I don't see why it matters. Bose are for people who want to buy a brand name that has the audio quality of a much cheaper product. Beats are for people who want to look cool while having the audio quality of a much cheaper product. Not much difference. Anybody that cares about sound quality will look elsewhere.

But what about players who already had legal contracts with other companies?

Well why don't you illustrate a case where this has happened and then we can discuss it.

Otherwise, it's seems a bit "sky is falling" to me.

Only my opinion, but I wouldn't say Bose is crap ... just overpriced (and they do have best in class technology when it comes to noise cancelling which could justify the premium for some).

Beats ... yes I would say crap :-D

I agree. I love Bose equipment and their noise canceling headphones are awesome!! I had doubts until I tried them.. unreal.

I tried on the Beats Studio headphones at the Apple Store for the first time yesterday, as soon as I put it on all the outside noise ceased to exist and it was just me and the music. The bass was very apparent but not too much, just the appropriate about of bass for the song I was listening to. The rest was very crystal clear. I haven't tried any other beats headphones but those studio headphones blew me away. Apple can do what they want, it's their store. Whether it was because of the Bose nfl deal or not that they removed their products, it doesn't matter. It was going to happen sooner or later. They're currently restructuring the beats business so it's to be expected.

Bose's sales took off after Apple introduced the iPod and starting selling their stuff in Apple stores...

I enhanced your quote. Care to provide proof that Bose's sales took off only because Bose products were being sold in Apple stores?

I highly, highly doubt it. Sure, there are plenty of people that walked into an Apple store and bought a Bose accessory. More likely, however, is that people bought the Bose accessories via non-Apple stores since Bose can be bought almost anywhere...while Apple stores are quite hard to come by. Not to mention you can buy Bose slightly cheaper from time to time at a normal retailer like Amazon or Best Buy versus Apple Store's full retail price.

Because some people are elitist and hate whatever's popular. Then there's another group of authentic audiophiles who have super-sensitive ears that can pick up on sounds and audio qualities that us regular folk can't. So they go for the higher-end audio equipment and brands that are more meticulous about high fidelity sound.

As someone who doesn't have the ears of an audiophile, Bose does the job for me, and I make no apologies for that.

Wanting to get value for your money is most definitely not "elitist."

I have actually never owned either a bose or a beats product. But it makes all the sense hat now that Apple owns beats that they only sell those products in their stores. They don't sell samesong either.

Seriously? The case that is all over the news this week. Kaepernick wore pink beats as part of his contract with beats. The NFL fined him $10,000 due to their newer Bose contract. Shouldn't they have to respect his prior contract or at least buy him out of it if they won't allow him to follow through with it. There's no sky is falling mentality here. Beats has contracts with several NFL players.

So...this "overpriced junk" is what has kept Bose in business (and very profitable I might add) for over 50 years. Not to mention Bose is a household name with massive brand recognition/appeal. And let's not forget that Bose owns the market for speakers in commercial/retail establishments like restaurants, retail stores, and offices.

Thanks for the broad generalization and OPINION with 0 details or insightful information to defend your claim. A great laugh all around.

old people and TV infomercials

Beats is no different, just different marketing. my wife used to have some in ear beats headphones and then gave them to me. i used them and they weren't as good as the bundled apple headphones they started packaging with the iphone 5

Their store, they can sell what they want. Next I'll be hearing I can't believe the Apple Store doesn't sell Samsung Galaxy devices, so anti choice. And why isn't it the same thing? Apple now owns beats, and to show they are serious about ownership, the Beats app is under the category "Made by Apple" in the App Store.

Not every store carries every product available in every category they sell, either by choice or lack of shelf space.

Hmmm....any of these sold in their stores?

Or these?

Frankly I find what Apple is doing here is anti-competitive.

Please elaborate.
Apple Store doesn't carry the Samsung Note, does that make Apple 'anitcompetative'?
A Honda dealership doesn't carry Toyota, does that make Honda 'anticompetitive'?

Sports have always done this. The NFL having Gateorade be their official drink at their events, to reebok, now Nike being the official shoes (cleats) and jerseys that is worn. The same with the NBA, and the NFL and even Soccer I believe. You aren't allowed to wear another companies product when one company has an exclusive deal with a sports organization. It's been going on for over 30 years. The only reason you guys know and or care about it now is because apple is involved now. Where was your outrage when guys wanted to drink something other than gatorade? The NBA and NFL has fined players for wearing shoes that aren't part of the exclusive deal they have with said company. You guys are stupid as #@$# sometimes.

Is it possible this was Bose idea? Do we have any thing that would substantiate Apple pulled the plug?

It could have been a mutual agreement as well......

This.

And personally I've found most of the well priced headphones I've used just fine. They offer different things for different people. I've got a pair of Bose headphones and they are GREAT for listening to music. The clearest things I've ever used all around.

I've got a pair of Sennheisers I use for post production. I've used Sony's for field audio work. I've used AKG and M-Audio's for audio post production.

Each one sounds different, depending on what I am using them for, and are marketed differently for just such a reason.

Now, I've tried Beats, and with the heavy metal, hip-hop, and rock music I listen to they are actually quite nice. Sennheiser is even trying to get into that market with a different pair of headphones built for that demographic.

