Didn't the CEO of Samsung say that very think about the Note 9? And isn't it the best selling phone ever?
These CEOs are quite the head cheerleaders. Rah rah! They need to do jumps and back flips at the next product announcements.

I'm in the same boat.

Me too. I've been exclusive to the Apple ecosystem since the Mac Plus back in the 80s. A week ago I bought a Pixelbook. (Yes, I'm very happy with it!)

I'm seeing more and more of these stories online and among friends - long time users of Apple leaving. Maybe it matters, maybe it doesn't - but one thing, I think, is undeniable - Apple has lost many of the long-term users that sustained it for so long. In the days before the iPhone, the old joke that Apple was about to go out of business never came true because of those users - and it no longer has them. It may not matter, though I suspect it will.

Those users - the writers, the filmmakers, the musicians, the coders - created that halo effect that, at a basic level, no longer exists for Apple. Sure - it still exists in the marketing and the "brand awareness", but underneath all that, it's gone.

I suspect the best analogy is that Apple has gentrified. The creators moved in, made the tiny company cool - and then the marketing people moved in and the creators got priced out and it's no longer actually the cool place to live - though of course the marketing people still say it is - but in reality all the places that made it what it was have shut down and the creators have moved on.

I'm still partially in the Apple ecosystem, but I'm slowly moving out. Maybe I'll visit in a few years and find my favorite donut store has turned into a Starbucks.

So much dramatism around here It is not hard and no need to make it harder. If money is an issue it isnt worth buying, losing sleep, or getting sick over. Bunch of buzzkillians.
Man, I love being old, not tied to any smartphone or computer brand, don't feel the need to be available at all times, if I answer I answer if not I'll get back to you at my convenience.
I walkout my door and hike up a 13,000ft peak with the dogs and never once think about social media, answering a text or call or even look at it, unless it is an 911 situation . Just the view and my thoughts. Heck the dogs double as pillows as well as guards.

Why do you think this drama is?
Its not because we all hate apple, its because we all Love Apple for years and years now,
they have bin selling us the best products in the world for years.... but now days
Chinese knock offs feel more reliable. When your best friend in the world is trying to sell you overpriced junk. stuff that over heats or breaks because a spec of dust came in. and you cant service the machine your self but charges you the price of almost a new machine to fix it for you.. FIX is a strong word . you stop seeing your friend as a friend and more as a sales repp after a quick buck . Nothing changes if you sit on your old @$$ and nothing ..( that not true but you get the point , enough bad reputation will change even APPLE.

Apple doesn’t operate on market share. It captures 80% of the profits (or thereabouts)in the mobile phone sector.

Google makes out on market share because it gets paid by the unit for android.

Apple absolutely cares about marketshare when it comes to iOS, because there's a point at which developers will stop developing for your platform if you become irrelevant in the big picture.

The screen is the component that has to be good enough. This, in my opinion, and that, in your opinion. It has to be good enough and the XRs' screen is at that price. It's nearly equivalent to OLED and has the vaunted apple accuracy.

The XR out techs the 8 plus and in 2018 the price is the price.
What about the 7 plus.... its has a better screen more PPI and touch ID.. all my bank apps work with touch noting works with face ID

Big screen TV’s used to command big prices and drive big profits/sales at places like Circuit City. Now you can get a good TV for a great price from Amazon. The former Circuit City near my house is now a secondhand clothing store.

Clearly this is why Apple is trying to become Netflix. And sell more services.

This is the first time that I am questioning holding the stock. They can only sell services to existing customers. And their Appleflix feels sketchy given their decision to avoid “adult” content (House of Cards and Game of Thrones anyone! Uh, not.)

Hope I’m wrong! I am a stockholder.

I still bought a bit today in the crash but I do see your point on the adult content thing. Without adult content they have no chance of being Netflix. They would be trying to become Walt Disney at that point.

I think it would be crazy to sell off before February earnings. It may go up it may go down at the call but at least some honest numbers will be injected into the stock either way. Without knowing when you bought or what you hold it's hard to say. Everybody is at different points and has different goals.

