This is nothing. I remember trying to get four (for work) 4's on Orange (now EE) and it took months. Weeks is nothing. Esp as the phone you are probably upgrading from works just fine. Then it was three Blackberrys and a Nokia (not smart phone).

Is it really that popular? Currently still showing 5-6 weeks for all models. I was thinking it would be a few months after like 10 minutes of the pre order starting.

Interestingly, it still shows shipping in 5-6 weeks, so the ratio of supply and demand seems to be matching by December.

Why do people care what Apple says or how they phrase it? There’s no point in them lying because all of this eventually gets reported out in their financials.

My point is that it's not a lie if it doesn't have any actual meaning.

As for why people care, that probably varies by the individual, but in general Apple is one of the biggest companies in the world, and they make highly desirable products. Some people might care because they really like Apple and want others to like them also; some people might care about Apple's future earning potential; some might like Android and feel the need to "compete". You probably care, too; otherwise, you'd probably spend your time reading something else.

So this sets the scene for next year iPhone X Plus starting at £1,199 for the 64GB version, and £1,399 for the 256GB version.

Not my point at all. The same costs can be incurred with the same company. Once locked into a contract, your position for the term of the contract are limited, unless you have the means to exit the contract. Not a loyalty issue at all.

And that is irrelevant. Seriously. Most people stick with a company whether or not they pay for the device in full. There is no interest with a payment plan. None. There is just a person sticking with a company they’d stick with anyway.

There is no downside to using a payment plan for most people and this judgmental crap from a lot of people here needs to end. It’s not even elitist, it’s ignorant.

this is complete nonsense. List all the other products in the history of commerce that sold approximately 100 of millions of units a year? Do you understand the manufacturing and distribution challenges that goes along with these incredible numbers?

I don't believe these challenges are unique to Apple, especially considering that they manufacture a large volume of just a few products. Apple's setup is actually ideal for ease of production, distribution, and profitability.

Mine ships Dec 19th. Don‘t care really. I think this is a fantastic phone and I can see all the reviews before I get mine. In that way I have plenty of time to cancel the order.

The X was flooded with pre-orders by flippers.

Even with an initial supply of 1M units sold out in <5min, that's >1B revenue in <5min (1M x >$1000/unit). With 60% margin, that's >600M profit. And it's more likely they globally sold well over 10M units within the first couple hours. That would be 6B profit on launch day alone.

Fair to call this off the charts...

It's not lying when they haven't actually said anything. It's like describing a film as "unbelievable", there are many ways and scales in which it can be interpreted. Also we won't really find out as they lump all iPhone sales numbers together when they report.

Anyone who has had the misfortune of working in marketing knows that the strategy of perceived demand is used to generate demand. It is one of the very first things they teach you. The original Audi R8 had a waiting list time of over a year, people will wait for a premium product and the companies use this. Same way as concerts are allowed to sell out before lo-behold, more dates are announced, due to high demand. Buy now, think later.

I truly find it astonishing that some people don't recognise this.

iPhone X pre-orders began at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time today and effectively sold out in just minutes. Orders placed now are estimated to ship in five to six weeks, pushing deliveries into early December.

While the shipping estimates aren't a reliable indicator of iPhone X sales without knowing how much supply is available, Apple issued a statement to MacRumors indicating that customer demand is "off the charts.""The surging shipment lead times around the iPhone X approach the very popular iPhone 6 Plus," said Brian White, an Apple analyst with Drexel Hamilton, in a research note obtained by MacRumors.

The comparison with the iPhone 6 launch doesn't tell us much since, again, we don't know how much inventory was available on each launch day.

Gene Munster, a longtime Apple analyst turned venture capitalist at Loup Ventures, said he views Apple's current five to six week shipping estimate as a sign that demand for the iPhone X is "trending more favorable than investor expectations."

Munster created a chart that visualizes exactly when the iPhone X shipping estimates changed throughout the early hours.

Leading up to iPhone X pre-orders, multiple reports suggested Apple's manufacturing partners were struggling to assemble the TrueDepth camera and 3D facial recognition system that powers Face ID.

For this reason, several industry observers said the iPhone X would be in extremely short supply until next year. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo forecasted there would just two to three million units available at launch.

Apple stopped releasing first weekend sales numbers for new iPhone models last year, as demand typically outweighs supply, so the company feels it is no longer a representative metric for investors or customers.

Customers that missed out on pre-orders or face a lengthy shipping estimate can try their luck at Apple Stores on November 3. Apple said stores will have the iPhone X available for walk-in customers on a first come, first served basis, and it suggested customers arrive early as it anticipates strong demand.

[doublepost=1509139391][/doublepost]I liked it better when the US market and a couple other countries had an opportunity to purchase First. To prevent backorders Apple would stagger their ordering to prevent this. As one that has been buying Apple products since 1978 I found it very frustrating to not be able to get onto apple's iPhone sales site. I had 2 computers and an iPad with the Apple App trying to get online. I finally was able to order around 5 minutes after midnight and my order was already showing 17th-24th delivery. It's hard for me to believe there were that many orders before mine. As a long time Apple Stock holder I am disappointed Apple would try this "Everybody order at once," when they knew they didn't have the inventory to support their orders. Then again, with them putting my delivery off a few weeks I will see it the X is worth it on Nov 3, I can always cancel. With their stock raising several dollars to day I'm also thinking about selling most of my stock before Nov 3.

Keep in mind Apple probably expects production to continue ramping up as time goes on, so we may not see it go out to months simply due to that.
Sorry but that's nonsense. Peak demand is day 1, after that it's about minimising the tail off. Ramping up now is too late, it's more about throttling back. They've had weeks to stock up, assuming the final product has been ready and the suppliers able for some time. This is Apple's core product and is the halo model at that, there will be nothing last minute / left to chance about the production of this - despite reports that get circulated.

[doublepost=1509142134][/doublepost]Will the Iphone X be available and Carrier stores on november 3? such as AT&T and Verizon Stores?

"nonsense"

"assuming"

Yeah, I'll just leave that there. Apple isn't only selling via apple.com; they have retail partners to stock throughout the rest of the year. Even if apple.com's peak demand is day 1, orders are still going to be incoming, and they still need to produce for that while producing for the rest of their retail channels. If they're to hit the 20m demand that they're expected to for the remainder of CY2017, and if it's true that they were only producing 400k phones per week 2-3 weeks ago as reported, then they aren't "throttling back" yet. We're working with what's reported, not making assumptions.

The part that’s a lie is that Apple said at 12:10 that ours was “reserved” for a 2-3 week shipment at 12:10 but to come back to complete things later. At 10:00 when they said to come back that changed to a 3-4 week shipment.

When they said my reservation would be honored, that was a lie.

Oh f*ck off Apple with your inane statements. You never post numbers so nobody ever actually knows how many you've sold. It's very easy to sell out of something you have f*ck all of in the first place.

This drivel is one of the many reasons I've left the ecosystem, it's become a company that is pretentious beyond words.

Come on Essential phone, up your game, you look and feel like the Apple I used to love

It's always good taking the first step. You managed to leave the ecosystem. The next brave step is to pull the plug on commenting on forums.
