Is there much of a difference between this and the 2 if you don't go for the cellular version? I'm not interested in cellular, so all I would need is GPS and wifi. I'm not seeing the series 2 anywhere anymore to compare

I am pretty excited about this actually. I can actually finally ditch my phone when out running. I wonder how much memory it has. The new canvas sport bands look decent as well. I currently use the SS because I hate the silicone bands. They are heavy, not breathable and don’t fit well.

This is the Watch I've been waiting on to finally purchase one. If I can just grab this and go for a run, have my Spotify playlists available, and the ability to make phone calls while out, I'm good. Also, as long as it is free/reasonable to use in addition to my current cell plan.

Unless you find it cheap on clearance, I can't think of a reason to get a Series 2.
Added features on Series 3 (GPS), and cheaper price.

In fact, here in Canada, (adjusted for recent strength in Cdn dollar) the Series 3 is cheaper than the Series 2.

I would rather just call on my phone I don’t get making calls on a watch

It makes sense for me, I work in live entertainment and am often climbing with a harness on. Right now I can take calls while climbing without touching my phone by using my watch and AirPods. The downside is, I don't have a good place to store the phone without risking it either falling out of a pocket, or being squished by a harness strap. If I can eliminate the phone part, then my life become a little bit easier when my feet aren't on the ground. Wether I'll upgrade my watch depends on how much extra VZW will charge.

I don't want the cellular model. Happy to see the non-cell 42 mm version is now $359. $40 price drop from Series 2.

If only it didn't have that silly red dot.

That dot is indeed a rather odd addition.
However, I think it appears only on the cellular models...perhaps to signify it's an upgraded model.
It doesn't look too bad on the space grey or silver, but IMO clashes with the 'gold/rose' colour.

I’m probably in the minority by I’m glad they are still making a WiFi only version. No sense having cell phone radiation plastered on my wrist 24/7...

Yet you are OK with WiFi radiation? It would be real interesting to see who started all of this cell phone radiation nonsense and what their motivation was. Modern day Luddites maybe.

You can always take the approach the Amish do and build a little hut for your phone communications needs and leave the phone there. At least the Amish have a rational reason to keep electronics out of the home and off their bodies.

I'm really stoked about the AW3! I'm a Series 1 owner and I will definitely upgrade. My order will be placed in 3 days...

An LTE watch may be able to call 911 even if you don't have a plan; at least that is how cell phones usually work. So that is a substantial safety advantage to getting the LTE version.

I am pretty happy with my original series 0 watch, and probably won't upgrade, at least for a while. I do text on the watch quite a bit. If I can call 911, I would get the LTE version even if I am too cheap to pay for a plan (I would wait for them to be cheap or free).

Maybe it's different for every carrier? But nice to know you've made an uninformed decision.

Pass, the fact they couldn't give a monthly price means it's going to be high. I'm guessing 15-20.00 a month. I can't see a reason to pay that much for it. And without cellular 329 is a good deal but Series 2 can do all the same stuff minus stairs.. so again no reason to upgrade.

From Apple's website on the battery life for calls...

Up to 3 hours connected to iPhone
Over 1 hour connected to LTE

Ouch...

The most important question is: will it have personal hotspot so I can bring my LTE-less iPad along and browse from it when there is no wifi around?

They finally getting the Watch to the point of where I'm interested. I still need to hear how it works. Do we need to contact our cellular provider to use the LTE feature? If so is there a cost to it? HOw's battery life as far as LTE goes. HOw many calls can one make? How long can you stream Apple music for over cellular? etc etc.

I don't own and have no immediate plans of owning an Apple Watch, but my marathon friends have really wanted a watch that could make and receive phone calls while training. They already use the watch for monitoring their workout but have to carry their phone as well. This will make one less thing to carry.
