Kind of odd. Maybe the Note 8 has a different kind of OLED screen? It has neither of these issues.
i think youre mistaken. The Note 8 is probably at least equally susceptible, if not more so. The Galaxy S8 definitely is and Samsung will tell you that.

You can't even spell "warranty" or use punctuation, doubt you can afford any litigation.

In any case, burn-in is a well documented shortcoming of OLED displays, so I'm pretty sure they have a good foot to stand on.
We'l see then! And that you may be better in english doesn't mean a single thing. I can communicate in my first launguage just fine.

Yeah, sorry about that, I realised after posting that it was a stupid comment.

Good luck with your impending trial.

Reading all this on my X. It is true, the off axis color shift is not good and turns blue in a minor, maybe 15 degree angle. The LCDs have waaaaaay better off axis / wider angle viewing performance than this. I was really impressed with the viewing angle since... I don’t know when they did IPS...my iPod Touch maybe? Can’t remember exactly, but it sure did seem like they had about 170 degree viewing angle.

I know this “part of deal” with OLED, but even that said, I’m a little surprised Apple shipped it like this. Maybe they could even fix it with software where the accelerometer senses your viewing angle change and fakes the colors to cancel the shift. I don’t know. Not being a diva here, but this blue shift could make me return it.

The hardware is so dang nice otherwise though.

My Note 8 definitely does NOT have color shift at 15 degrees. You have to turn it nearly sideways to get any bluish shift. I've not held an X to compare.

Yep, you are saying Samsung phones have had way better displays than the ilhone for the past 8 years.
YES.
iPhone displays were some of the very best LCD displays in business, but Samsung had the best OLED panels in their flagships.and OLED is superior to LCD in nature anyway.

I have/had multiple devices some with OLED and many Apple devices (iPads, iPhones,MacBooks) and there is no debate OLED is superior, visibly and instantly.no buts or ifs.

Lol, I don’t have to work for Apple to read a product tech spec webpage ;):p:D

Sources: http://www.Apple.com/

iPhone 7 brightness:

  • 625 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
iPhone 8 brightness:

  • 625 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
iPhone X brightness:

  • 625 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)

iPhone 8 and X Qi Charging:

Reported as 7.5W

Galaxy Note 8 brightness:

1200 nits and 15W Qi Charging.

Brightness matters for outdoors usability and clarity. I get it, you have convinced yourself that you require a new device for the holiday season or you will be less of an individual when among your social group/s. ;)o_O:D
[doublepost=1509751237][/doublepost]

The proof is listed on Apples website, are you having difficulty locating this information for yourself, or just under the influence of some substance. :p
Lol because I care so much I'm going to their website. At 600 nits the iPhone screen is fine for outdoor brightness.

Lol inferior to social groups what are we in high school? Nobody cares if you have an iPhone or an Android device. And if they care I wouldn't be want to be around them anyways.

So there is proof that Apple is going to increase the next iPhones brightness? Really? Where show me. No? Cause there isn't.

It's so funny seeing Apple fanboys calling all this out for no reason while all the people who can rationalize is defending Apple ( well most). Apple doesn't have an issue with these screens. The language is just there so they can say it so you guys can't go to Apple suing them.

This.

Sigh. It's been a long time since I purchased the last "Cutting Edge" Apple product. I thought I had learned a long time ago these "early adopter" frustrations from buying Apple's first releases of their newest products and tech. This off axis color shift is one of the most surprising disappointments in memory for me, but the feeling of disappointment in a product that is otherwise so incredibly well done... seems so familiar now.

In the past, I have always been rewarded through patiently waiting for Apple to make things right. They always have. But things feel different right now and I don't know why. Maybe because I've been reading so much hate on these forums lately? Or maybe it's because the 512GB eSATA drive on my 2016 MacBook that is just 3 weeks out of warranty failed and Apple is okay with telling me that "these things regrettably happen", and I'm stuck with a $1300 paperweight because they designed and built it unrepairably.

I'm frustrated right now. But glad I've at least got a couple of weeks to think.

Not defending Apple, but politely asking: Isn't the minor burn in and blue display off axis common knowledge with OLED screens though? And it's still quite fresh since the Pixel 2 XL got seriously slammed for these issues.

