There were stupid to try sell the Pro for $3,500. Only the most hardcore fanboys and people with more money than brains would buy one.

I think the price of a high end iPhone is reasonable. £1,500 would be my max price and that’s only if I can see a reason to use it every day for minimum of 3 years. I paid £1,500 for my iPhone and £1,700 for my Air but it’s totally worth it because they are essential to me. Both are mature products where you don’t need to upgrade every year or two.

If the headset is just going to be something I use every other day and I’m expected to replace it in a year or two because it’s a new product and new models are making big improvements then the price is going to be lower! I’d probably pay ~£700-900 for such a device.

So yeah…absolutely insane to even consider $3,500! In the UK it’s probably gonna be close to £4,000 haha. They need to significantly reduce the price if they want people to buy a headset.

Maybe by the time a “cheap” model is out the software will have improved. I’d like to get a headset but really can’t see myself buying one for many years… assuming apple doesn’t kill it off!

I'm not shocked. No one is buying the current one. Though it makes more sense to keep working on gen 2 and just sell the gen 1 for cheaper once that one releases.

Focusing on productivity isn’t gonna bring the money alone. Most people don’t want to escape into a world of virtual spreadsheets.

If they want the Vision Pro to be ubiquitous they should focus on developing killer games and for Pete’s sake *shrink their margin.* Convert titles that aren’t beyond its graphics capabilities to work on it. Maybe it can’t do Elden Ring, but I’m sure there’s others in grasp that they could port. PCs wouldn’t have developed to where they are today without games pushing and financing the advancements. Get gamers excited and drop margins to razor thin. Don’t focus on profit, but on owning the space.

No the price didn't come down, AT&T started subsidizing the cost and Apple therefor offered it for less, but you had to agree to a 2-year contract to get for the lower price. They (Apple) were charging the same price if you bought it off-contract until it was discontinued.
nope. i bought the iphone at full price and got a credit from apple later. this article has the correct history

My ex bought one too, and also got a credit. I was with her when she bought it. Anyone after that had to sign a contract with AT&T if you wanted it for $199. If you didn't sign a contract, you still paid $499.

Apple was doing early adopters a favor after a very vocal outcry.

I joined in when the 3G was released.

How to increase Apple Vision sales. Apple Vision Pro could be awesome to watch 3D movies, and most people will want to use it for that. JUST FOR THAT AND ONLY FOR THAT. Not for fancy virtual interfaces, to control the Mac interface or other awkward interface applications, except for disabled people perhaps.

But the lack of support for standard prescription glasses is a DEAL BREAKER. And no, contact lenses or magnetic inserts are not acceptable workarounds for most people. Just imagine having to spend a lot of money on new magnetic inserts each year, as would be required by many people. And the obnoxious huge environmental impact of all that.

But there is a solution., if Apple wants, of course. Just support prescription lenses with Apple Vision Pro. Or sell two models: one not supporting prescription lenses (current one), and other only to watch 3D movies (or any movie on large area), allowing prescription glasses (which would also be a much much, much cheaper model, selling like hotcakes). Problem solved for all.

Probably Apple will not do that, unless forced to do it. If sales of the current Apple Vision Pro are scarce and people ask for the other model, Apple could make it. That would be awesome.

I think you'll see liquid lens technology being used in the near future (~3 years). That would mean fully automatic prescription adjustments.

Ditching the front facing screen does seem like low hanging fruit, but then they said not having you isolated from people around you was a "foundational design goal". Sounds like it's staying!

That and brand recognition. You see the creepy dead eyes staring at you and you instantly know it's a Vision Pro. Kind of like the notch. They leaned into that and made it a defining characteristic of an iPhone and now Mac laptops.

I think in some time we'll see news of Apple scraping the entire Vision product line... Horrible product unless they can make the cheaper model less than $1500
And I think they will

Look at Meta; their newest/most current model of their headset in the Quest 3 starts at $500

There's no reason why Apple won't follow suit and make this "significantly cheaper" version at or around that price too

iPhone and iPad would like a word.

Apple defenders, all across the landscape, want so badly for this to be "all part of the master plan"

They don't seem to realize how far Apple has fallen off in recent years

This was just a huge whiff

In terms of "product", the most out to lunch at Apple is the actual CEO, so I suspect he forced this out against internal opposition.

One supplier that makes key components for the Vision Pro apparently cut production by 50% in May after receiving a forecast from Apple that predicted weaker demand than expected. Information from this supplier suggests that Apple has produced no more than 500,000 Vision Pro units this year, with no plans to make significantly more than this through August.
Fishy… one supplier, which, as a supplier, likely knows WAY more about Sony as a supplier than I do, cut production due to weaker demand than expected.

What’s the weaker demand? 500,000. Now, again, I’m not a supplier, but if I have information that Sony, as a supplier were in no way able to provide any more than 1,000,000 screens, this other supplier knows at LEAST that. Since each of these have two screens, that means Apple were never going to sell more than 500,000. It would be physically impossible unless they were going to ship some with only one screen or no screens. Possible, but unlikely.

So this supplier, is saying that they cut production after Apple said, “We’re going to sell fewer than expected” with the “fewer” literally being EVERY SINGLE ONE they could possibly make in 2024. So, no. No supplier had to cut production because Apple told them “We’re going to sell every single ding dang one of these we make.” They know they don’t have to report which “supplier” told them that, so they made it up.
