You know, everyone is so quick to put the blame on Apple. How do we know Bose isn't the one yanking their products out of Apple's stores?

both brands are overpriced, but I would much rather buy Bose than Beats.

Frankly I find what Apple is doing here is anti-competitive. but hey, I don't buy accessories from Apple store anyway, so it doesn't bother me.

Not sure how it's anti-competitive. Apple is removing a brand from its store. Is Aldi's anti-competitive because it mostly carries it's own branded products? What about department stores that increasingly carry more private store labels than designer? How about Sony stores only selling Sony products?

Does pulling Bose products from Apple stores have a material affect on Bose? Unlikely, especially since Bose has its own stores in many of the malls Apple is in. So please explain how this move is anticompetitive.

I know this is a thread about Apple removing Bose products from its stores... but the 10K fine thing AND the deal the NFL made with Bose still blows my mind.

Does the Nike deal with the NFL blow your mind? Or the million other endorsements the NFL has blow your mind? I find it funny people here are up in arms like this is something new. The "OMG how can they do that" posts are hilarious when the NFL has been doing this for years. And the players AGREED to it which makes these posts even funnier.

You and I both know that there are people out there that hate anything that becomes popular. Those are the ones I was referring to.

You talked as if there are two types of people that criticize Bose, 1) elitists and 2) audiophiles.

There is a third, very large contingent whose decision making is much more pragmatic.

Overpriced junk shouldn't be sold in Apple Stores regardless of what you think of Beats.

Beats are ok...but very overpriced.

You can do much much better for your dollar.

Actually, there are no brands that make noise canceling headphones that work and sound as nicely as BOSE. Everything else, yeah, you could probably find better products by other brands.

I don't care what they sell or don't sell I wish Apple would just fix their MacBook to anyone's speakers link. I have a Bluetooth speaker that works perfectly with an ol' iPod touch, iPad 2, and iPad Air, but has all kinds of clicks and pops when used with a MacBook (two different ones).

What he received in compensation will outweigh the fine or he may have received a "bonus." Anyway, saying he's wearing it for breast cancer awareness is pretty low class when it's obviously for a pay day.

Read up on the NFL's breast cancer awareness campaign. The NFL is raking in billions from this campaign. While it is raising awareness which is great, companies like Beats (now Apple) are benefiting from it hugely. It is not truly some altruistic gesture for sure.

I believe the CBA does not allow teams to pay player's fines (for obvious reasons), but why would it not allow a third-party?

The NFL can't regulate third parties in a player-to-third party contract.

In many cases in the past, when a player is fined, the sponsor gives the player a 'bonus' equal to the fine. Then the player pays the fine themselves. It's happened dozens of times in the past.

I'll take Sol Republic over Beats/Bose any day. Great quality and much more fairly priced.

I have a set of Sol's. They are okay. Nice bass response and highs. They don't stay in my ears though, so they are in-home listening only.

Cost too much anyway. Plus seems like this NFL ban for players killed beats advertising and they are still on the hook for all the contracts they have with NFL players.

Beats is still advertising. Players just can't wear them before, during, or 90 minutes after game if doing interviews. Beats can still run an ad during the game or anytime they want.

That's true for all of the NFL's "Awareness" campaign and their contribution (in the past) of 5% of all PROFITS from the sale of related goods.

Exactly, why would it be a violation of the CBA? The 49ers aren't paying that fine.

These seems very childish and anti-competitive by Apple. The real loser here is the consumer who has lost some choice and is being funnelled sheep like towards those products Apple deigns to sanction. The Apple fanboys here will doubtless herald this as a brilliant move by Apple, because it allows them to fill Apple's pockets with more of their money.

Not selling products from a competitor in your own stores is hardly anticompetitive. I don't expect to be able to buy a brand new Chevy at a Dodge dealership, nor an iPad at a Microsoft store, nor should I.

If Microsoft carried the iPad they would actually get people to come into their store.

I wonder if they are still going to sell Bowers in store. They are the only headphones I ever listen to while there.

