They still have to advertise it.

It is funny process ... rock up to retail store to see new OS X, really excited about it, go home and download.

My guess is the store preparations are to use Lion to sell new macs (i.e. advertise the Apple brand). For those who are looking to upgrade, it is a no brainer ... compared to Windows upgrade, OS X upgrade is a steal!

If you of all people can confirm it's decent, then release day will be like eating a bacon cheeseburger, wrapped in bacon, with an extra side of bacon, with none of the health impact.

I like this analogy!

One person does not make a safe bet for stability in the OS. Wait and see. I'd be amazed if Apple released an OSX that is perfect. It isn't even close to possible.

Guaranteed it will have bugs. That's what happens with all software. Especially complex software like OS's. But based on Apple's history, the patches and updates will come fast and any glaring issues will be squashed soon.

Now, they could learn from Microsoft. Seems as thought Windows 7 was pretty stable... but that was after 4+ years of the Vista public beta cycle. :p

I guess reading is kind of difficult for some people. Actually my post was a reply to another user's suggestion that Lion will be a disaster for the first months for everyone that will use anything beyond the internal provided apps.

I know that disaster scenarios are more attractive to some (aka trolling) but I'll have to dissapoint you. As I said, Lion works flawlessly for me on a real-life scenario.

P.S. Note the "for me" part, means I speak only for my experience.

So should I have waited? They won't update the iMac would they?

No, the iMac will not see an update until early next year. They are just pre-installing Lion on some machines probably so they can ship next week.

Either way, you will get a download code for Lion when it's release and will get it free.

So the four features that apple will be dropping in Mac OS X Lion is Rosetta, Adobe, Java and Front Row?

1.People still needing rosetta need to move in the 21st Century.
2.Adobe CS5.5 and the flash plug-in run just fine.
3.Java is still very much supported, just no longer installed and maintained/updated by apple.
4.Grab an apple TV.

"All I can say is that the GM release feels as solid as a rock until now. As far as it concerns my kind of crash tests, Lion passes flawlessly."

Do learn to read and stop being aggressive, it's unnecessary.

How about a poll?

I was thinking that it might be interesting to post a poll to see how many current OSX users intend to purchase Lion. I haven't seen anything in it (yet) that would cause me to want to spend the money - even if it is reasonably priced.

I'm going for it. Mission control looks like it's worth it. Plus the new multi-touch controls and full screen apps should be cool. Besides all the other tweaks and additions. It's only $29.

I heard in MacStories that they're upgrading the macs with more RAM to demonstrate Lion. Seems like a prove that 10.7 is more RAM hungry. I know it's getting cheaper and cheaper but Apple should have 4GB STANDARD.

Ummm..a lil fact checking, please?

Thanks! Another thing. Will FaceTime be included in Lion or will we still have to buy it separate? On the Apple page they advertise FaceTime with Lion but if you go to the page "All Application and Utilities" http://www.apple.com/macosx/apps/all.html You'll see FaceTime is not listed.

I don't know that saying someone is or a group of people are wrong is bigotry. Bigotry is intollerance of differing opinions, not the act of holding differing opinions.

So, if I say that Republicans are mostly wrong, does that make me a bigot? Surely not. If I say Republican's are mostly bad people then I think that's closer to bigotry.

I'd add that the use of the word "fanboys" suggests that the speaker is intolerant and is therefore bigoted. It's a pejorative term that certainly doesn't apply to everyone who expresses a contrary opinion.

A pair of reports today are suggesting that Apple may be preparing its retail stores for a launch of OS X Lion next week
Who cares???? It's not like you can buy the software there. Somebody wake me when you can buy a physical copy of the software to install. I'd even settle for being able to download and create my own boot DVD or flash drive.

I hope the Mac App Store only release of Lion is an utter failure so Apple finally has to rethink its business model. Don't feed the pig by supporting this distribution model folks.

Don't put any money on your guarantee.

I've been using DP4 as my main OS since its release. That is, I wiped my MBPs drive and did a clean install of Lion DP4. Daily OS, with all my files, all the apps I use, everything. I'm treating it as a full release every day. This is how you really test stuff. It isn't futzing around with a vanilla copy on a separate drive. Instead, it's about forgetting that it's a preview and relying on it every day while taking your chances. Not everyone is able to do this, but for those that are, they'll learn damn quick whether this is something that's ready for release.

It's extremely stable and there are no showstopper bugs (and my hardware isn't exactly new, either.) This is the general consensus.

If the GM is anything like this (an improvement over DP4, apparently) Lion will be damn-near flawless upon release.

This will be an extremely hard act for the competition to follow.

I agree as well. I'm one of the over 5,000 developers at WWDC who put it on and have already forgotten it was a pre-release it is so stable. I was spoiled in about a day of use. Sorry haters, there isn't much to hate here.

Why so upset over no CD????

I don't care how I get it as long as I get it. I just don't get why the CD is so important to an individual. I can understand why some government agencies and corporate customers won't like it and Apple may have to give them install disks or disk images to make some — many of these organizations need a physical product in inventory.... but for the average customer... who cares unless you don't have internet????

* bandwidth limits
* slow internet rates N

Not everyone has access to suitably fast internet connection with plenty of bandwidth allocation. Not everyone lives close to an AppleStore, either.

The problem is you are neglecting what was said by LTD. He said Apple evangelists "tend" to get things right. That is a claim about the past track records of fanboys. From there LTD proceeded to make a prediction, that in the future non-Apple chaps will likely end up on the wrong side of the issues in question. That's a pretty simply case of induction. Now, you might find fault with LTD's evidence, you might think his sample size is poor, heck, you may even think that his records are inaccurate. But his statement is a pretty clear cut example of an inductive claim. I'm not claiming it is a good instance of induction, but if you can't even comprehend that, then it seems your the one in need of some "basic" logic lessons.

As for it being bigotry, again, you don't even seem to understand what the term means. You have neglected to provide, yet again, evidence that LTD is displaying some sort of intolerance to non-Apple chaps. I think he is perfectly happy to hear them out, since he is confident his arguments will win out in the end. You keep asserting his claim is based on no evidence, but have you even asked him what his evidence is? It seems you are more interested in bashing him than actually asking him to justify his claims to see what kinds of evidence he is capable of providing. If anyone is displaying any kind of intolerance to another's opinion, I can certainly say from my perspective, it isn't LTD.
