This is one of the major reasons why I’m passing on the X. There’s a lot of new technology here and I’m guessing the Xs (or whatever they call next years version of the X) will address any major issues that arise if the issues are addressable via corrections to the hardware.

That’s why I’ve always liked the “s” releases. You don’t have the latest and greatest but if major issues (or very annoying minor ones) arise you can bet they’ll be addressed in the next hardware rev if it’s posible. Burn in is an issue that perhaps won’t be able to be addressed in next years rev but at least we’ll have a good idea of how frequently it occurs and whether or not it’s covered under either Apples warranty or the carriers insurance plans.

Higher caliber? Samsung is making it and the one on the note 8 and even S8 and S8 plus are better numbers wise.

Lol, the doubling of brightness is iPhone Series 2 (2018 model). You better believe it, hence its not worth upgrading this year, plus 15W fast Qi charging. All this is available on the Note 8 and S8 today.:p:D

Typical of Apple when something ain't right to say it is and that its perfectly fine.

I can say I never once had image retention or burn in on ANY Samsung galaxy I've owned, not once!

What also disappoints me is this is gonna be my first iOS device / iPhone and mine is scheduled to be delivered by the 24th. News like this really really gets me.

Such an Apple biased spin here lol. Doubling the brightness? And 15w fast charging? You work for Apple? No? So you have no clue.

The iPhone double brightness I very much doubt Lmao. The 7 had a 500 nit screen and the x has a 645 nit brightness? Don't remember specs but I know it's around 600. The note 8 has a 1,200 nit screen and probably be better for the 9.

All thus being said 600 nits is fine and I'll be happy with the x once I get my hands on one.

Thanks, it's been a while since I last read about microLED and I wasn't sure. Maybe eventually Apple will use mLED for future iPhones. I have a feeling that's the plan and OLED is just temporary (for a couple of years).

Apple bought a mLED company not too long ago. It's only a matter of time before Apple makes it's own iPhone displays. After that there won't be a reliance on Samsung anymore.

I wouldn't be worried about it. Apple fans are just trying to fan the smoke into a fire.

Ya I get what you're saying.. But if you take Apple at face value, they waited until they were confident that their display was as good as technology allows before they adopted. Other companies could be accused of rushing to market with technology that suffered from inherent issues..

Samsung sure seems to be an innovator when it comes to features.. It's a shame that it looks as though Apple is always playing catch up..
Samsung is producing the AMOLED screens used in the iPhone X, however the brightness on the S8 and Note 8 are double of the iPhone X. Want to make a friendly wager that iPhone series 2 (2018 model) will double the brightness, effectively providing what Samsung has on the market today.

Samsung has an advantage in certain hardware fields, their implementation of features lacks refinement. Apple prolongs adopting technology that the competition has, however their implementation is refined, i.e. A series processors, battery, etc.

Just because they have their own display company doesn't mean they will have the manpower or right facilities to produce the amount of displays for iPhones. They will have to depend on some company even if they move away from Samsung.

Lol you keep saying this but with no proof

All OLED has burn in. Not sure why people are surprised. You guys begged for OLED. Well you got it!

My PS Vita has an OLED screen and when it’s dark, there are darker areas that are noticeable.

Comes with the territory with OLEDs.

There’s also a big difference between image persistence and permanent burn in.

Lol, I don’t have to work for Apple to read a product tech spec webpage ;):p:D

Sources: http://www.Apple.com/

iPhone 7 brightness:

  • 625 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
iPhone 8 brightness:

  • 625 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
iPhone X brightness:

  • 625 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)

iPhone 8 and X Qi Charging:

Reported as 7.5W

Galaxy Note 8 brightness:

1200 nits and 15W Qi Charging.

Brightness matters for outdoors usability and clarity. I get it, you have convinced yourself that you require a new device for the holiday season or you will be less of an individual when among your social group/s. ;)o_O:D

Lol you keep saying this but with no proof

The proof is listed on Apples website, are you having difficulty locating this information for yourself, or just under the influence of some substance. :p

So, this is how they treat "it's the first OLED display great enough to be in an iPhone..." )))))

I'm totally happy waiting for the launch & gonna go buy iPhone 8. Was avoiding OLED android phones for years. Now it's time to avoid iphone.

Yes. That is what I was saying.. Perhaps the lower nits of brightness is to help mitigate burn in..

We've been saying this with android for years. Burn in will inevitably happen and the screen will change color when you tilt it. Burn in did not happen in my Note 3 until over 3 years later. The tilt required to see the difference on my V30 is pretty extreme. So it's not really an issue.

Yea, how dare Apple be restrained by the laws of physics and modern manufacturing processes?
Next year Apple releases iPhone X series 2 (2018 model), aka Samsung Note 8 display specs.

Thank you for clarifying your reasoning. :)

Time will tell, how many people may be affected. If Apple releases the 2018 model and doubling the nits, then what? ;)

Apologies, if it is coming across that I am targeting you. I mean no harm

"I desperately want to feel better about OLED despite the fact that there are glaring issues that make it in some ways worse than LCDs"
I have/had numerous OLED devices and also Hands on experience with OLED TVs (also plasma and various LCDs) so I have a pretty good idea how better OLED is vs old tech which is LCD.
the only issue of OLED is image retention which in theory is a problem but in reality it's minor a very small price for the advantages of OLED.there is difference between good and tunes OLED and the ones that are not properly tuned and oversaturated.
the OLED in iPhone X is excellent, it's tuned and there is no over saturated colour or such.
It really doesn't matter how some nay sayer still feel,Apple has finally moved on to OLED finally and its the BEST thing about iPhone X. ;)

Out of curiosity, how much did you spend on your V30 when your purchased it?

That is the difference, why Apple fans are picky, they hold Apple to a higher standard as Apple holds themselves and they charge accordingly, that the loyal fans pay and expect no less. :D
