"Munster created a chart [ . . . ]"
I call B.S. on gene's chart. i got into the store between 12:02:30 and 12:03:30. i ordered an unlocked/T-Mobile space gray 256GB device. the headers of the confirmation email show a date of "Fri, 27 Oct 2017 07:04:51 +0000 (GMT)" and already the ship time was 2-3 weeks.
the experience of this "analyst" is no more valid than the experience of users in this forum. in fact, macrumors should in some way formalize the presentation of its users' collective experiences and start selling that as research notes from their brand-spankity new VC firm.
huh? the headline isn’t based off of selling off all the available supply. This is ROFL material. Its a headline that pre-orders are "off the charts" and based on sell outs..
Feels like the same kind of crap shoot trying to buy San Diego Comic Con passes![]()
Were you constantly reloading and killing the apple store app or just closing and reopening it? I opened/killed for about 15-18 minutes, then once in I got an error maybe half a dozen times but kept trying until it went through, never exited the app once I got in. By that time, delivery was 11/17, but to the store was 11/3, so I was psyched.Crap. 17 after is about when my order went through, and that's when it slipped from November 3rd. I blame the crappy Apple Store App that us iPhone Upgrade Program members were forced to use this year. The website came up for me fine but I couldn't get that damn app to load until I rebooted my device. Even so it gave me a bunch of errors and I didn't receive any confirmation email until nearly four hours after launch.
I'm super irritated because I woke up on time and everything. It was supposed to be a simple button press to confirm everything that I was already pre-approved for. When is Apple going to let us iPhone Upgrade Program members opt-in for yearly upgrades? I want an email the week before where I can just set what I want and then have it show up on launch day. I want it to be like a subscription service.
Lol....that's what happens when you have a short supply.
Called locking you into a contract, if you do not actually have the money to buy iPhone. Thus they make the interest in capturing you as guaranteed income for two or more years. Let’s say the current vender or another has a new smoking deal, saves you $50 a month. You do not have the money to buy out the contract, so you either Loose the deal or they offer you another extension. Happens all the time. My example, you just lost some where near $1,200, might call that interest. If you actually have the money to buy out the iPhone, then your statement is valid. The trouble, a great percentage do not. Number one financial rule, no company offers anything free. You just do not know how they are taking advantage of you.
Just got mine a couple minutes ago.Anyone else still waiting for that email about the reservation?
Surely the only metric that counts for Apple is units delivered, i.e. bookable revenue?
Yes, of course. Apple has no interest in making and recording sales as quickly as possible. And if some potential sales go to Samsung and google, it's all good.
Not my point at all. The same costs can be incurred with the same company. Once locked into a contract, your position for the term of the contract are limited, unless you have the means to exit the contract. Not a loyalty issue at all. That’s not interest. That’s called sticking with a company. Some of us don’t want to go through the hassle of jumping from carrier to carrier and would stick with what we have because it provides the most consistent service.
Yes, the appearance of scarcity is a huge part of marketing theory. Companies like Samsung can make lots of different models, but Apple struggles to make enough of one single product (and it is not even a market-leading product in terms of volume)? The appearance of Scarcity has become an Apple NEED. Without it, their stock plummets and Cook loses some of his stock options.
huh? the headline isn’t based off of selling off all the available supply.
Apple simply said demand is off the charts.
don’t confuse the other charts in the OP with what Apple said.
No Sheet Sherlock.....website/Apple Store App was down here for the first 5 minutes and by the time I could get on, 256GB was already sold out for delivery on Nov 3 (est. 2-3 weeks) in both colours. I'll have to troll my way to the Apple Store
I and many of us preordering do not buy iPhones because they are exclusive. Rather than not being able to get on day one is very frustrating, but we get them because for us they are the best phones available for our needs and desires and willing to pay a premium since still a 'value' when considering how much we use them and how we use them. This is honestly such a big part of their marketing. Constraining supply to increase demand, not only in the short term but for the product as a whole.
Imagine if the iPhone was readily available to pick up? It removes the “exclusivity” of it very quickly.
Edit: They are of course having manufacturing issues, but even if they weren’t, you know they’d issue the same statement.
You're not getting one?Beta testers will make my iPhone X better.
