Still don't get it why people don't just buy a $10 cover from a third party that lasts the entire lifespan of the phone. Is the Apple logo on the back of the case that important?

There's a certain "quality" standard attached to the Apple brand. It's not just about the selling price, but design, production, packaging and distribution.

The makers of those $10 accessories have zero interest in adhering to any ethics or environmental protection. They just want to close the sale at any cost.

My Spigen one for my iPhone 11 Pro lasted 3 years before I got my 15 Pro, do you chew on them?
I swear by Spigen Liquid Air on all my devices, and they often last 3+ years with moderate abuse.
I just got a new lighter-colored one to try it; while the color is awful (more like 1970s plastic car seat color less like 'natural titanium'), the durability appears the same as the black/green/blue colorways.

In general yes, but I did fine the Apple Leather cases used to be some of the nicest in terms of protection, style, and desired thickness. They also wore really well over time.

Whaaaaat, Apple is discontinuing their low-quality "environmentally friendly" cases right before Earth Day? Mother Nature surely won't approve!

Joking aside, I hope this means they'll actually start making good cases to replace the FineWoven line. 🤞

Yes. Branding is incredibly powerful.

This is the kind of **** that you get when your CEO is a woke as they come. Focus on environmental nonsense (that actually makes things worse not better), DEI quotas instead of the best man for the job, virtue signaling about human rights on one hand and bending over and staying silent to the CCP on the other and so on.

Tim Cook has been a complete disaster as CEO.

Lol but you go around murdering and eating plants (which provide us with much of the oxygen we need to breathe).

um you do realize a plant doesn't have a neuronal network yes? 'murdering' a plant seems to be a stretch. But if you believe so, I take it you don't cut your lawn? Oh the horror of it all!

Spigen Liquid Armor. Inexpensive (on Amazon, anyway) yet durable. I buy one every time I get a new phone.

Not going to happen because that would be much more expensive, and it would even be more embarrassing than Apple quietly discontinuing a product.

Also, I wonder what the environmental impact differences between natural leather and whatever plastic Apple used when it comes to manufacturing these cases and their end of life at a landfill. I suspect natural leather would be much more environmentally friendly. I wonder if the plastic Apple used isn’t so bad because they designed it to deteriorate rather than around forever. That could be causing the durability issue, but that’s just speculation on my part. These cases might be just as bad as other plastic items.

I think that was the goal. NOBODY should be tossing recyclable materials in the garbage. That's where the problem starts. Is recycling a perfect science? No, but it's way better than just burying the stuff we're done with in the ground.

Apple was using 68% recycled polyester, which itself can be recycling again, so into the recycling bin it should go, NOT the garbage.

Probably the only Apple product I've ever opened and very quickly returned in my 20+ years of owning Apple products.
I saw the way the watch band had worn just as a demo, its was ***** + premium prices for recycled waste seriously !!
Leather is using a by product of eating meet so how is that non environmental. Should we just throw the leather away? cause I for one will eat meet tilll I die.

Looked at the sub-par cases in the Apple Store at the outdoor mall. Walked out.

Went to the bar at the mall. Bought a tall Coors Light.

Ordered real leather case online.

Have enjoyed it since then.
