Apple Says Over-the-Air iOS 10 Update Issue is Fixed

Don't get me wrong, Craig F. is a great presenter and has awesome hair, but as head of software, his QA is terrible. Scott Forstall was boring and iOS 6 was a dud (feature-wise) but he produced very stable iOS releases.
Forstall was the man. I'm still using iOS 6, hah.

Rule #1...always update thru iTunes
Rule #2...ALWAYS UPDATE THRU ITUNES

ITUNES UPDATE is 2.26 gigs...its 1.1 gigs OTA.

makes sense that the OTA one can have problems. Its probably deleting and replacing files....which can be tricky

Apple said us iPad Pro owners no longer needed iTunes ... we were supposedly good to go without hardwired updates.

I've never updated through iTunes and have never had an issue OTA. This time I was already on the GM though.

Not Apple's fault? Are you for real?

The victim blaming and apologism in this thread is beyond the pale.

Are you for real? Thanks for defining entitlement for us.

To many people tried to download to early. Happens EVERY time because people just can't wait.

iOS 10 upgrade engineers.

Instead of a simple upgrade from 9.3.5 to 10.0.1, i had to spend an hour getting errors trying to update/restore through iTunes (which i shouldn't have to since the iPhone "cut the cord") and after finally restoring now i have to wait hours for my iCloud backup to restore all the settings apps and media... But no its fine, Apple has fixed the problem now.. ITS OK i guess!

Well I've had to wait to update so missed some of the fun but so far I can't download it in iTunes anyway, it failed once and says it'll take an hour to do the remaining 1.5GB on a 100Mb connection right now, so I haven't missed all of the excitement this year thankfully. :)

Has anyone come up with a fix yet?
I did the OTA update on my 6S and it bricked it. I tried restoring it on iTunes 12.5.1 and it gives me "The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. The device cannot be found.

Please help !

My post did not qualify as histrionics.

For those who are still having trouble resolving this issue:
If you are unable to update or restore thru iTunes it's because the software servers are overloaded. You probably guessed that already. I just talked to Apple support and they confirmed that we'll have to wait until things slow down a bit before the iTunes update will work. So the good news is yes, it's fixed. The bad news is we can't actually access the fix for a little while.
I have the file download....the problem I am having now, is first it sat there at for 15 mintue or so at "Preparing software for update!". Nothing happened at all. unplugging iPhone plugging it back it. Just hanging. there. So, after another few minutes, I got "Unable to update, iPhone must be reset to factory settings, "Update/Cancel"...clicked update. How I have been sitting at "Verifying updated iPhone software" for about 10 minutes, apple logo on iPhone and progress bar at 50%...I have seen this before...

I probably lost everything, if this works, I will restore from my last backup, probably a few months old when I get home.

Not only that.......and it's FREE!

On a serious note:

Dear Apple users,

Please understand that any update should only be made AFTER a back up.

You do back up,RRRIGHTTT?

However that AFTER a back up scenario should only be AFTER waiting a day or two
to see what went wrong for most users.

Any large system upgrade breaks a few things you need. It is impossible for anybody to foresee.

In the meantime : If you did not follow common sense don't cry over bricked milk!

Most people just don't back up, but if they did all they would have to do is set up the phone as new and restore from the backup. Then if you choose too, try the update again.

Having the back up really come in handy when you need it.

Stuck with a useless iPhone SE, thanks a lot Apple.
Waited almost 3 months for this overpriced device, and now I can't be reached.
And I thought Vista was the worst digital error ever LOL
Why oh why people insist in updating "mission critical" devices when outside of home....

Yes it is Apple's fault, but you could have waited if being reached is number 1 priority!!

No problems here. UK (Leicestershire) on Three

iPhone SE running 10.0.1 :)

Happy days.

Update took about 45mins (download and install)

Anyone with a technical background knows that blaming Craig, Tim, or anyone else for these types of issues is a waste of time. This is technology. Sometimes bad things happen. You can try really hard to mitigate them, but it isn't as simple as people make it out to be.

Could Apple be better? Sure. Do we need to call for someone's head every time there's a glitch? No.

Anyone with a business background knows that the person at the top needs to take responsibility for putting the right people in the right places below to bring about success in any endeavor. This is business. There is no room for people who drop the ball repeatedly. You can give them a few chances, but at some point you have to stop, regroup, and find someone who can complete the task to the standard required.

Could Apple find someone who is better equipped to put the right people in the right places? Sure. They had one at one time.

Oh dear. What is going on with Apple these days - they can't even get a simple update to install without problems.

This is not the first time this has happened. This is a hugely popular product from a $0.5 T company.

Totally unacceptable. This is a very serious issue. There needs to be process changes, not just "we apologize".

Are you really this upset? Really? It's a tiny hiccup. And the phones weren't bricked... just updating through iTunes fixed it.

You're practically demanding a personal apology.

Are you for real? Thanks for defining entitlement for us.

Defining entitlement? Wow, hahah.

If the problem is 'too many people updating' then perhaps Apple can go with a staggered rollout for major updates and not allow everyone to update at once? Common practice for lots of other product updates.

But ya, go on some more about 'entitlement'.

I can't even restore to factory settings... after 50 % of extracting the software I get the message "could not find the device" and a link to an Apple support page that tells me to "update my computer" … lol.

Ideas?
