I don't follow these things closely but amazes me that they make more more from Home/Accessories/Wearables than Macs or iPads.

So on top of Apple having to increase spending, they've had to redeploy, and mind you not a few or some but, "a lot of people" who were "working on other things" to help with Apple Intelligence and get it out on time for a delayed until October release

Do people still think Apple isn't behind on their Apple Intelligence?

🤣

Apple is not behind on AI! Apple played AI smart! Actually Microsoft is behind on AI!

Microsoft says OpenAI is now a competitor in AI and search

Hey, I’m trying to make a point that Google makes up most the majority of Apple’s Services revenue. I don’t need you bringing in facts that dispute that notion so… away with you, you bearer of truth and accuracy!

(This happens EVERY quarter!)

How can we politely say your Math is wrong! Simple Math! Just multiply 2.2 Billion active devices by $5, there is your 20 Billion in Services revenue for the Quarter right there! Don't tell me you are too cheap to have ever signed up for any of Apple's services?

These numbers are based on inflated prces (of everything now) and are not overly meaningful. The real information would be in device counts. With inflation they would show a much higher revenue if they sold the exact same number as the year before, they could even still show a profit with fewer sales.

Apple "Services" includes things such as the App Store, advertising, Apple Pay, Apple Card, AppleCare, subscription products like TV+, News+, Music, Arcade, and iCloud, and the $20 billion or so ($5 billion per quarter) for the Google Search default payment. $5 billion, assuming distributed evenly each quarter, would represent about 21% of services revenue this quarter.

It's obviously not literally 80/10 but the last analysis of it I saw had google search + app store at nearly two thirds of the services revenue.

Can we get with reality and increase the quarterly dividend to $.50 - $.75 per share, already. The Stock Buyback is primarily for Apple's benefit on corporate taxes.

Isn’t it the same thing? Share buybacks increase the share price, allowing shareholders to cash out as and when they wish (while also deferring their tax as desired). This would make it preferable to dividends.

No, they're not behind for how Apple chooses to deploy AI in Apple products. And if they were, so what?

Life goes on.

They really need to market the iPod, it looks like sales have fallen off!
They should do a mini version of the "iPod Classic". Like an updated Gen3 Nano. I want a backlit click wheel, 2.5" retina display, BT 5.X, WiFi 6E, 3.5mm jack, IP6X against dust and water, 40-hour battery, USB-C w/ Thunderbolt 4 & 30W fast charging, up to 1TB SSD, in a rainbow of colors, starting at $199 for 256GB, ready for Christmas '24, and complete with a super-lame commercial with a mediocre-but-catchy song.

I was serious until I got to "$199"

Ok.
Now adjust for inflation and rechart this graph.
I can hear my college statistics professor slapping his forehead from here.

What's your preferred deflator? $25B in 2011 is about $35B in today's dollars assuming you use the CPI. I'm not sure that changes the story in any real way-- this kind of information is used for comparisons across companies and investments which are all priced in nominal dollars because it eventually determines stock prices and dividends that are priced in nominal dollars.

Apple today announced financial results for its third fiscal quarter of 2024, which corresponds to the second calendar quarter of the year.

aapl-3q24-line.jpg

For the quarter, Apple posted revenue of $85.8 billion and net quarterly profit of $21.4 billion, or $1.40 per diluted share, compared to revenue of $81.8 billion and net quarterly profit of $19.9 billion, or $1.26 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter.

Apple set new June quarter records for both revenue and earnings per share, while the Services category set an all-time revenue record. The iPad category also saw a notable increase in revenue thanks to the introduction of new iPad Pro and iPad Air models.

Gross margin for the quarter was 46.3 percent, compared to 44.5 percent in the year-ago quarter. Apple also declared a quarterly dividend payment of $0.25 per share, payable on August 15 to shareholders of record as of August 12.As has been the case for over four years now, Apple is once again not issuing guidance for the current quarter ending in September.

Jason Snell should not use the first chart style to show quarterly results. Use a column chart! I thought these Apple guys were all about "style"?

With Apple Intelligence (AI), buy and hold for the next 5 years at least! Apple's stock may double! That is a conservative estimate too! AI is a seminal event, not for just the tech industry but for the Whole World!

I didn't quite understand a lot of those words but will try to hold for the next 5 years. Thanks for the tip.

How is Microsoft behind? They have integrated AI into a number of their products including Windows, Office/MS 365, Teams, Bing, Azure, GtHub, Surface devices, etc. Their AI activities include partnerships and/or notable investments with OpenAI and NVIDIA. These things have been going on as far back as 2019 if not before.

What???

Gross margin = selling price of item - COG (Cost Of Good) sold

High selling price - COG = gross margin X

Lower selling price - COG = gross margin Y (i.e. a lower gross margin than gross margin X)

Example:

$100 selling price - $40 COG = 60% gross margin

$80 selling price - $40 COG = 50% gross margin

$40 selling price - $40 COG = 0% gross margin
Sure they can: Walmart's gross profit margin has fluctuated over the years, ranging from 23.1% to 25.1% between 2020 and 2024
Apples 45% gross margins is insane!!
