And to be honest, I get why Apple said something since they decided to make their 'approval' part of the marketing.

Fair but Apple shouldn’t be surprised because they’ve decided to leave themselves injected as part of the process

That approval template language needs work

Remember, developers in the EU don’t have free will. It is illegal for developers in the EU to NOT deliver their app to the Apple App Store as one of the two government sponsored mobile app store markets. Any developer NOT developing for the 12% of folks with iPhones in the EU could face SEVERE fines for ignoring an insignificant sliver of marketshare.

Apple has warned multiple times that the DMA would make objectionable, harmful, and illicit content available to consumers.
Apple of course have no issues with gambling Apps because they get a cut of that sweet juice
This is the same Apple that's planning to advertise on Twitter/X again... a place full of objectionable, harmful, and illicit content that's easily available to consumers.

Yep … lots of projection and hypocrisy all around

As a European citizen, this Porn app or the whole AltStore debacle makes me so sad. They sold us freedom of choice, but all we got is a crappy new store with a porn app and a game emulator. Is this the best developers can do when the walled garden is torn down? Don’t make me laugh.

Please, EU, give me a real choice. The choice to keep everything the way it was! Nobody is using it. Give it two years, and it will be completely dead.

The reasons why the EU was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize:
  • advanced peace, reconciliation, democracy and human rights in Europe
  • promoted friendly relations between the former archenemies Germany and France
  • did away (or tried at least) with the division between east and west and settled many ethnically based national conflicts
  • contributed to reconciliation in the Balkans in the aftermath of the wars there and the dissolution of Yugoslavia
  • promoted pornography and pirated games to the people
Well deserved.

This should not be about porn. Alternative stores can do whatever they are allowed under EU law. It is about misuse of the trademark doing damage to brand.

Apple should sue both the AltStore and app maker to oblivion in order to show example on misusing their trademark for endorsement.

Also, Apple should not notarize that developers future updates due to them breaking the terms of service on false endorsements. Let them countersue to force Apple notarize years from now when appeal courts have done their work.

Oh come on. Are you seriously suggesting that Apple not scan apps for malware?

If Apple actually did that half of MacRumors would be screaming "malicious compliance! Apple is trying to make third party app stores cesspools that no one will use".

That's what these people want. They want freedom more than safety for non-technical users.

And McDonalds has a monopoly on distribution of Big Macs to consumers. That's not actually a monopoly.
A Big Mac „runs“ just as well in a Burger King.
It‘s not as if it were specifically developed or made for McDonald‘s.

And there‘s many suppliers of different hamburgers. 🍔
Not just just varieties that control what… 98 per cent of the market?

Most consumers benefit from one single, safe place to download apps. For those who don't benefit, Android exists.
No disagreement from me. I obviously wasn‘t speaking of that when saying some of Apple‘s actions are customer-hostile.

If the EU didn't want Apple charging developers for using Apple's property they should have actually nationalized it instead of trying to be cute and force them to give it away for free.
There are - just in other industries or services - benefits in having competing firms on a market in providing such services.

And had Apple done so, you and half of MacRumors wouldd be complaining that Apple is making it impossible to install third party apps safely
Not at all

Other competing app review, verification and auditing services could have emerged.

I‘ve just (over the weekend) migrated from iOS to an Android phone, so I now know what I‘m talking about 😉

Of course they have.

You, me, or that app maker are just not allowed to use worlds most valuable trademark for endorsement without owners permission.

Apple itself stated to the developer that they "approved" the App. This doesn't mean Apple is giving "approval" in the sense of "praise or commendation": the problem is that "approval" has multiple meanings.

In this case the meaning used is actually "formal permission or sanction" and the developer is 100% correct in stating that the App has obtained Apple's "approval": Apple itself explicitly uses the term in their official communication.

People need to understand the difference between "approving of" something morally/ethically and "approved for distribution in accordance with laws enforced on Apple by the EU".

Ahh so it's a morality issue?

Do Apple see no moral issue with gambling, profanity, glorification of gang violence/firearms (in a lot of the music they promote on Apple Music) ?

Apple is choosing to remain operational in the EU

If this is such an offense to all they hold dear they are welcome to pull out anytime

Remember all the "free market" stuff?

They can leave!
Nobody is forcing Apple to stay

Apple can absolutely not have an issue with profanity and have an issue with hardcore pornography. It’s their platform, they should get to decide what runs on it.

So it’s technically approved by the European Commission. If it’s not available on the Apple App Store, it is not endorsed by Apple. You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to work that out.

adults should be allowed to enjoy what they want. It’s like saying driving a car is bad because a toddler might accidentally get locked inside a car by themselves.
I 100% agree. There should be restrictions or blocks for under 18, however once you're legally an adult, then have at it!
