Have you seen it? I have... mine is noticeable and I’m bringing it into Apple. Also google pixel went through a similar issue recently and made news.

Yup I did, just like I did saw plenty of mobile oled screen and it’s not an issue for me, I tend to use the device facing me, If I tilt my iPad it become darker and ava pannel tv become greysh and yet I’m alive!

I have/had numerous OLED devices and also Hands on experience with OLED TVs (also plasma and various LCDs) so I have a pretty good idea how better OLED is vs old tech which is LCD.
the only issue of OLED is image retention which in theory is a problem but in reality it's minor a very small price for the advantages of OLED.there is difference between good and tunes OLED and the ones that are not properly tuned and oversaturated.
the OLED in iPhone X is excellent, it's tuned and there is no over saturated colour or such.
It really doesn't matter how some nay sayer still feel,Apple has finally moved on to OLED finally and its the BEST thing about iPhone X. ;)
Oh boy here we go with the anecdotal evidence rather than scientific hard facts. Thanks for the laughs

All the panels in my house are OLED with the exception of ipads. No matter what marketing ******** Apple is saying about iPhone display, the truth is that burnin and retention it’s inherent to the technology and they can’t do anything about it.
I’ve seen the iPhone in store and I believe that off axis color shift is due to screen coating and older display. I’m guessing that they’ve bought an 3 year old panel from Samsung and changed the color mapping, which is a known practice that Apple is doing for quite some time. Side by side with an S8 the difference is evident, disregarding the fact that S8 is almost twice as bright. I hope that the next iPhone iterations will be on par with Samsung, but I wouldn’t hold my breath, since Samsung makes the best mobile displays and they will always reserve their best for their flagships.

To me this is a real bummer, as I am really OCD about this ****. I got the burn in on all my Samsung devices after a few months. Granted, it was only obvious when I was looking for it. But it was there nonetheless. I specifically went with the 8 Plus this year because of Touch ID and the almost perfect LCD.

But I think it will be the last iPhone to come with an LCD and I am really not looking forward to 2018 :(

Conversely ive not had burn in on any of my OLED panel phones and i've owned alot of them. My current S8+ has had alot of static images left on it as well, I've really not been careful to avoid it and its still perfect 6 months later.

Not worried tbh. Been using my S8+ since April and I’ve experienced 0 burn in
Same here, but keep in mind that S8 has a panel 2 or 3 generations ahead of the one in iPhone. Eventually the screen will get burnin, but by that time you will probably change your phone anyway.

From now on:
Only look in front of the screen to avoid color shift,
And don’t use apps more than 15 minutes on screen to avoid burn in.
simple.

I was going to buy an X, but I decided to get two Samsung 55" 4K UHD Smart TV's instead. No animated excrement, but that's the life choice I made.

It‘s not a bug - it‘s a feature. They‘ll call it the "memory display".
BurnInKit API coming soon.

Huh, when the Google Pixel 2 XL was shown to have this issue, this was a problem...

I noticed this shift in color earlier and I was worried that my iPhone X was doing the same **** the Pixel 2 is doing haha

Apple fans used to loath AMOLED displays for this reason all these 8-9 years since Samsung first introduced it in its first edition of Galaxy Mobile. This is the reality for those who parted $1500 for this mobile, learn to live with it!!

well I know people who owned Samsung phones for years (with OLED display) and even if there was some burn in it wasn't noticeable / problematic at all.so I wouldn't worry.same goes for any slight shift in colour in angle.(if that's even noticeable)

all I can say is,I just got the iPhone X and immediately it's evident how much superior OLED screen is compared to even 7 Plus which had one of the best LCD displays.

I played a video on youtube simultaneously on both X and 7 Plus and 7 Plus was instantly and visibly defeated by much more rich and higher quality of the OLED on iPhone X.

The blacks on 7 Plus look like a joke compared to blacks on OLED of X.blacks look dark-grey-greeenish on 7 Plus whereas on X they are beautiful pitch black.
as it should be.

OLED is simply superior display tech.and everything looks noticeably better.no matter what.

Are you saying that Apple has been using inferior display all these years? Because OLED displays have been implemented in mobiles for more than 8-9 years and was quite popular in other premium brands.

Wait.. What? If you need eagle like sight to see burn in, it is not an issue..

Plasma displays were some of the worst offenders for burn in. They resolved that by using software management. Same as Apple has claimed to have done. My plasma is at least 8 years old and is perfect. Made by Samsung btw.. People who use their devices normally won't have an issue. If you have the display set to sun, and you have a sharp image on multiple hours at a time, you may see an issue.

My Panasonic 50 inch Plasma is 9 years old, no burn in at all. It also still produces far better and real looking pictures than a lot of LCD screens out there. The LCD's may be retina burning bright but does n't make them better, just couldn't plasma screens bezel less and super thin. Not sure what I will get when this dies.

laugh as much as you want, you are stuck in the past.with a single side by side comparison OLED shows superiority vs LCD.only a partially blind person or an arrogant will try to deny it.it’s like saying sun is not brighter than moon..where are your scientific hard facts? send Apple also a copy.(and to all other companies who are implementing this tech) :D

Whatever you say Captain Kodak.

Publicly known by tech geeks maybe, but not by Joe Consumer, who is buying the iPhone X and has never seen an OLED screen before.

Apple is clearly trying to minimize the support requests and genius bar visits with this dubiously timed post-purchase PSA.

Well, you know, before I spend 1000 $ on a phone I will make sure it’s worth it

That includes doing some basic research available for anyone who cares to look for it or stopping by an Apple store to check out the phone including the screens viewing angle, contrast, brightness, response time etc or just asking some tech geek who knows better ..

Oled ain’t new technology , just don’t buy if you don’t like it

Apple is just being Apple : a company trying (and succeeding) to sell stuff at the highest price possible people are still willing to pay

I thought even with apple care the price for a screen replacement was 100$
  • "Coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage,(2) each subject to a service fee of $29 for screen damage, or $99 for any other damage, plus applicable tax". - From AppleCare + service and support.

People, people, please. "Why didn't Apple tell us this before launch?" Are you serious? People have been bitching about why iPhone doesn't have OLED and NOW they're bitching about screen burn-in? OLED, like many other types of displays are susceptible to burn-in. We're lucky that iOS can simply fade to black when not in use and there's no clock or other image constantly on. There is no screenburngate as this is common in Android phones as well.

Yep, you are saying Samsung phones have had way better displays than the ilhone for the past 8 years.
Hopefully you’ve been consistent and noted on these forums how inferior the iphone display was all those years.

I've been following screen technologies since "burn in" was first discovered as an issue and "screen savers" invented as a solution. Admittedly I haven't been on top of everything deeply of late, but...my understanding has been that "burn in" was a non-issue for OLED precisely because, being a gazillion tiny LEDs, it just couldn't be an issue.
Just to clear the issue up: the reason OLEDs exhibit the behaviour is because the LEDs have a long, but finite lifespan and degrade slowly over time. So, for example, if you were to display blue text on the screen for days, you might notice on a gray background that you would see where that text was. The reason you're seeing it is because the blue LEDs in that region are dimmer than the surrounding blue LEDs.

In practice, it's not something I've noticed on my OLED screens for many years, but I'm sure you could find it if you really looked for it.

"Burn In's are normal"? Tell that to a judge. Im willing to spend the cost on a case to get it replaced under warrenty if that happens, because im pretty sure they wont have any grounds to defend themselfs.

burn-in is a well documented shortcoming of OLED displays, so I'm pretty sure they have a good foot to stand on.
