Apple is pathetic for even bringing it up and saying it’s normal. But people on here will defend Apple till the end.
Not only will they defend Apple... they will bash posters saying their iPad's are bent. They will give you a detailed instruction on how to use it, store it and move it. It's already here in the other topics. SMH

Time to fire Timmy. Apple has become a joke in the last couple of years when it comes to consumer friendlines. And they just keep on pushing with stupid things like this. Maybe they could've got away with that back in 2010, when they were the leaders in this segment, but not today. This will kick them in the longterm harden than they imagine.

and yet the hyperbolic MRF is, once again, asking for Cook's resignation.

Out of all this bent iPad fiasco news, those who are dreaming of Cook being ousted of out of Apple, it’s never an accurate representation of the real world, it’s just ‘tech drama’ that’s manufactured because others enjoy articles like this. It’s kind of comical actually to think others here believe Cook will be ‘forced out’ because of an unverified amount of bent iPads, but I agree, it’s the Forum rhetoric you would expect nonetheless.

When Microsoft shipped Surface Pros with screens that became unusable due to flicker after they got warm and people put their devices in freezers to get them working again - I remember Microsoft's answer was that it happens to only a small number of units and that people should just replace them if they had issues. Still, I considered Satya Nadella an excelent CEO then (and do now).

A small number of iPads (and it is small, don't let the forum cognitive bias fool you) getting slightly bent out of the box is a much more benign issue, and yet the hyperbolic MRF is, once again, asking for Cook's resignation. And in a time when they literally make the best iPhone, iPad and iMac in their history, their audio team is the best it has ever been, their chip team is literally leading the industry and iCloud is finally - you know - working for the first time since Jobs introduced it.
Can you qualify, “and it is small”, please. A number would be nice. Just a rough approximation with a link for reference.

Thanks.

The problem with bending is not only aesthetic.

Far from it.

Bending will place stress on the pads holding the chips causing erratic behavior and eventually total failure -- such as it was with the so called "touch disease".

This is why structural rigidity is paramount.
If bending is acceptable to Apple, then these devices are cursed and will experience shortened life-cycles.

But not to worry. These devices will eventually reappear as "Certified Refurnished Products" where they are advertised like new with bending treated as normal./s

Oh man I had a bent 12,9” 1st gen and feel your pain! This would drive me nuts. I hope there’ll be a class action lawsuit and they will set up a free return program eventually.

I think we will see Apple stock under $150 very soon.

Well, I'm very curious how this will turn out. Hopefully in a good way for customers. For me the 2019 will be the year of my first hackintosh. The best product Apple released in 2018 is AW4. Nothing else is worth the money right now. Good lord, what were they doing the whole year? No Mac Pro, no iMac, Macbook Pro was just a spec update, Mac Mini just a spec update, XS just a spec update, XR meh, no AirPods, no AirPower and badly designed iPad.

Apple is clearly in Tim Cook's era. Tim Cook has served his customers, the investors well, but he has forgotten who are the real customers that is funding all this. Tim needs to go.

He loves his customers. Profoundly. Holding his hands in a praying gesture.

Tim Cook needs to go back to his old job, and Scot Forstall needs to be CEO and also bring back all the engineers who have left after Tim Cook became CEO. Tim Cook has had his run, and has proven where his priorities are.

Calm down and don't get all your panties in a bunch. I'm sure if you buy an iPad Pro and it's bent, you can just go back to the store and exchange or return it without any issues, problem solved.
That only applies within the return window. Afterwards it will require a fight with Apple getting them to exchange it, remember according to Apple, it’s normal and not a defect.

To be fair, how can Apple know you did not bend it yourself afterwards? I mean I am all for replacing when bought, after that I guess it will have to be proved how it became bent.

Especially with all the youtubers not playing this bending game test!

Jony Ive needs to stop this quest for ultra thinness. Just because he’s upset he’s a chubby ****er now! He doesn’t have to take it out on the rest of us and keep making devices thinner!

I can only guess the number from experience - and by that I mean comparing the reaction and media coverage to previous issues and "gates" and numbers of affected users in those instances with the current situation - but, I understand this is not scientific and, of course, only Apple has real data. You're right that I presented this "guess" as a fact in my post, and that was wrong - I should've said "and I strongly believe it is small". So, once again, my mistake: it was just a guess and I don't have a link for reference, because that guess relies on numerous experiences following Apple news reports, social media and this forum for years, not on empirical data. Should've phrased it differently.

Btw, my strong guess is: less than 1%.

Why would you ask ‘aevan’ for a number, when Apple doesn’t even know the amount of units affected. I think it’s evident no one knows the _exact_ number of units affected.

Hence the article quote-

Apple told The Verge that some 2018 iPad Pro models are indeed shipping with a "very slight bend in the aluminum chassis,"

Tim Cook became CEO. Tim Cook has had his run, and has proven where his priorities are.

Same as Jobs (and any other CEO): profit.

Cook also seems to have a personal interest (how sincere he is is something we can only guess) in privacy, human rights and security so that, at least, is a plus. Also, Apple is doing really well financially and, as I keep saying, their latest iPhones and iPads are some of the best devices in Apple history, iMac is also amazing, screens are great, sound team is great, their CPU team is off the charts, services are doing well, Watch is becoming something really good - I'd say Tim is doing his job really well.

This is why I didn't buy one. I test drove a couple of them in store, and the entire structure just felt too weak. With a small amount of torsion, the case flexed. Same when putting a small amount of pressure on the back of the case - for example when holding it with two hands and my fingers placed on the rear of the iPad.

It's sad to say, but the device felt cheap - "delicate", if you will. It's a shame because I liked the display, and responsiveness of the device. I made the decision to wait it out until they redesign it, or change the frame as they did with the phones.

C'mon Apple. I'm feeling the fool for wanting to buy your products. People can only take so many mistakes before they just leave...

I really don't know how you define a "small amount of torsion", but mine doesn't flex when I try to flex it. It also doesn't feel weak. I'm sure I could flex it if I wanted too, but I also believe I could flex most of metal objects that size, from previous iPads to trays and metal plates without too much effort if I really wanted.

Perhaps you're a much stronger person than me.

Is 'structure feeling weak' really the reason you're not getting one?

Based off Apples response to the bending, did Apple imply/say anything about them ‘changing the design or the frame’? I don’t think they did. They may not change anything at all, if this is truly what they believe that this is not a defect or an Anomaly, that it is in fact part of the manufacturing process, where the casing will be exactly as they intended it to be.
