APPLE WILL NOT BE LAUNCHING THE NEW IPOD TOUCH 6 ON JULY 14,2015. IT MAKES NO SENSE FOR THEM TO LAUNCH A NEW PRODUCT AFTER A 2 1/2 YEARS. IT MAKES MORE SENSE TO LAUNCH ON THE 3 YEAR MARK WHICH IS AROUND SEPTEMBER 2015. THEY WILL ALSO NOT GIVE A OLD OUTDATED SPECS SIMILAR TO IPHONE 5, 5S OR 5C. IT WILL BE SIMILAR TO IPHONE 6 OR 6S. APPLE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE GOOD SALES WITH A INFERIOR OUTDATED SPECS. THEY WILL LAUNCH IT DURING THEIR 4RTH QUARTER TO MAXIMIZE THEIR SALES. ALSO IT WILL COME IN 16GB, 32GB, 64GB. THIS YEARS IPOD TOUCH WILL BE A VERY GOOD PRODUCT AND WILL ALSO BE A HIT ITEM IN THE IPOD TOUCH SERIES
Your caps lock is on.

Put my iPod 5gen on eBay as soon as I saw this thread today and it sold in a couple of hours. The new 8.4 update is slow to load up my audiobooks in the iBooks app. Plus I'm really looking forward to how it handles Frax pro. I hope they keep it at 4" so it fits into my Piel Frama case.

I wonder why as the current iPod has the old A5 processor in it - plus less RAM as well. It's getting too long in the tooth. The iPod needs to be as large as the iPhone 6, as it still uses the old 4" screen. Its the odd one out.

Looking forward to the new iPod Touch. I hope they bring back the ambient light sensor.
128gb model would be perfect. I would love to keep more of my music collection on my device.
My 5th gen iPod Touch has served me well, is still in great condition and functions flawlessly but I'm more than happy to buy an upgraded model. The ambient light sensor is still a much needed function as it seriously makes all the difference when going outdoors and being able to see what's on the display without having to mess about with the brightness control.
The 5th gen kinda feels left behind. Bring on the 6th gen!!! :)

I might keep an eye on the touch. If they ever release a larger sized Touch*, I'd probably buy that and go back to a flip phone once my contract is up.

* Knowing Apple and their desire to sell phones, I doubt a larger Touch will be released, but it's great to know that Apple are still releasing these.

I had the original iPod with the click wheel and, IMO, it is the best device they created right there. No touchscreen BS. Just a focused menu-driven UI that allows you to play music, off the grid. Period. I still have it and it's a vintage item. I could easily close my eyes and play the next playlist or adjust the volume while napping and listening, instead of just LOOKING at the screen. It was perfect. I did wait several years later until they brought out the first iPod Touch and I got that one as well.

But as time goes by, I realize how flawed the iPod is. It is not a focused product but with iOS slapped on with repeated functions that you don't need such as a weather app, email, etc. Sure, it's a stripped down iPhone but it defeats the purpose when Apple slaps iOS across the board on all devices. It's contrived, stupid and lazy.

The iPod Nano, however, is what the regular iPod should have been. If you were driving on the road with the iPhone and you're trying to play Apple Music and then the carrier signal dies as you go out into the rural area, then you're screwed. You can't check email, phone calls, surf the web, or play music from the Cloud. This is the biggest flaw of using music on the cloud when your carrier signal drops.

With Wi-fi you have to stay put in the same area to use it, such as a cafe, home, office, school, etc. This is why I prefer listening to music 'off grid' with the old iPod. Apple needs to strip down the OS with few apps that focus on music and radio and with wi-fi when you're in the 'wifi zone'.

Now, if you're in an urban area with wifi or 3g/4g signal, then it's fine to play off Apple Music or Radio on the iPhone continuously, or your own playlist on the Cloud. Using ' roaming ' on the iPhone would make it slower so I wouldn't recommend it. I tried it once and it took almost forever to wait for new email to show up.

If you want to play games, iPad Mini is the way to go for that larger screen. Not iPod ( unless they go with the 5.5 inch size, then that would be a different story ). If you want to check email or make phone calls, either iPad or iPhone are the appropriate communications hub for this.