I wouldn't sell right now though. It's a train wreck today. :)

buying back Iphones does not create market share it reduces it! normaly you would sell your iphone or give it to your kids so in theory you can increase it , but If you want more market share sell your product cheaper. Iphones cost 120-300 bucks to make the rest is profit, take less profit increase your market share ... you earn it back on the servicesright apple :p
Apple in October it was a trillion dollar company now 2 moths later investors have lost 1/4 of a trillion dollars. stock price was 232 now its 177

Apple trying to make fake lower prices marketing (since it is a trade in).

It seems Apple is feeling the consequences of extreme price gauging, and overpriced products (not just iphones).

The gauging comes too at extreme overprice of internal storage.
Look at the new Mac Mini. If you want to upgrade the SSD the prices are beyond ridiculous.
Same with Macbook Air. Same with iPhones.

iOS is losing marketshare globally and that's simply because more people are choosing Android over iOS devices.
https://www.statista.com/statistics/266136/global-market-share-held-by-smartphone-operating-systems/

That is mainly because Apple isn't competitive at all in markets that are price sensitive. Cant crack India because the phones are too expensive and China are choosing their own brands because they are better value.

Apples response = make more expensive phones.

Maybe the large size of the iphone XR has something to do with it? I wanted a new phone, but didn't want to pay 999 dollars for it and the XR is too big for me. Hence I got an iphone X from last year...
My girlfriend had difficulties understanding why the cheaper model is the bigger phone and I agree.

Me as well... Apple strategy seems to be off this iPhone cycle.

They got me with the $300 trade in for my 7+. Before that I was planning to wait another year. Enjoying the Xs so far.

I’m still on my X because it’s not worth paying another $1300+ for XS.

If they would keep the prices around $800 I’d upgrade every year like I have been doing.

That's me as well. When my iPhone X went hundreds over $1K with sales tax and AppleCare, I decided right then I wouldn't upgrade for two years. And if Apple continues raising the prices on these phones instead of following their time-honored business model of holding the price line while providing more features on subsequent non-major-year upgrades, I'll hang on to my iPhone X for three years.

There has been more than enough said on this over the course of time, to proffer that apple really doesn't care about market share. Now if your suggesting that if in the future apples market share may dwindle to zero and make it irrelevant, sure. But a few points here and there mean nothing.

The counter is that does market share really help android other than google. Do people pay more for apps on the google play store? Are they better quality? Which platform will customers most likely spend on first? Which platform will customers most likely spend more on first?

Apple becoming irrelevant is just more of the "apple is doomed" meme, which has been around as long as I have been following it. Not gonna happen. (I mean it could happen, but the loch ness monster or big foot could also be found)

I’m replacing my Pixel XL work phone with either a Note 9 or S9+ probably early next year, can’t wait! As for my iPhone 7 Plus, maybe I’ll get an 8 Plus or see what next year’s offerings are, I didn’t want to go both Android since I like having both OSes, but Apple is really making it hard to remain interested in iPhones.
Yea, note 9 is a very eye catchy and beautiful phone imho.
It’s just that the XS is too small (and pricey) by my standards and the XR feels not as good as the iPhone 7+ (sleekness and dimensions).

Hire me.

“Lower the price”

Done.

lmao, it seems that simple yes. I really wonder how it would turn out if all Apple products would cost, let's say 75% of their current price and if upgrades (more storage, ram etc.) cost 50% less.

I wonder if they'd have more money because of more sales. I like to think they would. Because if someone, because of the lower price, buys a iPhone and likes it, he might also opt for a MacBook because of the good ecosystem. So that's another 'unexpected' sale. And so more products would follow for one person. But if a person can't jump on the Apple train because of high prices, he obviously won't have the chance to buy more than one product.

Guess those who want an expensive phone won’t for for one that has worse specs. Many who paid a lot for the x won’t upgrade so soon anyway.
