FBI, DOJ have become synonymous with "Republicans" who always "think backwards, in reverse."

Let me correct that for you:

Apple, Liberals have become synonymous with "Democrats" who always think "think backwards, in reverse".

Name calling on either side is not advancing this issue or any other.

All I know is that if an impenetrable terrorist smart phone is allowed to exist, this will only help innocent people die. I said "help" so please quote me correctly.

Perhaps you missed this one:

Pretty sure there is a (D) next to his name...

The (D) is magical; it means that person is exempted from any criticism, can get away with murder, and must continue to be voted for and aggrandized at all costs.

It's crazy how some people are actually told this and then hold the belief like religion. Some people believe the same when they see the (R).

The Federal Government wants ever increasing surveillance power over its citizens, contrary to the Fourth Amendment. It doesn't matter who is in charge.

If you think the Democrats will fix this because of government transparency and civil rights, the record shows that you are mistaken.

If you think the Republicans will fix this because of small government and individual liberty, the record shows that you are mistaken.

The left wing Democrats are the real threats to personal freedom now. The two states that wanted a version of the iPhone that they could break into are the perpetually Democratic states of New York and California. I think the left has started to miss the old Soviet Union.

Of course, there will be no consequences to the (D) party in either state for them for doing this. Both states will continue to fetch majority (D) votes. Because a (D) said it, most of their voters will believe it, unquestioningly, and there will be no actual journalism critiquing how hypocritical it is to draft laws so antithetical to the party platform.

You can replace the (D) with an (R) in the above statement and it still holds true in majority-voter (R) states.

----

It's upsetting how stupid party politics makes people and how little self-policing happens. You would think the party that claims to be all for civil rights would actually have the most passionate and opposed voter base when they try to pull crap like this.

Not sure if your being serious, or not. In the event you are, keep reading.

That's like saying if terrorists are allowed to exist, this will only help innocent people die.

Whats to stop someone from using a third party app to encrypt their data? WhatsApp and others. It also wouldn't be that difficult to develop a groups own encryption software by using readily available libraries. If strong, backdoor-less encryption becomes illegal in the US, then grab software from another country.

Also, a phone thats easy to get into by the gov't won't be that easy to get into when its destroyed. Yanno, like the personal phones of the terrorists in question.

Time to get the hammer...
come and try, "big brother!"

Wow I had never
Last time I checked, the DOJ has operated under Obama for the last seven years, but don't let me interfere with your blatant left wing political bias.

Yeah, the Republicans have been fighting to not renew and outright ban The Patriot Act...

If "All powerful magic wand" isn't an intended euphemism, I don't know what is. Next up, Magic Wand Measuring.
[doublepost=1458088833][/doublepost]I'll stop using an encrypted phone as soon as the FBI does, too.

The Republicans back up Federal agencies regarding law enforcement and defense. The Democrats are the ones who force big government and Obama's administration has been instrumentally expanding the power of government in every facet it has touched. But yeah, keep talking down on the republicans. They are slowly becoming the only "real" americans left, as ironic as that sounds.

The counterargument to this is that if Apple is forced to proceed, innocent American's rights may likely be violated moving forward.

Also, if Apple's hand is forced, we will simply see those willing to harm americans using other technologies (ie those they can willfully encrypt themselves) to communicate.

My heart stands with you because the killing of innocent people is always appauling, but my head tells me that, in the long run, this is likely to do more damage than good.

Maybe this was simply a veiled leak of the Magic Mouse successor's name? :p

Take the time to read Apple's response even if you blow by the case cites and footnotes. The main text is quite instructive.

This administration is trying really hard to install a total police state by judicial order.

That violates each person's oath of office.

What court can I redress my grievances in without being a party in this case. I am a citizen.

What is the highest victory Apple can hope to achieve in this case?

Case dismissed with prejudice?
Court opinion completely invalidates the FBI's case?
Something else that prevents the FBI, or any bureaucracy, from trying this crap on other tech companies?

Politics sell the headlines, but I am interested in the procedures and possible outcomes.

Sure, Apple talks pretty glibly about due process and First Amendment rights, but what about the rest of us?

Who will protect us from the dormant cyber pathogen if the government doesn't get what they need?

This Apple vs FBI thing has become very entertaining. I can see all the hipsters and democrat supporters' heads spinning as their lovely administration and politicians are going against their lovely gadget maker. The administration calling Snowden a traitor was not enough.
The only thing left to tip the balance would be about LGBBTQQIAP. Let's say the FBI set up a false flag of needing to solve a crime against an LGBBTQQIAP and a locked iPhone is in the way...

I'm old enough to be raising a family, and the current news cycle is the most frightening thing I've ever witnessed in my life. I'm not being hyperbolic.

I have to disagree, the 1984 election year was far worse. Everyday being told that Nuclear war was going to happen if Reagan was re-elected. The Democrats in Washington, and New York media and Hollywood all in with Nuclear war propaganda, so much that America gave Reagan a 49 state win.
