We don’t know that. Rumors != fact.

When did Apple confirm manufacturing delays? Rumors != fact.

You are repeating yourself. And anything coming out of Tim Cook's mouth such as "off the charts" has no more credibility than rumors about manufacturing delays. Wild statements like that mean what? What was the chart we are off of? Maybe the chart was to sell 1M and they sold 2M.

For real, NO ONE seems to understand no company has to produce such complex devices at a rapid rate and volume such as Apple, it's actually incredibly impressive they get out millions of them so quickly

My gosh you people are amazing. Apple could literally ship a rock, and I think some people on here would praise them for it. Plenty of other companies build and ship complex devices at a rapid rate by the millions. Apple creates this drama because it drives their stock prices up. Since they haven't had a new design in a phone since the first iPhone 6 in 2014, its no wonder there is this pent up demand. They are responsible for not having enough supply, and for the pent up demand, and as a result they are gouging people with crazy prices and have people lining up to pay it. Its a wonderful thing for their profits.

Glad to see the X demand is as strong as everyone predicted. Not a surprise really. I'm holding off upgrading, just as I have for the past couple of years. It's not that I don't want a X, but in the past I had my kids all pushing me to upgrade so I was typically doing so every year so they could get my hand-me-down iPhone (back when they were much harder on their phones).

But two of the four are buying their own devices now, one just got a 7 a year ago and isn't really into any tech devices and my youngest definitely wants an upgrade from my old 6+ he's been using, but I think this year we'll get him a gift card and he can buy new and not have to live with an old device. And I'll start considering upgrading after the holidays when hopefully availability will start to open up.

Really Apple? Great way to let a cluster just buildup. I admit I’m pissed like a 3 year old about not getting launch day like tons of other people are but, they dropped the ball in a huge way.

No it wasn’t Apple’s fault but their name is all over it too. The damn website locked tons of us out for 15 minutes and we had NO chance. Never mind we took time out of our lives to be ready at a stupid ass moment only convenient for the west coast.
But on top of that, Verizon choked, Citizens One chokes too. Even better when they claim they can’t verify information that I TRIPLE checked was valid and correctly entered you get a nice email and all I hear is this “Our system effed up or we did and can’t double check your info. Go back to the end of the line instead of trying to sort your payment method out.”

Seriously? Go to hell..
Really hoping for a better solution in the future. I’ve been a very long time reader of macrumors and read forums for info. This is the first time I’ve been pissed enough that I went through the effort just to bitch.

I had issues with the AT&T verification and I paid full price for the phone! I didn't get my order in till 3:20am. For the life of me, why would I need to go through that step when I am paying freakin' full price up front??

I was extremely disappointed and frustrated. Did everything I could to ensure a quick process, only to repeatedly have Apple suddenly decide at the final confirmation, after I did the Apple Pay authentication, that my location in a residential subdivision in the far off land of Arizona, where I’d received prior orders, was not available for shipping, and I’d have to pick up at an Apple Store 200 miles away. Gave up once it was up to a five week wait.

The executives are laughing all the way to the bank. :D

Though I’ll admit - I would like one. But I’m working class poor.

Can you do basic arithmetic? If so you’d see that they are interest-free. Literally take out a calcalutor and multiply monthly payment amount by total number of months and compare that to an upfront purchase.

Possibly, but maybe he might be referring to hidden costs? I'll let him explain.

What’s funny is that I actually SAVE money on taxes by using T-Mobile’s JUMP! On-Demand leasing plan. I pay $0 down, the taxes are added to the monthly lease payment, so if i turn in the phone for a new one halfway through the lease, I’ve managed to pay prorated taxes and the rest of the balance is zeroed out.

It will be interesting to hear real numbers. Apple previously released such information saying in 2014 there were 4 million preorders placed in the first 24 hours and 10 million placed during the first three days the iPhone 6 was available. In 2015 the 6s had 13 million preorders during its first three days.

If the sales really are off the charts I expect Apple to be trumpeting major numbers of 20 million or more on Monday or Tuesday as they trounce the previous records. Tim Cook himself said expectations for the redesigned iPhone have kept sales numbers low the past couple of quarters as people deliberately postponed upgrading because they were waiting for the new phone.

An absence of numbers on Monday will be very telling. If they don't say something at least by their earnings call on Thursday then I have every expectation we'll see yet another comparative quarter decline in sales when they have their next earnings call in February.

Yes, the appearance of scarcity is a huge part of marketing theory. Companies like Samsung can make lots of different models, but Apple struggles to make enough of one single product (and it is not even a market-leading product in terms of volume)? The appearance of Scarcity has become an Apple NEED. Without it, their stock plummets and Cook loses some of his stock options.

No, this is not a loaf of bread in post-war Europe. Apple sales volumes, when they're announced by Apple, always exceed the blogosphere myths and legends that have arisen in between the announcements and the deliveries. Apple wants your money, not your expectations.

I for one think that the timing is actually pretty good. It is (estimated) average compared to past released. According to all the rumors, I was expecting ship dates to slip into 5-6 weeks within a matter of 5-10 minutes not a couple of hours into it, and probably 2-3 months within 6 hours, yet it is still 5-6 weeks. It is very pleasing news.
My guess is that the shipping dates won’t go much further than 5-6 weeks. Apple is planning on having production issues solved by then. If it goes any further, you can bet a lot of sales will be lost.

Can you substantiate that installment plans have interest? Because I’ve been on installment plans for the past 4 years and have paid nothing other than the cost of my phone divided by 24 months. It sounds like maybe you don’t know what you’re talking about.

Called locking you into a contract, if you do not actually have the money to buy iPhone. Thus they make the interest in capturing you as guaranteed income for two or more years. Let’s say the current vender or another has a new smoking deal, saves you $50 a month. You do not have the money to buy out the contract, so you either Loose the deal or they offer you another extension. Happens all the time. My example, you just lost some where near $1,200, might call that interest. If you actually have the money to buy out the iPhone, then your statement is valid. The trouble, a great percentage do not. Number one financial rule, no company offers anything free. You just do not know how they are taking advantage of you.

All the carrier-specific models come with a pre-installed SIM. To provision the SIM, they obviously need your account information.

Careful. You might pull a muscle reaching that hard...

No Sheet Sherlock.....website/Apple Store App was down here for the first 5 minutes and by the time I could get on, 256GB was already sold out for delivery on Nov 3 (est. 2-3 weeks) in both colours. I'll have to troll my way to the Apple Store
Why didn't you just opt for delivery to the Apple Store? It took me 10-15 minutes to get on the app and shipping was by 11/17 at that point, but delivery to the store was 11/3, which was my preference anyway.

This is honestly such a big part of their marketing. Constraining supply to increase demand, not only in the short term but for the product as a whole.

Imagine if the iPhone was readily available to pick up? It removes the “exclusivity” of it very quickly.

Edit: They are of course having manufacturing issues, but even if they weren’t, you know they’d issue the same statement.
And you know they're constraining supply how?
