I thought the watch was the most exciting part of the event and I'm looking very forward to upgrading my original.

I'm curious what the up charge is going to be to use the cellular features, but the idea that I can leave my phone behind in a lot of circumstances is VERY appealing.

And I think this time I am going to get one of the stainless steel models. I don't foresee upgrading this device all that often.

Really?

The only time I think I'd like this is when I'm out for a run or a swim. Other than that, I'll have my phone with me. When else do you leave your phone behind?

There's a bit of an oxymoron here - I one hand, the watch lets you always be connected. On the other hand, I really don't want to be disturbed when I'm out for a run or a swim...

What happened last year with BestBuy? Did they run some type of trade in deal? I might consider trading in my Series 3 if the deal is right
I can't say but BB does offer some trade ins on various items. Last year you could get $300 or more off on series 1's, Keep checking with them not me.

Looks Like Bell in Canada will only be $5 a month

As someone who is very into fitness, not carrying my phone is a big deal. I mainly like having my phone for emergencies and, since I have an original, a GPS. If I go to the beach or out on the lake, I can leave my phone behind. It's not that I won't generally have my phone with me, it's that when I don't want it with me it's very inconvenient to have.

When I workout I flick the watch (and my phone) to do not disturb to ensure the only taps I get are from the app I am using and not a call or text or email. Since my watch lacks a GPS as it is, I'm always connected anyway.

I wonder if the non-LTE version will have the same battery as the LTE version, and therefore have better battery life?

So, is it possible to have an Apple Watch 3 Cellular without a Cell Phone, and use it for calls? They made it sounds like it only augments a cell phone even though it has it's own independent plan. I would consider ditching my iPhone plan, and just have the watch and some ear pods for when I am out and about.

Same. I have no use for a phone. The displays are too small to pull up drawings or sketch on, and they're too big for use in sports. Now with this watch, the phone is redundant for making calls.

An iPad Pro + the Watch 3 would be ideal, but doesn't look like that's an option.

Looks like you have to buy a $700 iPhone you'll never use just to get the cell plan to make the $350 watch work.

Did anyone notice that the Stainless Steel version of the Series 3 is only available for LTE models?
This is a deal braker as not everyone needs LTE, and worse than that, the LTE version won't be available in many countries in Europe, like Portugal (mine).
Just a shame!

So wait, what is the difference between series 2 and series 3 again?

What's with the red dot? Am I the only one that thinks it's ugly?

Without cellular there's almost no difference at all, which I guess is why they're getting rid of the series 2 rather than the series 1. And I'm with you, that red dot is gross.

You can probably use it and not activate the LTE, like the iPad.

Well I will now try an Apple Watch. Been holding off a few years for this.[/QU
The time is now! Had a Series 1, currently wear a 2, and now I want the 3. The Altimeter and LTE make it a no-brainer

Am I the only one who really hates the red dot?

nope - unless it doubles as a detonator, then I don't want it on the crown.

That's actually a great idea. Put a camera on the back of it and then you could take it off to take pics. That would be a great feature.

I think the same technology in the FaceID on the iPhone will be coming to the Apple Watch in the near future. That said, having a camera on the back is not a bad idea in the interim. I hadn't really thought of it that way, but with some bands, it's no harder to take off than dig your phone out to grab a quick pic -- though the phone is likely going to have a much better camera than the watch. Also, once you take that watch off, you'll lose your secure pairing, and have to enter your code on that tiny little screen to unlock and perform any secure transactions. That's why I doubt Apple will tackle it until they have a FaceID solution. Then you'll also have a FaceTime and selfie camera as well.

Still rectangular. Still no sale.

For my needs, it doesn't matter what shape the watch is. As a fashion accessory, I'm not interested in it though. So I'll still go without a wristwatch to a party or event, and carry my phone.

Frankly, now that Apple has built the watch they "always wanted to make", I can see them developing a round UI and moving that direction next, if for no other reason, than a round case offers them more space for things like a camera and a battery. They could even stagger the release dates between the models. And they've already started developing a round UI for use with the HomePod, which has the same size round display as the 38mm Apple Watch.

All indications are the HomePod UI is Siri, and the display is there for little or no other purpose but to supply visual feedback on the voice commands.

This obsession with roundness has always mystified me. Nobody ever seems to be able to state a rationale for it beyond they that they like round things.

Why is the new Watch 3 still using Bluetooth 4.2 when the new iPhone 8 is using the newer Bluetooth 5.0 (Twice the speed of 4.2, more than enough to support lossless CD-quality audio).

That's like saying 'Nobody ever seems to be able to state a rationale for making it in the color red, beyond they like red things'.

It's something people are going to wear. They want to adorn themselves with things they like. Period -- end of discussion. No other rationale needed.

Don’t like:
*The red on the crown
*That, despite having LTE, we still can’t pair the Watch with an iPad and occasionally leave our phones at home (the Watch will use its own LTE instead the iPad’s LTE or Wi-Fi)
*Still no square analogue Watch face

And I have a sinking suspicion that the Watch face shown will not be available on non-Series 3 Watches.
