Wouldn’t the map be constantly changing?

Ya... I dunno anyone that would stare at a phone straight on *all the time*

I mean, at some stage u gotta look off-axis right? That is a bit hard to do when driving, unless you want to be distracted by your phone. Hopefully it won't be so dim, you cannot see the map.

Higher caliber means no burn in ?
How did you infer this ?

Chill out, burn in a OLED technology problem, iPhone X screen is not going to burn in earlier than Samsung OLED screen, they just have to document it so that some one down the lane doesn’t sue them in court. If you read Samsung note 8 document you will find this in fine print too.

Video will not cause image burn in because image is not static.
So would pictures be considered static?

Funny how these non real problem only make headlines when it's about Apple, people must really not care about any other device...

Kind of odd. Maybe the Note 8 has a different kind of OLED screen? It has neither of these issues.

Interesting, cause I could have sworn that Samsung actually made a statement saying burn in was a possibility. Also if you just do a simple google search, you will notice that there are actually people complaining about burn in on the Note 8. The fact is, all OLED screens have minimal burn in.

And the 1080P screen on my 8+ keeps looking better and better.

Last time I had to worry about burn in, it was with a plasma, and it’s a freakin hassle. Just give me a screen that doesn’t have it.

You can have image persistence issue on LCD which is even worst...point is, in both cases you really need to display the same images for hours and hours, I only saw it twice, one Dell display and a Cinema Display 24"

Yes, but it’s much much more common on certain technologies, such as oled. I’ve never seen it on an iPhone, (until now). Saw it on the RMBP in 2012, and some iPad 3’s the difference is then it’s a warranty problem and can be switched out, here it’s a “common occurrence”

It is an issue in ANY display technology, CRT, Plasma, LCD and OLED even tho in LCD it's not technically a burn in.
Simply not good to leave a display for hours with the same image, this is why screensaver exist or why most TV channel logos change position time to time.

Google lcd image persistence and check how ugly can get on a monitor

The technical paper on Apples version is what I am interested in reading. Awaiting eagerly. :)
It should be fascinating, and I have to admit I didn’t even think of Apple’s habit to release new, then rapidly evolve. You may be right with a 120hz display and whatever other tweaks are in store for their gen 2.

Yeah... If it is that easy then Apple could just get others to manufacture the oled since Apple had all the tech and manufacturing process resolved.

Sorry to say Apple just skim on cost and got the lower end s6 generation type oled used in other mid range Samsung (or a customized version of it). The newer generation oled used in s7/s8 don't have such pronounced colour shift. Also they have better the viewing angle as well.
Apples panels are simply not Samsung’s leftovers, that’s a ridiculous misunderstanding of mass manufacturing processes.

Sure and Plasma were even worse....I still believe it's a non issue, especially with phones, since you are not likely to have a stati image for hours....
Also the article specific in tilted angles...so it's something you need to look for it, so much that so far no one really notice it too much on other devices, I do have it on my old PS vita and it's definitely super hard to notice and really a non issue.

Just in case I haven't already said it. I'm very very happy with my new iPhone 8 Plus. The only thing that is missing is a headphone jack. Thank god it has no FaceID.

BS. You should have seen all the snarky and greater than thou attitudes folks had on here with the article about pixel burn in. Now that it's about Apple, it's surprising how many defenders there are.

It does not matter if it's an Apple "fan" or "Hater" to be silly, it's still silly in both case.
I was never annoyed with samsung pixel clickbait here I would have posted the same.
We live in a world were a phone brand it's enough to hate someone this is just how miserable and pathetic the human beens are....I'm just stating a fact, this is a non real issue but people are free to fight for it it's their right and I'm happy for everyone to enjoy their time in the best of their abilities.

It was just my opinion based on fact and experience, no need to call BS on it, feel free to fuel the thread!

iPhone X users are customers for App developer, so you do what ever is needed to make them happy, if you don’t then they will not download your app.

Developers go where they stand to make the most revenue on the most devices in the wild. How many iPhone X are in the public’s hands compared to pre AMOLED models.

It took developers years to update they apps for the 4.7” and 5.5” screen sizes, as most apps were still sporting the 3.5” and a healthy sum supporting the 4” screen sizes.

I believe you are being overly optimistic to believe that developers are going to immediately update apps to overcome a hardware shortcoming that is of no fault of the developer, however for Apple to incorporate into iOS for all apps.

With the language Apple is using in this released document “normal behaviour” it comes across that even if your expensive phone has these issues, it will not be replaced and the loyal customer has to live with it.

During the keynote Apple specifically highlighted that its OLED meets its high standards, I presume image retention, burn-in and colour shifts is the acceptable high standards of Apple. Maybe Apple should refrain from making exaggerated claims and be truthful post keynote and prior to release that some inherent AMOLED shortcomings still exist and being worked on. Plus with the increase in AppleCare for screen replacement this screen should have none of the drawbacks of the present LCD screens, however boosts the contrast ratio.

If an iPhone 2018 was released with 2 hrs less battery life compared to the iPhone 7 and charge a premium would you still consider it an advancement or technology stalled.
