Who cares???? It's not like you can buy the software there. Somebody wake me when you can buy a physical copy of the software to install. I'd even settle for being able to download and create my own boot DVD or flash drive.

It has already been stated numerous times that you can do the latter. I've certainly done it with the first preview release and now the fourth. Users are reporting that this can be done with the GM as well. It's quite easy.

As to the former, better get used to it. It shows Apple has their act together when they're able to do this and push us further into digital distribution, which is becoming the norm because it makes a world of sense.
I hope the Mac App Store only release of Lion is an utter failure so Apple finally has to rethink its business model..

You'll be disappointed on both counts.
Don't feed the pig by supporting this distribution model folks.

Too late. This train left the station. MS is already gearing up for a similar model.

Oink.

MBA discounts

One sign of update to MBA is that one of the larger electronics chains here in Sweden sell the 11" MBA at a 15% discount at the moment. It's quite rare that you see a Mac on any sale or discount here in normal cases.

I predicted this a few weeks ago - a full MAC computer update, all desktops and laptops, minor tweaks for MBP and iMac and major updates for the rest and all with Lion, a complete MAC family upgrade.....

Miner tweaks? MBP? I would really love to see that. Any reasons for saying so, 'cause I don't think it would happing. :(
If so, please back up your thoughts.

* bandwidth limits
* slow internet rates N

Not everyone has access to suitably fast internet connection with plenty of bandwidth allocation. Not everyone lives close to an AppleStore, either.

In business "not everyone" doesn't count.

If you can sell something to say even only 75% of consumers, the other 25 are not important for ones bottom line. (Everything is always about $$$)

However I think that if the product is so good that these 25% MUST have it, they will find a way to get it.

In the meantime their current stuff and way of doing things works!

More frustrating is actually that in 2011 we still have people with bad dial up connections or no internet access.

I'd believe it, my new MBP order has slipped from delivery on the 11th to the 18th.

Yes, but there is no proof ro that. As the rumor said:
"Beyond the MacBook Air, Apple appears to have a significant number of other Macs in line for refreshes, including the Mac mini, MacBook and Mac Pro. Other lines such as the MacBook Pro and iMac that have been updated more recently may also be seeing some stock shortages as Apple tries to make the conversion over to systems with Lion preinstalled."

So, that's probably the reason why, and not a possible refresh with minor updates… :(
Even so I would love to believe it. ;)

Im so happy they are not using a physical distriobution, everything should only be distributed digitally today.

Wow, I cannot wait until Lion and the new MBAs come out, so I can leave this site till I need a new Mac in about 4 years. It is ridiculous having to read through 3 posts of losers with too much time on their hands picking apart every sentence of a post and attacking each other just to find one post that is actually on topic (not even these are always helpful).

You idiots hijack half of all the threads on these boards, and drive sane people who have real questions/info about the topics away from this site. I applaud all the experienced posters that don't give into this childish nonsense, and actually give respectful/helpful opinions on the topic. Mods (if there even are any) should do a better job of stopping these inane flame wars before they start.

Thanks! Another thing. Will FaceTime be included in Lion or will we still have to buy it separate? On the Apple page they advertise FaceTime with Lion but if you go to the page "All Application and Utilities" http://www.apple.com/macosx/apps/all.html You'll see FaceTime is not listed.

Yes, FaceTime is integrated into Lion. No need to buy it separately.

My big question is if I buy a new MBA with Lion, does that add Lion to my App Store account and allow me to install Lion on my MBP? I hope yea :D

This is something I'm hoping for too. I'm planning on investing in an iMac fairly soon (or a Mini depending on how the refresh shapes up), and wondered if my license for Lion will be valid on my 2008 MacBook.

Physical Media

I for one do not like the download only thing. Some of my machines don't have Snow Leopard installed on them as I only have one license for Snow Leopard. To download Lion, you have to have the latest release of Snow Leopard installed to do the update from the Appstore. Which don't get me wrong, is great. But I would still like to walk into a store and get the disc so I can reformat a drive clean install from the disc and do things that way. Also from a dead machine you can't boot off a digital virtual download. Lastly if you vie for what clearly needs to exist an actual disc copy, is it still only 29.99 for Lion standard and 49.99 for Lion Server or do you pay a premium?

That is true especially with a big company like Apple. If they even reach 50% of their customers then they would have succeeded.

The apple these days will practically throw any product out on the market without even trying it themselves.

They've been doing this since 2007 no reason to stop now.

I, myself, give products SEVERAL months of release before buying anything from apple. They have had the WORST quality control of any tech company out there. Yes products are made of quality materials but on the software side, holy cow I don't know where they find their programmers.

Remember Vista????:D

Maybe from the viewpoint of a blind Apple fan.

From the perspective of reading forum posts, however, it's clear that the "It just works" slogan isn't what it used to be. Waiting for Apple OSX 10.<whatever>.2 seems to be better advice than "wait for service pack 1".

(Better because Microsoft fixes things monthly, so "wait for a couple of Patch Tuesdays" is better advice for most people than waiting for a service pack.)

Remember Vista???:D:D:D

The app store should be preparing itself for a Shidstorm...

Final Cut Pro X was JUST the tip of the iceberg...

I have been upgrading EARLY to all OS X version since it initial release. And I have LOVED each and every upgrade. But Lion, not TEN wild ones could force me to use it. It is slow and reminds me of the days of cheetah. Then it wants to think for me... Believing that it knows better when I want to save and IF I want to save... full screen capabilities are still in its infancy and has so many bugs that one scratches his head and asks himself, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?????.

Looks of the overall GUI have been improved and more streamlined. And along with Mission Control which is nice, Lion brings me personally nothing but downsides.

all of Microsoft's OS's are crap! now their Office Suite is actually pretty good, but I've never really learned Apple's iWork so I cant say if its better or not.

Know only too well what you mean.

Used to come here every day. Now it's rarely worth bothering with. But then this seems to be true of just about any forum on the net these days.

Surprised the Nazis haven't been mentioned yet....

(oooops;))

And yet you see it fit to cruise for information on a RUMOR site... Which is dedicating 96% of all its space to post information about iOS and iPad. When I come here, I think to myself, THE BEST iPAD commercial of ALL TIME..... Jees

I agree. However, I don't know where you got that 75% from :)

Apple could easily distribute Lion on a DVD and charge a small fee to cover the extra costs.
