices, so anti choice. And why isn't it the same thing? Apple now owns beats, and to show they are serious about ownership, the Beats app is under the category "Made by Apple" in the App Store.

Not every store carries every product available in every category they sell, either by choice or lack of shelf space.

But what about players who already had legal contracts with other companies?

"either Bose or Apple may have decided to end their retail relationship."

But here, Apple is automatically the root of all evil, no actual facts required :)

The very definition of knee-jerk reaction. People have totally swallowed the ad-bait media narrative about Evil Apple.

I don't even remember the last time I bought something in an Apple store.

I do buy Bose however and anything I've had from them was excellent quality.
There is a Bose store 5 minutes from my house. So far they have been fabulous to do business with.

both brands are overpriced, but I would much rather buy Bose than Beats.

Frankly I find what Apple is doing here is anti-competitive. but hey, I don't buy accessories from Apple store anyway, so it doesn't bother me.

I know, exactly. Can't believe I can't buy Dell or HP computers in the Apple store either! WTF is that all about? Talk about anti-competitive...

I hate it when companies involve customers in their corporate politics. If Beats products are being banned by the NFL, that's Apple's problem, not mine. It seems a little petty to ban them when Apple stores already sell third-party accessories that compete with Apple's own accessories.

The problem with your analogy is that Apple has sold Bose gear for over a decade. They never sold Samsung gear and then stopped. I think what Apple is doing is fine. It's their store they can sell whatever they want but it's not the same as not selling android or windows gear because those were never sold there in the first place.

Not trying to spark WW3 here... But I've always wondered: why do so many here think Bose is crap?

I have the sound dock and Quiet Comfort 15 Headphones: they are both FANTASTIC.

I'm not a "professional" listener by any means, but I use them 2/3 hours per day and never have had any problems with them!

On the other hand, I find Beats to be more of a fashion device. Sound quality is meh and the noise cancellation doesn't even come close to Bose's products!

Well, if you ran some Hifiman, Audio Technica, B&W, Sennheisers, Audeze, Grado, Shure, Beyer Dynamic, Denon and other top performing brands then you would know. Bose comes with a lot of marketing that people buy into.

I run Hifiman for critical listening and then turn to Beats when I'm in the mood of wanting to be a bass head in listening to Hip/Hop, Electronica and Dub Step.

It *looks* as though it's a knee-jerk reaction to the Bose/NFL partnership. Assuming that it's not – given that said partnership was signed ten weeks before the Beats acquisition – and that Apple have been planning the removal of Bose products for some time, you'd think that they would put back the date in order to make it look less petty.

I can understand that Apple might want to free up some space for their shiny new watches, but space can't be a consideration at the majority of Apple Stores.

That said, it's a wholly unsubstantiated article, and it doesn't even state which party is supposedly pulling the plug.
