I'd like to see an iPhone thats about 4.2". the 4" iPhone SE is a little too small, but much nicer for me to hold than the 4.7", and the 5.5" is right out at the size.

I've been recently using a 5c again and forgot how much i loved this design. if the screen were just slightly bigger, and slightly less border, it would be my favourite phone.

except for iOS >.<

I upvoted you, but really, 4.2" is too big.

4.1" is the maximum size possible for one-handed use, in my opinion, and even that's pushing it.

If the 4.7 is in the same casing as the current 4-inch (with edge to edge), that would be fine by me. No reason to add a random size in the middle and not make something that rivals the current SE.

"Nikkei says Apple will release the three iPhones in the following sizes: 5.5 inches, 5 inches, and 4.7 inches."

Why isn't it obvious to most people posting that the sizes Nikki describes are the three current phones with edge-to-edge displays?

Somewhat yes agree. I would guess that they are finally seriously testing OLED for that ideal size of 5 inch with greater pixel density. If it fails, S-series in 2017.

I just hope they finally go back to non-protruding camera on the back. If Google managed to do it with the Pixel and their camera is getting rave reviews, I'm sure Apple can.

Protrusion was maybe for attention to camera (while competing on thinness). Johnny Ive intends no protrusion ultimately, by which time Apple needs to show best in class camera.

Well, 4.7" edge-to-edge will be smaller than the iPhone 4" 5/5S/SE (which is roughly 5.4" diagonally).

One-handed use isn't about the diagonal length of the entire phone body. Nobody tries to reach the corners of the bezel with their thumb, they want to reach the corners of the screen. A reach ranging 4.7" is significantly more than a reach ranging 4" no matter how you look at it.

They should focus on making their phones holdable again, without using a case. Enough with the bar soap slippery materials. And thin isn't everything (as Barbie found out), it's a fact that there is an optimum thickness to holding something in the human hand. Which is why the SE sells well and is the most comfortable for most people.

SE is the optimum thickness? That's certainly not a fact; that's your opinion. Personally, I find it more comfortable holding and carrying my credit card than my iPhone. To me, that's the optimal thickness and weight for a smartphone and that's what Apple should be striving for.

If you go back and read comments about the 5, you'll see plenty of complaints about its design: how ugly it was, how the sharp edges dug into their hands, how difficult it was to pick up, etc.

Yeah, hopefully. I'm almost used to the protrusion now having had the 6 and now 7 but it would be nice to go back to not having it.

I really hope Apple will introduce something special. But somehow I've more faith in other brands by delivering real innovations at a reasonable price.

The big surprise will be in iOS 11 I think. They come up with new disk format compatible with the Mac and more efficient with ssd and memory. Think of a file manager for iOS 11.

But I'm afraid google will be first if that happens.

The next iPhone really needs to go OLED, and Ive knows it.

Black iPhone 7 looks amazing until you turn the screen on and your alleged black background is actually silver.

I can't see them doing 3 models, UNLESS:

iPhone 7S and 7S Plus are released as lower cost models with no design changes
AND
A 5" iPhone 8 (or whatever it's called) is the only glass-backed, OLED model.

I really just don't know why they would have 3 separate, all-new models.

Why have an edge-to-edge model alongside "normal" models?
Samsung thinks that is a good idea.

Jet black is a clear step in that direction. And a glass back will do so also.

I highly doubt that the thickness makes much of a difference with the SE. It's primarily the size, secondly the flat edges and maybe after that the thickness.

No reason to have both a 5 and 4.7 inch model unless they are very different in some way.
