.. It's gotten to the point that I only answer calls on the watch if absolutely necessary.
Although calls on my series 1 are fine,AEBE, I think that is the idea. It isn't meant to be a primary call device*, but is really nice to have when you are away from your phone, like say, out in the garage, under the car, or out in the yard when a call comes in. Beats having to hoof it back inside to take that call.
*Wild card are AirPods. I was floored how clear phone call are on the AirPods over my phone. They sycn to Apple Watches too. If you can genuinely wear your Airpods and take calls over your watch with similar clarity, then THAT will really be something and one step closer to leaving the phone on the charger more often.

It is funny how the techs found a way to improve iPhone X's battery life by 2 hours and did nothing to improve the AW3's battery life.
With the added significant power draw of cellular, the techs had to have improved the battery to maintain the same battery life.

The new watch is by far the more exciting thing annouced at this keynote. IPhone X , meh... maybe next version at a more reasonable price. But the new watch... i'm sooooooo getting this !

I totally agree. The real story and big news here is the LTE Apple Watch. This is a big deal. I'm buying one and it will be my first apple watch. The LTE sold me. Being able to leave my phone behind is just amazing for me, not to mention solves a big problem of... what if you lose your phone, it breaks, or it gets stolen. You are now still able to be connected. I don't know about you guys, but losing or breaking your phone while traveling SUCKS x 1000! I've had it happen to me and I literally didn't know what time it was until the next day. Didn't have a watch or a phone. So this is a great piece of technology in my book and I love it. I think this is a big jump forward for tech.

This is the first apple watch i might be interested in. LTE makes it useful to me as a watch for sports, hiking and such. I often find myself not wanting to carry a large phone around. The only thing i would miss is the lack of a camera. Overall this looks like a great piece of technology, far more impressive to me than the iPhone X. GPS, Wifi, LTE, iPod, Heart rate, email, txt. It even shows the time ;-)

That's actually a great idea. Put a camera on the back of it and then you could take it off to take pics. That would be a great feature.

They only mentioned for LTE.

Wonder if there's more for non-LTE?
It should be.

NO, just read on Swedish Apple site, up to 18hrs for non LTE.

I am disappointed :(
Seems like it will be a Polar or Garmin for me with that crappy battery on AW3 & no sleep tracker.

18 hrs though? I can last around double that with my series 2, and that's at least with one exercise session at the beginning of the cycle. I put it on the charger every night and it's usually around 50%. 6:30 AM to 10:00 PM

Exactly. No need to update my Nike watch from last year. So that's nice. I even roll in airplane mode often throughout the day. Notifications can be distracting and it shuts off the bluetooth.
I do the same thing! The things I use the watch for primarily don’t require a connection (except for the times I use it for FaceTime Audio)

Did I miss something during keynote? What’s the red for on the Digital Crown? Is it just for aesthetics?

For those who complain about the red dot, I think I know why they did it. It's the differentiate the model that has GPS and Cellular compared to those that are series 1-2. Series 3 is 'red dotted'. Easier to spot them that way. How can you tell which is which if they all had the exact same design?

See my point?

Not more battery in the non-LTE :(
So no AW3 for me- see what AW4 comes with
Now I have to chose between Garmin or Polar instead. Both good battery.

Well, battery already was good with the latest OS versions. AW4 might be have a smaller form factor. So surely not more capacity either. Same for the iPhone or iPad back than. So you might have to wait forever. I guess I pick one this time.

I really would only buy one if Spotify would finally get their act together and release an Apple Watch app...

I wonder if the Wi-Fi only version will have an increase in battery life with the more efficient hardware since it doesn't have to drive an LTE chip.

Useless if you want to track sleep too. Just as important to me as the training.
No, Apple are not there yet if you want to have the watch primary to training.

Not enough in AW3 for training and sleep tracking.
Yes, it will be a Garmin or Polar now, very soon. :D

From Apple's website on the battery life for calls...

Up to 3 hours connected to iPhone
Over 1 hour connected to LTE

Ouch...

That's why it's NOT wise to expect a Watch to be a replacement for the Phone. The Watch is NEVER meant to do everything that the phone does. After all, making calls, using GPS, listening to Apple Music and the like will take up a lot of battery juice. Henceforth, the 3 hours/1 hour limitation.

It's fine to use that as an emergency but not a replacement to make prolonged conversations. Especially text messaging is more brief and cut down on the Watch. As a deaf person myself, I find it's more practical to use a phone for text conversations or using a video chat that way.

No, same as earlier. Thought so too 1st, had hoped for it, but no improvement.

True, it supposedly should not replace the phone, it's an option.

I'm thinking of getting a Garmin because I'm about to get back into Fencing this month for the year. I know Apple Watch has a fencing activity in the new OS iteration but I doubt it's that accurate. Garmin is more focused and rugged in design. I think the new Vivoactive or Vivosport models will fit my situation better.

I'm checking on the new Vivomove HR (not for sale yet) or maybe a Forerunner. Or a Polar A370?

Ugh. I’m gonna be so broke by the end of this year. So broke.

Why are you going to be broke? It's not as if Apple products are priced just for the rich. Everyone should be able to easily afford Apple products.

I've heard professional athletes swear by Polar due to accuracy and experience in the industry for that reason. Garmin is another one but I'm sure the Vivomove HR is good for those in any sport. I would feel better using either of these devices instead of the Fitbit or Apple Watch. If I'm not mistaken, the Garmin health app seems more deeper than any other there, probably close to the Apple version. Fitbit is supposedly well done and streamlined but not deep enough and too 'social' for me.

For a hardcore athlete, they're better off with dedicated devices like Garmin or Polar.

We gonna finally get the ability to listen to / control podcasts on the watch, or nah?
That's been available for a while with third-party apps. I listen to podcasts on my AW2 all the time on runs (with no iPhone). (It's not like Apple's Podcast app is good to begin with.)
