If Tim thinks it’s so great, why don’t we see him wearing one?

Low effort post.

It's the HomePod all over again.

I would have launched the affordable one first and come out with the "Pro" later. All Apple did in both of these cases are alienate some of its customers by launching a "too expensive" product first and then making people feel bad about only being able to afford a lesser product. If the products had launched the other way around I don't think people would feel that way.
I’m guessing they didn’t do that because they didn’t want comparisons to existing devices on the market. They wanted VP to be in a class of it’s own. And it kind of is…a class that not many people are buying.

I think in some time we'll see news of Apple scraping the entire Vision product line... Horrible product unless they can make the cheaper model less than $1500

I can’t see that but can see it sort of being a niche product like the larger HomePod or the Airport routers (which were eventually discontinued).

Got it, semantic argument.

60hz is not equivalent to 120hz. One is better than the other. One may or may not be cheaper than the other in absolute relative component cost, since that distinction is apparently all that matters here. As long as Apple pays a lot for the screen, who cares what it actually displays to me, the consumer?
It would be a bit more on the semantic side if the Vision Pro didn't have the most advanced and most expensive display possible. They didn't cheap out there, they limited the performance to match the performance of the device itself - which is what many would just call "tuning". Skipping frames while you're looking through goggles may have been an issue, who knows? Maybe it reduced battery life too much to be worth it. The display reportedly does go beyond 90 Hz in certain scenarios, probably not when processing images from the cameras.

If Apple wanted to, they could just release a subpar display and brag about it doing 120Hz while sweeping the rest under the rug...which is what manufacturers who actually cheap out on displays do. A 120 Hz display uses significantly more power as the phone has to produce twice the frames to be worthwhile, around 20% or so more power. With Apple constraining their phones around efficiency due to other factors you probably disagree with such as size and room for a battery, they likely had to make the decision to stay at 60Hz to keep battery life the same from generation to generation. Most users, even now, do not know what 120 Hz does for them.

Another reason I bothered to respond was because Apple has traditionally been known for their color accuracy and catering to graphic design on the Macs. They do a lot of things people disagree with but the end result is rarely ever because they decided to "cheap out". They'll put the most expensive thing they can find in these devices, and they'll pass the costs on to you at a 100% markup.

This current generation is probably good for 3 years. They have a lot to learn. Just create a sleeker model at $1K - $1.5K(ish) price point and many more would be invested in it.

Still waiting on that killer app / use case
I think the killer app will be AI when it’s able to analyze everything around you and give you information about anything you look at with information overlaid, but we’re at least 3-5 years from that unless we hit the singularity or something

& at some point it’ll need cellular, which they’ll maybe put in the wired battery so it’s not so close to your head

A staged shot aimed at people who would never put one on their faces in a million years.

Question stands: if Tim loves it so much, why don’t we see him wearing it?
Come on. You got exactly what you asked for and instead are just being argumentative.

You want a candid photo to prove...nothing at all. We get it, you're extremely negative towards anything and everything Apple does from your posting history.

Now, do you *really* think the Vision platform is dead? If so I've got some real estate I'd like to sell you...

  • Disagree
Reactions: Surf Monkey
Get rid of the creepy pointless front screen and price needs to be £999 - £1,499 depending on storage size.

Nope. You can find plenty of images of Apple executives using iPhone and other Apple products in the wild. Not the case with Vision. Take Apple keynotes. They make a point of showing all the execs wearing and using the latest Apple products. But not Vision. Where are images of Apple execs using it casually in the real world? There are none.

No, I want a candid photo to prove that anyone at Apple actually uses it casually.

That’s false.

Did I say it was “dead”? Nope. And I’d caution you about trying to take this into a personal squabble. The mods here REALLY don’t like that.

People are being super negative. I want to live in a world where they get smaller and lighter, and I’m glad they’re taking risks on new products. You think Apple is stumbling now, you think iPhone 23 is going to keep them running. Like when they iPad first came out it took a while for it to find its fit in the market, and have the right software (even now it struggles some).

When will all the AVP defenders understand that price is not the only issue with this device? It's also the large and goofy form factor that needs to be greatly reduced and made way less invasive before most people will actually wear it. I don't see this happening for quite some time due to current technological hurdles.

I’m not sure it even got started.
