Cook is now doing whatever he can to make this Quarter's Revenue Number look as Rosy as possible, & he doesn't appear to care about AAPL's reputation OR the company's Users anymore ... that tells me, he knows he is on the Chopping Block !

It's the BIG picture, & it's crystal clear !

The Board really needs to exert itself & put a Stop to some of this ! ... but when you've got a Board that's been Hands-Off since Jobs brought most of them on-board, it might be difficult for most of them to Step It Up !

Hopefully, Cook's reign ends on the 28th !

Apple now says if it really bothers you, just bend it back. We all know how easy it is to bend these, so just bend it back. Bend it into anything you want, actually. It's like soft clay.

For weakling nerds, just use your knee.

If my iPad Pro 11” had come bent out of the box I would be asking for a replacement and if they refused then a refund. It may not affect the device but since I paid the $1200 or whatever it was for my iPad I expect it to be perfect out of the box.

When they tout next year that the next iPad has more structural integrity, will that then be their concession?

Also if its normal, why aren't they all bent?

Defect or design flaw or whatever you want to call it, give me one way in which a very very minutely curved iPad such as the one who in the photo at all affect the iPads ability to complete its designed tasks. Mountain out of a molehill folks. I own one and seriously couldn't care less if it has a slight curve to it. It probably has one and I haven't even noticed it....

every product has tolerances...

I agree, manufacturing defects are normal. But this is not acceptable.

Basically what Apple is saying here is "Yeah yeah okay yeah we know the tolerance allows for a bit of a bend, we know, no big deal guys".

But as a consumer I am hearing "Yup we are aware of the issue, we could tighten our tolerance at QC a bit, but that is not really in our interest so hopefully most of you just accept it & the ones who dont I guess if you complain we will help you out".

If we were talking some knock off, ultra cheap alternative to the iPad. I would be all over the "come on guys not a big deal" train. But Apple is supposed to the high end, high quality, top tier product. Yes I will admit the consumers of Apple products have extremely high expectations (even sometimes unrealistically so, but not in this case) but fact is Apple has CHOSEN to operate their business in the premium market, nobody forced them, no excuses for them at all.

Every time Apple fails at something stupid like this, the first thing I think about is those stories about Steve Jobs storming into the office yelling at employees & trashing their projects, & straight up telling them they are not good enough. Sure it is easy to paint him as a real ass but he is just looking out for the better of the company. I really hope I am right in believing he would not of allowed this, it is the little details that count.

Just because you don't care doesn't change the fact that this is a defect on a very expensive piece of hardware, and people have the right to be very upset about Apple dismissing the obvious defect as "normal".

If Apple demands ridiculous prices, then I think it's fair to demand "ridiculous" quality control. Otherwise Apple is scamming their own customers with false promises of a perfect product, which includes no bends.

On the flip side, doesn't this also mean that they'll return one that you accidently bend, as they won't be able to differentiate if it was bent from the factory?

This is such bs from apple. Absolutely bs.

It’s not a normal feature! It’s a flaw.

My dad’s 12.9” 2018 has this problem and I will be returning my 11”

They will probably fix it next year like they fixed bendgate with the iPhone 6 when the 6s came out

Apple Says Some 2018 iPad Pros Ship Bent

Some people when they unbox their iPad and get one thats bent be like:

And others that aren't happy about it and hearing, from others, not even Apple but others be like:

Not just in relation to politics in 2018 imminently 2019, this is a case of one event, interpreted as two entirely different movies. Yikes
[doublepost=1545269374][/doublepost]

Of course it was perfectly straight when they introduced it to the world.

We need another trailer with Jony's voiceover narrative glorifying and gaslighting the precision of the slight bend.

Nope. I tried to return my dads (12.9) within the return period and they said no.

All I could do was purchase apple care Plus which doesnt really help but was the safest move I could make.

Apple charges a high premium and explains during their product announcement by going into great details demonstrating how perfect the lines and design of the iPad are to get the masses to buy it. Now when it comes bent out of the box and they just brush it off...... maybe it would matter if it were something more meaningful to you. What if your weed was weak.....would you complain to your dealer especially if you paid top dollar for it but then he told you "you're smoking it wrong". I guess it would be ok right?

Fully agree. They want to justify astronomical prices and price increases with premium products. Ok, reasonable.

Where is the premium quality and attention to detail then that Apple used to be about that made their devices worth the extra money?

Yes, they charge a premium and go into great detail about their products. The bulk of the customers of the new iPad are perfectly happy. If I opened my iPad and it was bent, I’d be be bummed and pissed, but then I’d go hand it back and grab a new one. You get one without the defect, you enjoy the product, and life goes on. To expect perfection from any company manufacturing millions of devices is just naive. Here’s a tip. Apple, or any company for that matter, doesn’t care about you or owe you anything. You’re a dollar sign to them, take it or leave it. I’ve personally been generally pretty happy with Apple products over the years aside for software annoyances, but I’ve never had a defective product. I’ll make my buying decisions and you make yours, but I’m certainly not going be in an outrage like some of the people on here. More important things in life.

But the frequency that this is occurring has to be substantial enough that it warranted apple reaching out to verge to informally by proxy issue a statement. Right?

Can’t just be a macrumors thread that prompted this.

No internal accountability for poor build quality ????

Well, this is what happens when the public (including multiple tech youtube bloggers) excuse Apple for making a “bendable” iPad, and instead blame consumers for being too picky about build quality.

Apple will not make a stronger product until users demand it. We saw this with the iPhone 6 plus.

For $1000-$1800, tech consumers deserve higher build quality in the product.

Another person defending apples bad design till the very end

Nope. And so wrong. You seem not able to separate and understand the difference between forum juvenile behavior and Apple issues.
[doublepost=1545269825][/doublepost]
Because it's perfectly normal to spend up to $1900 and get a bent device?

Apple must love you if you agree.

See above.
[doublepost=1545269858][/doublepost]
Oh, excuse the many apple customers for not being pleased that a flawed product is being passed off as 'normal'. Seriously, what's wrong with you people?

See above. And learn.

Yup and it's cool to like different stuff. But since Tim there have been a lot of these issues and a lot of price increases to fleece customers. Read up on Apple history to see how this worked out for them in the past. It almost killed the company. Things seem to be heading down that path now with Apple.

It used to be simple - buy a Mac - it's a few more $$ but more reliable, and has better specs. Now it's like 2x the price with worse specs than other computers. And chances are you will have issues with your Mac. That's not good for Apple.

I guess I’ll cross that bridge if I need to. For now, I am good with the Apple products I own and haven’t run into any problems. I can’t worry about other people’s bent iPad’s or whether or not Apple doesn’t make enough money. I make purchase decisions based on my own value of a product and that’s it. If they start becoming crap for me, I won’t buy. For now, I’m good.
