OK so I've taken a look at this thread and couldn't tell if this specific scenario came up and/or was completely discussed.

If I'm not a registered dev, should I go through the OTA route to update or clean install via iTunes?

Same situation too. I did the hard reset, and it doesn't get recognized by iTunes. Yes I'm registered developer and registered the UDIDs of my devices. The iPad update went fine, just the iPhone got bricked.
Since iTunes doesn't see it, I don't see what I can do. Anyone ? Any idea ?

dont download beta software from torrents, and install it on main device?

OTA no clean install

torrents has nothing to do with it. Its the same ipsw. Have you ever heard of uploading files to a site

- iPad Mini Wifi: i installed using Alt-update, doesn't work

just tried Alt-Restaure, works fine :)

- iPhone 5: installation done thru OTA update, also works fine

both my devices are under Beta 2 now, no developer account :)

My suggestion is to stay away from this beta. it has bricked some iphones for an unknown reason. It might happen to you aswell.

As I said, I'm a registered developer, with all my devices registered. Yes I downloaded the ipsw (in dmg file) from Apple's website. This is not the source of the problem.

Edit : I updated the iPhone using OTA, and updated the iPad from ipsw file (of course).

"ATFDL reports that users who installed beta 1 without officially signing up for Apple's developer program and registering their UDIDs are finding that their devices have been bricked after installing beta 2."

Does that go for registering a UDID from a third party site? Cause mine is working fine.

Yes.until said site gets kicked out and all those UDIDs deleted if not banned for violating the t&c

Entering DFU Mode (Official Instructions)
Plug your device into your computer.
Turn off the device.
Hold the Power button for 3 seconds
Hold the Home button without releasing the Power button for 10 seconds
Release the Power Button but keep holding the Home button
Keep holding the Home button until you are alerted by iTunes saying that it has detected a device in Recovery Mode
Make sure the device screen is blank and no logos are present

Exiting DFU Mode
Hold Home and Power Button till the Apple Logo appears

I meant having to lower the brightness would increase battery life, but even lower it still lacks contrast necessary for overall use. Apple fixed this issue with the keyboard, thankfully.

Good points, however it's not the text but the buttons being replaced with text and obscure text symbols such as "<". When someone looks at text where a button once existed to distinguish it better, it's confusing. I've had my parents (in their 60's and 70's who have used iPhones since day 1), and others use iOS 7. They all found it much more confusing to navigate. Whereas those in my age demographic (36) and below picked it up very quickly.

The back buttons are the same including the text labels. The only thing that changed is the missing border around the buttons. This is just a slight hiccup as people get used to the new interface.

Well this is interesting... anyone has an idea how these iphones can be unbricked??

DFU mode.

Hold Power+Home for 10 seconds, release power button and hold for 7-10 more seconds while connected to iTunes. iTunes will tell you its in DFU mode. Download the IPSW from developer center and do a clean install.

What a ******** comment.
Considering your logic, no1 would be allowed to complain about politics because they "could go into politics and make it better themselves" or shut up.
Damn!

If you complain without arguments, but just giving your own subjective thoughts , as it has been since beta release (for 80% or the cases), then better don't complain!. So complain all you want but have an objective reason. And if you believe you can do better, go to Apple and present your work, im pretty sure they are looking for a brilliant mind as yours.

i dont ever recall registering my UDID anywhere. I only ever downloaded the IPSW from (i think) imodzone. How screwed am I?

You ain't screwd stop listening to them. iModzone has been around for a long time and ATFDL has been a alternative site for iModzone. ATFDL just once your money and when you go on the website now it don't display that

I am downloading the official 6.1.4 from apple. thank you for reminding me about the DFU mode. lets hope for the best.

Yup, and that's the issue. I don't mind, however it truly is not as intuitive for many. We are all tech savvy, keep in mind many non-tech savvy consumers use iOS. My parents and others found it to be more difficult, and preferred a little more definition. I hated the skeuomorphism and am glad it is gone, however iOS 7 seems too simple and could benefit from a little nuance and definition. :)

You're right, I really didn't think DFU mode would work when stuck at that stage of an update. Actually installing from the ipsw downloaded from apple developer's web site. Let's see what happens ... Thanks anyway.

You have valid concerns and I also share some of your fears concerning discoverability with older users, but once someone figures out that the back button is always on the top left with a < icon they will remember it no?