The players is contracted by the NFL the same way an apple employee is contracted with apple. If in the contract (which all NFL contracts have in them because of the collective bargaining agreement), stipulates that an employee may not wear equpitment that their employer has exclusive rights agreement with another company. That employee (in this case NFL player), may not wear at NFL events.

It all goes back to Apple buying Beats. Nothing about that deal is really good for us consumers. While removing Bose is not illegal or wrong, stifling their own partners is really not a good road for Apple to go down. At some point, this may do more harm than good for the Apple ecosystem.

lol...

Where does it state in the article why this is being done?

Where does it state in the article if Bose or Apple made the choice?

Hint, it doesn't. Continue making assumptions without facts.

You know what is childish? Using the word "sheep" and "fanboy" to describe users of a product.

Since Apple stores have the highest foot traffic in retail, that would be sheer stupidity.

Which one's better, Bose or Beats?

I don't think it's childish because if this wasn't an apple product people wouldn't be up in arms about it. These kind of deals have been going on in all major sports leagues in the U.S for years.
Are we really going to pretend we don't know why this is being done? That in itself is childish.

And telling employees that they can't use their equipment of choice is equally "anti-choice". By your logic, New Orleans Saints players should not be allowed to drive anything but Mercedes-Benz, because they play their home games at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, or Dallas Cowboys players can't have anything but AT&T phone plans, because they play their home games at AT&T stadium???

The NFLPA endorsed/agreed to the current CBA that contains language about FOOTBALL equipment because it has to do with the code of uniformity and safety, but says nothing about deals the NFL has made for NFL-specific Operations. And yes, I'm privy and I own Bose equipment and don't ever plan on owning anything Beats...

im actually quite happy you brought that up since in my first post i said the following

as ridiculous as i find that contract and all other invasive advertisement deals with sporting clubs.

so while i appreciate your comments i am no fan of these types of deals and i do agree with you.

i think the only loser here is the consumer whether its losing a popular product from apple and possibly having bose pass the nfl deal on to their product prices.

But what about players who already had legal contracts with other companies?

So what? The point is I don’t care what contract you have or with whom, the terms do not apply on my property………if I read the situation right.

old people and TV infomercials...

I have never seen Bose on an infomercial...only print commercials (magazines). I wouldn't consider myself an old person since I am in my early 40s but have been using the Bose noise-cancelling headphones for the past 8+ years. I think they are great for noise cancelling and excellent (not perfect) for sound quality (never used them on an idevice but often in my home stereo and computer audio card output).

Back 8+ years ago when Bose was the only noise-cancelling brand you could buy, hey, Bose owned the market. Now that other companies have joined the noise cancelling market, why would I dump these great sounding headphones ($299 at the time) for something that is still gonna cost me $199+ now?

Bose is not cheap...you're not going to see 14 year old kids with Bose products. Folks that exit college and actually have a job, money, and PREFER better sounding equipment than the average stuff you find for 1/2 the price of a Bose product will buy Bose if given the chance. Bose also offers a great trial period. There's really no risk or excuse for someone to try a Bose product regardless of where they purchase it.

Again, I'm not claiming Bose has the best sounding quality on the market. I've never been a fan of their home speakers...but their around the ear noise cancelling headphones, for the money, rock. Not to mention that mine have lasted 8+ years of regular use. Their clock radios (again pricey) are actually quite nice (simple to use, look nice, sound nice, easily fill a room) compared to other systems costing similar prices. Bose really drove the table radio market in the early 90s...as well as the noise cancelling market in the mid 2000s...and it clearly drove the portable idevice market with their SoundDock series that everyone copied.

If Apple EVER signs a deal that fines its own employees $10,000 for being filmed on national TV

Only that's not what Bose did. In fact, I would bet that Bose employees have greater freedom as to what brand of headphones they use than NFL players do, at this point.

Huh? Thats your opinion. People buying Apple products clearly don't agree with you. Scalpers waiting in line for hours for Apple products also don't agree with you. Let me know when people start scalping competitor products.

You think its overpriced for your needs and that is fine. However, you have no right to tell people what they should be thinking and to trash the people personally who make Apple products. Lets face it everyone has things that others think are overpriced or not suitable for their needs. No need to disparage the people who make Apple products and the people who buy Apple products.