Rather shifty of Apple to mention it AFTER the phone is released and many, many folks buy, but that's Tim Cook's :apple: for you. And as others astutely pointed out, why AC+ costs more. That's pretty crappy though. Apple will make even more money on a flaw that is inherent to this screen.

The burn ins that would annoy me to no end. Blue Shift probably would too.

This is another reason why I tend to wait with Apple now (I didn't with the iPad Pro 2nd gen, but more often than not I do now.)

Ugh @dannynjoni sorry to hear about your 2016 MacBook drive. Perhaps if you write Tim Cook politely he can have his team do something for you?

"I desperately want to feel better about OLED despite the fact that there are glaring issues that make it in some ways worse than LCDs"
Except, it's NOT an issue for the majority of people who have used it. You guys need to stop acting like this is something that happens more often than not, it doesn't.

Apple did say that they OLED is of a higher caliber compared to the present OLED on the market, and now we get this reveal. It comes across as double talk from good old Apple marketing.
OF COURSE Apple said it. It's a Samsung OLED, it's nothing special.

I’m reading here and LMAO at the surprised responses of the clueless. You wanted OLED, you got it. Oh, no one told you about the downside of the technology? ALL OLED screens have these issues! It’s the nature of the beast. It’s the price you pay for your pretty display. For years you screamed that Apple was behind Samsung in display technology. Well, now you have a Samsung OLED screen in your iPhone X and you will deal with burn in and hue shifting like every other OLED device. Welcome to the world of OLED.

Google is telling Pixel 2 owners it’s normal. Now Apple is too. And the beat goes on.

Hahaha, I knew this would happen. Anything that isn't normal Apple calls normal. LOL! "You're holding it wrong". Now this.
[doublepost=1509749149][/doublepost]
But my friends s7 edge has tons of burn in. Depends how you use it and how bright you have the brightness. He always had his brightness up a lot.
[doublepost=1509749224][/doublepost]
Umm no.

From YOUR article :

However, Apple has shown that it does not want to be the actual manufacturer, instead licensing or leasing its equipment to Chinese factories like Foxconn or Pegatron. This seems to be what is happening here with the OLED situation.

well I know people who owned Samsung phones for years (with OLED display) and even if there was some burn in it wasn't noticeable / problematic at all.so I wouldn't worry.same goes for any slight shift in colour in angle.(if that's even noticeable)

Have u tried typing with one hand? Or reach for corners of the sceen? The minute you shift X off axis the hue jumps like crazy. I am using the True Tune settings hard to look at the screen without them. I honestly would prefer standard lcd. Oled is not good enough yet.

"Burn In's are normal"? Tell that to a judge. Im willing to spend the cost on a case to get it replaced under warrenty if that happens, because im pretty sure they wont have any grounds to defend themselfs.
Samsung phones, the new Pixels all have issues with burn-in. It's actually common in many types of displays even these newer types. Even AMOLED screens can get burn-in. I'm not sure why people are surprised by this.

Thanks man. For some reason I really appreciated reading your reply. You're probably right I should keep trying, thanks.

You're post also made me remember why I like this forum when it's at it's best. It's always been people wanting to help and connect with people in all walks of life. Haven't spent much time here in what seems like forever but glad to see things haven't changed ALL that much. Just gotta look for the good stuff ;). I think I'm glad I bought the iPhoneX whether or not the screen issue is something I want to live with. The cool thing is the nostalgia of the 10th anniversary of this earth-shattering invention. Warts and all, it's nice to be a part of it. There sure aren't many things I would say that about.

MacRumors users before iPhone X: LCD is terrible, OLED is way better, Apple is behind!

MacRumors users one day after iPhone X launch: Apple lied to us, OLED sucks and I don’t want it!

Never change, MacRumors.

OF COURSE Apple said it. It's a Samsung OLED, it's nothing special.
Except the Samsung phones, I can only speak for the Note 8, do not get a blue color shift at a small angle. You need to hold it nearly sideways.

Pixel yes, but I've not seen any reports of burn in after a few weeks on Samsung.
