The iMac will be the first to get it? On the front or on the back? Where I put my iMac I'll never see the back, and I really don't want something on the front designed to catch my attention. If I had my way we would not even have the "chin" on iMacs anymore.

'Infinity tunnel' effect, like on the mirrors, and Citroen rear lights :D

Steve Jobs discontinued this to cut costs.
Tim Cook and co are turning their back now on Jobs cost cutting measures. A shame as even with 150+ billion in the bank, Apple should still be looking for ways to save money.

no it was because it was fine for the 70's and 80's but dated for the 90s and present.

umm, the fix for the mac is simple too: just shut it down rather that put it in sleep mode. Problem solved!

I think the point was being able to keep the devices on.
Shutting off the phone would stop the notification lights as well, but aside from that being a painfully obvious solution, it's not ideal for a phone that could receive emergency calls from loved ones at wee hours in the morning.

Besides, I'd much rather have the Touch ID ring glow than the Apple logo.

I'm not trying to start arguments with anyone. I'm just feeling salty today. ;)

I am always impressed at how MacRumors can write a headline about absolutely nothing. I feel for those who have to create "news" everyday whether there is any actual news or not. CNN, Fox News and Drudge come to mind.

yes, this is where they should focus. I think they should do more stuff like this, as long as they don't slack off on making the computers harder to upgrade. Maybe they can kill three birds with one stone and make the imac thinner, give it a new logo, and come up with some sort of more permanent solution than the adhesive tape keeping the screens on

I wasnt disputing the approach for the phone (turn it over). With a mac though, shutting it down before you go to sleep makes sense. You're obviously not gonna use it while sleeping and in todays world of ssd based macs, its takes all of 15 seconds to boot.

While I agree with the Mac sleeping light issue, the notification light on a phone has an easy fix and one I used quite often with my Nexus 5 at night. Turn it over. A face down phone does not a nightly rave make. ;)

D.

But you can have a notification light on the iPhone if you want, its in the accessibility settings - and no need to turn it over at night, just used DND.

but it takes all of 0.1seconds to close the lid.

I was under the impression that was a one-shot notification and wouldn't repeat to let you know something had happened (i.e. call, message, etc.).
I could be wrong on that though.

I guess it would repeat if you put that message reminder thing on if you haven't looked, but that was the first thing I turned off on iOS5 and never gone near since.

The combination of that and flashing lights are for people really don't get very many messages at all. I prefer to watch it on silent and pick it up every so often to check!

Maybe the new thinner, redesigned MacBook Air is so thin that they are unable to include the illuminated Apple logo in the lid.

Seems reasonable to me!

Guys, don't get your panties in a twist. You are not going to get the green field and leather stiching stuff on your devices anytime soon :D

Meanwhile people are praising the fake leather on the back of Samsung devices...it's utterly revolting. Horrible design. If you wanted leather, buy a case. No phone should permanently have faux leather on the back

How about a little screen which lets you customize your own Apple Logo (Jobs would have never allowed that but you can spin it its been too long that there was no freedom in your logo...);)

Well..

Apple do show a love for the Bevel & Emboss effect in Yosemite and use it for many app icons and system wide icons.

It would be cool to have that kind of effect on products unless it pertrudes like the camera lens on the 6/6+..
