I really hope Apple has some sort of software to deal with accidentally pressing on the screen. One problem I had with the S6 Edge was that I always accidentally pressed the edges when I didn't want to.

The reason Apple did so poorly with iPhone sales is that they never introduced a brand new iPhone 6 in a 4-inch model back in 2014 and tried to pass off a four year old iPhone 5 for three generations.
The iPhone 5(s) was four years old during a whole three-year period?

Sounds about right for Timmy's "practically magic(TM)" pipeline.

If you can't innovate a better product, innovate a new size of the same product.

Actually, Android phones have had a non-physical Home button for a while now and it works very well.

at the beginning of 2017, with the Galaxy S8 -- they are rumored to have the fingerprint sensor under the glass and get rid of the front key.

2017 might be actually interesting time for mobiles.

OK fair, however the lack of a tactile button is a bad idea for functionality.

Does it look cooler to have no buttons? Yes, 100% but it's just bad for user experience.

Here's 2 quick examples:

  1. Imagine your laptop keys were all touchscreen, you'd have to always be looking at your hands when typing. This is backwards evolution in efficiency.
  2. Imagine all of your vehicle controls were touchscreen, you wanted to turn the defroster on, without the tactile buttons you'd have to take your eyes off the road. The more time your eyes are off the road, the more dangerous it is.

Fully bezel-less full-screen phones area also a really bad idea for functionality.

They leave more margin of error when handling the phone. Holding the phone in your hand and your palm or other fingers slightly overlap the front edges. It would cause mis-tap events and again, just slow you down to have to go back on unwanted gestures.

PLEASE RE-INTRODUCE THE 3,5 mm HEADPHONE JACK. PLS HAVE COURAGE TIM CROOK !

Timmy only cares about short term profit.

45 million iPhones in 1 quarter. If just 5% fall for the wireless pods/beats, that's 2.25 million headphones. Average of $200 each makes it $450 million in extra revenue on a very high margin product line.

It doesn't matter how much they piss off customers and drive away future iPhone uses to android. Over the next year that's a lot of extra revenue, and when the shoe drops Timmy will just resign with a golden parachute and brag about how high his profits were and claim at the problems are the next guy's fault.

DAMNIT! My 7 plus is scheduled to be shipped 2 days before this is released! Should I cancel?!

I own the 7+, had the 6 before that. I regret upgrading since nothing feels fresh and/or new.

So, upgrade if you really, really have to, otherwise I would strongly advice you to hold off and wait for the 8.

Why have an edge-to-edge model alongside "normal" models?

Is edge-to-edge the way forward for the iPhone or not? Stop playing it safe and make a damn design choice, Apple.

You realize you're getting angry at rumors about something that doesn't even exist, right?

Five was introduced into two thousand and 12. 5S was introduced in 2013. And when panic stations occurred SE, the third generation of iPhone five, was introduced in 2016. You can do the maths you know how it all adds up.

my order has been in for a month and i have a few weeks left until my "ship date". I've had plenty of time to think it over and will most likely cancel. I've owned every iPhone released and at this point I am having a hard time justifying this purchase.

HEY DUDE! PEOPLE WHO YELL OR WRITE IN EVERYTHING BIG ARENT ALWAYS RIGHT! THATS A MISTAKE ;)

btw the "S-Model" was never the best selling iPhone cause people want the new designed shi7. a better hardware was never a reason for fanboys. and for apple its perfect. they can sell you every new design with old hardware inside
iPhone sales are down because they neglected a core segment of the market the 4 inch iPhone market.

[doublepost=1477508503][/doublepost]I totally agree that sacrificing the 4 inch iPhone was a big mistake. I will keep my old 5S for now, but need is hard pressed to find another 4 inch alternative. Hopefully the competition will be looking at this.
4 inch is the perfect size it's nice and compact but you can still get lots of things done on it.

Which is why iPhone sales were down in the second and third quarter of 2016 while the SE was available (and current in technology except for the last two weeks of third quarter)?

I'm often thinking about people with accessability needs and whether these kinds of changes make it harder for users to get things done.

Yeah, judging by what you have written I feel that you are not really hyped over the updates on the 7+. I stand by that you will probably regret buying it if you do. Personally I really wish that someone would have told me this a few weeks ago so that I too would hold off on a stupid/not worth it purchase.

No one wants yesterdays (2012 design) sloppy thirds. Bring us an all new four inch.

Ok, let's parse your original statement:
"The reason Apple did so poorly with iPhone sales is that they never introduced a brand new iPhone 6 in a 4-inch model back in 2014 and tried to pass off a four year old iPhone 5 for three generations."
So, the iPhone 5s, introduced in 2013, was a four-year old phone in 2014, 2015, and 2016? I know time can be relative, but how a phone introduced in 2013 suddenly was four-years old one year later is beyond me.

If they remove the home button that will cause a mass exodus of customers.

On the contrary, many have requested for the home button to removed or integrated into the screen. Which would allow for less hardware, further water resistance and more sleek appeal. I'm all for it. Time will tell.
