Apple Rumored to Launch Notch-Less iPhone in 2020

I’m so glad I skipped the iPhone X and waited for the XS instead. I’ll gladly upgrade to a notch-less iPhone in 2020.

The rumor makes sense too, Apple has patents on under screen cameras and ultrasonic fingerprint recognition.

These rumors are fun to discuss, but I wouldn’t put too much stake in them.

Android Q is rumored to be incorporating a face scanning authentication system, so it seems unlikely Apple would go back to fingerprint scanners just as Android goes forward with face scanners.

It may be best to offer both TouchID iPhones and FaceID iPhones, let customers choose.

I find it incredibly hard to believe - impossible actually, given what Apple has actually said about Face ID - that they would then throw it out and go back to Touch ID. The Notch sucks, and I doubt Apple is happy with it and wants it there, but I'd bet on Face ID being a permanent part of the iPhone going forward.

Personally speaking I own a new iPad and an iPhone 8 and... I'd rather have Face ID. But I don't like the Notch.

Apple said all kinds of stuff about 3D touch... and it's dead.


I don't like faceid, I don't want FaceID, and I won't buy FaceID. I'm not alone.

Ugh I really hope this isn’t true, I don’t want to go back to fingerprint.... I’ve gotten used to Face ID and much prefer it..... the ideal iPhone would be under screen camera with Face ID.... fingerprint optional I guess for those who prefer to live in the past and want to use inferior technology.

I call a giant BS on ditching Face ID. Apple made a huge deal out of how much more safer Face ID is over Touch ID. At most adding Touch ID back will be as a secondary authentication method or to give people a choice. But Face ID isn’t going anywhere.

I was against the notch. I thought it was hideous and greatly distracted from the user experience. But the legions of notch-loving fans convinced me otherwise... now, no notch, no sale.

I hope not. Have you used a device with under screen fingerprint authentication? It SUCKS. I have a work S10+ and it works 50% of the time.

I have no issue with no notch-but no FaceID? Ugh.

Apple kinda needs Touch ID for any budget phone. Personally I’m fine if we never saw Face ID again. It was always a more expensive plan b for apple no matter how they want to rewrite history.

Are any Android models even close to FaceID? It's been two years and I have yet to see one that works.

I find it funny that Apple is more than willing to ditch certain features but others, such as the touch bar, remain despite lackluster sentiment from customers.

I always thought (and said) the notch was a horrible compromise that Apple would get rid of as soon as they possibly could. So I won’t be surprised when(ever) it happens.

I would guess they’ll be able to do FaceID from under the screen. Ideally they could do Touch ID as well in the same way.

If FaceID is removed, I’m not a buyer. My experience has been far superior with my XR than with TouchID on a 7. I don’t notice the notch at all, so that is a non-issue for me.

If the 2020 high-end model is true, I'll finally have something to replace my 6S. Touch ID and no notch, sirs.

Just look at butterfly keyboard: no praise, no joy, tons of criticism. The good thing is Face ID is not that bad, and community is more polarised than butterfly keyboard one.

I would not be surprised if Apple cannot figure out a way to include Face ID under the display and ditch Face ID and replace it with Touch ID. There is one problem though: where would front facing camera go?

Because like every other company, they want to show “hey we did this first” to the world, Rather than polishing it to an extent before announcing it. This is even more important for Chinese to satiate their nationalism lust.