If we believed all of the Negative Nancy's then why wouldn't Sennheiser just tell us to pick up a pair of HD558s?

In the NFL environment (games, press conferences, warm-ups, etc...), the NFL's contracts will supersede any player contract wrt branding. It's in the CBA.

Even Bluetooth Headsets?

Bose makes a great bluetooth headset primarily used for talking on a smartphone. Bought mine from an Apple retail store. Does Beats make a competing product? Would hate to see Apple remove these valuable products from their shelves when there's no Beats product in the same category.

Bose is great

I love my Bose home theater speakers, which I've had for nearly 20 years. Some say it's overpriced, but I can't think of a single other piece of electronics that I've had for even half as long.

This is all about catty vindictiveness by Tim Cook's Apple. They're not removing ALL competitor headphones and speakers from Apple stores, just Bose. Gee, wonder why....maybe the licensing deal with the NFL?

Who's being catty, exactly? Is Tim Cook signing deals with the NFL that fines players $10,000 every time they wear Bose, or look at a Samsung phone?

This is a natural response that any company has a right to do when a vendor is restricting people from even displaying their products in a venue. No person running a business should just sit there and take the reaming.

Well guess what, Tim. That's how merchandise sponsorship works in the world of sports. It happens all the time. Shoes, kits, hats, beverages, etc. Exclusivity is a part of the deal.

So if Apple EVER signs a deal that bans players from using Samsung phones and Windows mobile devices, going so far as to fine players $10,000 per occurrence, I fully expect you to support that move. To the point where you should be wondering why Microsoft and Samsung don't have their sales reps cheerfully and enthusiastically selling iPhones, iPads and Macs in their stores.

This has to be about the NFL deal.

Apple Stores (both retail and online) carry other headphones and music docking stations. B&W is an example. I was recently in an Apple Store and they had both the B&W Zeppelin Air and P5 headphones on the shelf.

And for those who wonder why Bose is attacked so much, it is basically because of the sound quality. They do not produce a true sound. While it may sound like a violin while you listen to it, you may not hear the pure sound. So what is "pure" sound. This is in minute details of the sound. Maybe hearing the breathe of a singer while singing, the reverberation of guitar strings, or maybe the "screech" of the violin bow.

Keep in mind that Bose was once a great speaker company. Their 901s were considered to be excellent and are still in high demand for people putting together a 2-channel analog listening environment.

I also know that some people don't notice or care about these details. However, those who do sometimes complain of fatigue when listening to low quality records for a long period of time.

The other thing about Bose is marketing. Bose has found a way to market to those who want the appearance of high-end (because they paid a lot) because they equate expensive to high quality. But they do not get the quality of sound others can offer. Think about how many high-end hi-fi shops carry Bose. Its not because the other companies are scared they will lose business. And yes, I have heard people say this is the same tactic that Apple uses. but I personally do not feel they put out substandard products at high price points.

BTW, I happen to own two pairs of Bose entry level on the ear headphones. My other equipment is B&W for my media room and high-end Denon over the ear headphones.

WOW! This was a long post.

That isn't the way the league endorsement rules work. Just like socks, hats, shirts or anything else, the league gets a crap load of money from certain companies to endorse their products and players have been fined for years for wearing or using other companies products. Kaepernick can endorse Beats all he wants - just not right before and after the games. And he really should keep quiet because if it comes out that Beats paid his fine, that is blatant violation of the NFL CBA rules and he could get in trouble for that.

Overpriced junk shouldn't be sold in Apple Stores regardless of what you think of Beats.

Beats are ok...but very overpriced.

You can do much much better for your dollar.

I'd argue that Bose is better in sound and quality then Beats.... though I'm not a Bose fan either.

I'm not familiar with the CBA but I'll look into that, thanks.

I can imagine Tim Cook seeing the fine and saying "$&@@ that $&@!!" In reaction to the NFL fining Kaepernick. Then he removes a $10,000 dollar bill from his wallet to pay for the fine. "give this to kap. we got him". Then he slowly turns his head to eventually look out the window and says "remove all Bose products from our stores."

Fun Facts:

The highest current denomination is the $100 bill. The highest bill ever printed, however, was a $100,000 note that was printed from December 18, 1934 to January 9, 1935. It was used for transactions between Federal Reserve Banks. President Woodrow Wilson was pictured on the front.

I think Bose fired the first shot, with the NFL debacle. It's unfortunate because Bose makes some decent stuff. Certainly not the best, but definitely better than the beats crap.

I can't co-sign on that. Bose sound wise is not better than Beats sound wise. I've compared the two on more than one occasion.

I even ended up buying the Bose speakers because I liked their version of in ear headphones better NOT because they sounded better than Beats. I had to sacrifice having nice sounding base with the music I listen to in order to use Bose headphones.

I had Bose for not even 6 months before they crapped out on me back in September and I ended up having to go back to my Apple Headphones. Once that happened I decided never to go back. Instead I will give Beats a shot the next time I buy $150+ headphones.

These are the headphones I ended up purchasing===> Bose

-------

Bose kind of did this to themselves because of the NFL thing. No one buys headphones at football stadiums.
