I have to disagree, the 1984 election year was far worse. Everyday being told that Nuclear war was going to happen if Reagan was re-elected. The Democrats in Washington, and New York media and Hollywood all in with Nuclear war propaganda, so much that America gave Reagan a 49 state win.
I was never worried, Ronnie forgot where the button was anyway.

Not sure if your being serious, or not. In the event you are, keep reading.

That's like saying if terrorists are allowed to exist, this will only help innocent people die.

Whats to stop someone from using a third party app to encrypt their data? WhatsApp and others. It also wouldn't be that difficult to develop a groups own encryption software by using readily available libraries. If strong, backdoor-less encryption becomes illegal in the US, then grab software from another country.

Also, a phone thats easy to get into by the gov't won't be that easy to get into when its destroyed. Yanno, like the personal phones of the terrorists in question.

I say!
Fix the person (terrorist) not the tool (iPhone).

As the guy I am quoting is saying, the person will just find a better tool because they are smart like that. Why waste time fixing the tool, not the actual problem?

Anyone who wishes to cause harm to society will find a way eventually, it is impossible to stop them once they have crossed over to that type of thinking. All we can do is try to prevent more people supporting any type violence against humanity of any kind.

Obama administration paraphrased said:
Workplace violence by US citizens shall be treated as "Terrorism" (for a change) for the purpose of massive legal over-reach by a federally appointed community organizer. This is what happens when you fools elect a CO to be POTUS with excessive training in the Constitution and a strong desire to bypass and avert it.
No further comment needed.

This is fast becoming a competition to see who can use the most ear-catching analogy to defame the other side.

So far, I think Apple is winning.
I think John Oliver won TBQH. That ad was EVERYTHING! Even idiots can get it.

Let me know when depriving everyone of their privacy, brings them back from the dead.
The issue here is looking forward ten, fifty, 100 years from now. When we don't face her issues we are facing and yet the legal precedent has been set.

I did point out that if this does pass and apple is forced to decrypt this phone, terrorists can and will move on to self encrypted options. And then what? We have set a precedent whereby the government can demand a company produce something that doesn't exist, potentially allow the violation of people's privacy in the process, and gained very little in return.

Resulting and giving in to fear mongering are the first steps in havjbg a populous willingly give up their rights. Too many people have already died to give me and let me keep those rights. I personally choose not to take them lightly or for granted.

Also, if you'd like to continue the he discussion In a more professional manner without immediately resorting to a sarcastic quip, I'm happy to continue. Otherwise, this will be my last response.

This will end up in the Supreme Court. Apple will lose because Ginsberg, Sotomayor, Kagan, and Kennedy don't respect individual rights. A tie vote reverts the case back to the appellate court decision. And to think a lot of people cheered when Scalia died, he would have probably sided with Apple.
And, sadly, we cannot have his place filled now...
I do not intend to point finger, but just stating the facts...

Scary when a commercial company is the protector of citizens liberty and freedom against a criminal government.

Nuclear war was, in fact, a very great danger at the time:

hehe... i wish Siri would open the door .. (I can never find my keys when i need them :apple:)

So the key here is a "magic wand" so i best would describe the FBI as "Merlin the Magician"

I think the only scary thing here and probably the reason why Apple is arguing this is not so much as because security is up-most importance, its how the FBI phrased it to scare Apple (and everyone else)

FBI wants a 'backdoor', just hearing the word is enough to make your hair stand on end .

"A court hearing to address the issue is scheduled for next Tuesday, March 22, the day after Apple's media event where it is expected to introduce a new 4-inch "iPhone SE" and a new 9.7-inch iPad, as well as make a few additional announcements."

Tim Cook is going to be really busy next week.

I keep telling myself its just a coincidence the FBI case and WWDC event just all happens to be one day apart then ...

I think John Oliver won TBQH. That ad was EVERYTHING! Even idiots can get it.

It is hard to take anything he says seriously anymore.

I used to watch LWT with John Oliver a lot, and enjoyed it. I ignored occasional bias and sometimes totally one sided commentary because I thought it was was mostly funny and I really wasn't watching it to learn anything.

But, after the voting episode, John Oliver loses all credibility. Especially about the voter IDs. How can anyone take him seriously?

Apple vs Big Brother. Its like a prophecy coming true.

The weird thing about it is that Steve Jobs seemed to have some kind of aura about him that kept the evil ones at bay. Maybe it was his unbridled positivity.

I really like knowing my drug dealing and trafficking women data is secure and that Apple is protecting me and hampering law enforcement.
Since you confessed in writing, they no longer need the data in your phone to lock you up.

This case has nothing to do with individual rights. It is all about whether a large company can be forced to do something that is quite likely to cause huge damage to its business.

This Apple vs FBI thing has become very entertaining. I can see all the hipsters and democrat supporters' heads spinning as their lovely administration and politicians are going against their lovely gadget maker. The administration calling Snowden a traitor was not enough.
The only thing left to tip the balance would be about LGBBTQQIAP. Let's say the FBI set up a false flag of needing to solve a crime against an LGBBTQQIAP and a locked iPhone is in the way...

You were annoyed when you were grouped into a whole then turned around and did the same thing..o_O

I wasn't cognizant enough to know what was going on at that time to consider it for my statement, although I can see where you're coming from, of course!

I take him seriously because he makes well-reasoned and well-researched arguments. I don't trust him but I don't think anyone in the media can be trusted. Just like I don't trust people on the internet but I'm willing to listen to their arguments (if they have any).

Yep. Because everyone the government wants to look at is guilty.

Nothing like making non-sequitorious statements to incite. Great job.

The (D) is magical; it means that person is exempted from any criticism, can get away with murder, and must continue to be voted for and aggrandized at all costs.

It's crazy how some people are actually told this and then hold the belief like religion. Some people believe the same when they see the (R).

It has to be Bush's fault after all...

There's a (D) next to his name, and he was certainly the best candidate on offer (with a chance to win)... but make no mistake, Obama is essentially a moderate Republican. Just one with the wrong skin color...

Don't get me wrong. Although I would never have voted for Obama, and I don't support his presidency, because I believe he has been every bit as divisive as those he accuses on the other side I am not trying to make this an (R) vs. (D) thing. Just trying to illustrate that it is not. It's been obvious by listening to the idiot politicians over the last several weeks and months that there is plenty of lunacy on both sides of the aisle on this issue.