Apple really needs to go 'old school' with the iPod with the wheel. I don't buy Cook's BS on not able to get the parts when other competitors can still make them. I look at Sony and they sill have these devices with functional buttons and wheel ( last time I checked ). The iPod, IMO, should be designed for 'off the grid' music playing when you don't want to use the phone for that. Keep it separate. Or turn on wifi to listen to the Beats One or other radio-based apps.

And no, the Apple Watch doesn't count. Making phone calls while you drive with the Watch will get you pulled over. A guy from Canada got busted for doing exactly that.

why do people still bother ipod when we having iphone - everything iphone can do that ipod do
Because the iPod touch does everything that the iPhone does, for less than half the price. I've been using an iPod touch since the beginning along with a cheap cellphone and a basic calling plan. That's what my needs are. I've saved thousands over the years. Money is an issue for some. There are people who are careful with the way they spend their hard-earned money.

It's not everybody who can afford a $800 cell phone.
even homeless got an iphone in street-

american livikg style poor or rich they find way to catch happiness

i think all have iphone now -
every single house at least 1 or 2
person do using iphone

future soon we are part of that ...........

No one should get their hopes up too high. We all know how that's gone in the recent past with new Apple products/updates.

Prepare for yet another Apple (under Tim Cook) product disappointment. The iPod will not be the best portable music player by a long shot. Astell&Kern, HiFiMan, and even Sony (as well as others) all make a better player.

Apple, under Tim Cook, is no longer about making the best products, it's about counting beans.
I don't upvote your post just to exorcise it, but I'm afraid you're right. Recent history of Apple updates/upgrades is quite scary.

Last time they "updated" the Touch was in June. Also A7 and A8 are similar in power.

Any chance they might update the software on current iPod Nano's? At least a UI facelift so their more in line with the current looks of the Mac OS X and iOS counterparts would be nice, those icons look so dated now :(

The OS is usually designed to fit the capabilities of the internal hardware, so probably there won't be an updated firmware/OS for the Nano unless there is also a new generation of the iPod Nano. Which could be introduced with this announcement, so it's possible you'll see new firmware with it.

Apple will announce a refreshed lineup of iPod touch, iPod nano and iPod shuffle portable media players around July 14, according to usually reliable French website iGen.fr. The report claims the new iPod touch (codenamed "N102") should be a more significant update, likely including a bump to a 64-bit A-based processor, while the iPod nano ("N31A") and iPod shuffle ("N12D") may be refreshed with new colors only.

iPods in unreleased colors spotted in iTunes 12.2 earlier this month

iPods in unreleased colors were spotted in iTunes 12.2 earlier this month, including a darker blue for the iPod touch, a new gold or beige color for the iPod nano and a brighter pink color for the iPod shuffle. Notably, a few eagle-eyed readers noticed that the Calendar app on the iPod touch displays "Tuesday" and "14," which lines up with Tuesday, July 14 and information shared by iGen.fr's sources.

MacRumors discovered a full lineup of six new iPod colors

MacRumors subsequently discovered a full lineup of six new colors for the iPod touch, nano and shuffle hidden within iTunes resource files, including silver, space gray, red, bright pink, deep blue and light gold. Beyond new colors, storage capacities and other minor changes, Apple last updated the iPod touch and iPod nano in October 2012 and the iPod shuffle in September 2010.

Update 1 PM Pacific: iPod touch shipping times have slipped to 3-5 business days on the Apple Online Store in the U.S. and Canada.

I don't see a place for the touch unless they make it cellular data capable. The ipad mini really offers more functionality.
I see a real need for a BT only ipod nano with 128G storage. I'll be interested in seeing if anything comes out next week but I doubt I would buy another touch again compared to what the new iPad mini will have.

Because I'm not going to get my 9yo daughter and 6yo son $700 phones.

Most parents I see nowadays just get an iPad, put it in an Otterbox case, and let them roam free.

I know it's anecdotal, but I never see anyone buying their children iPods even though everyone says so in the forums.

I haven't seen an iPod in a year. Almost all I've seen are being used by the occasional middle schooler.

Not happening, those tracks have DRM. Spotify doesn't offer this either with good reason.

The same DRM that has been in existence for a while now and that Apple used before, yet, let users sync their iPod? That same DRM? If there's a will, there's a way ... unless they have a good financial reason for it.

It'd better be a fast processor or iOS 9 will run badly.

Time to bring in more RAM and a bigger, higher ppi screen as well.
