So to clarify... can someone with beta 3 installed tell us if all non 3.0 apps are or are NOT working?

Please only beta 3 users comment.

I am also a registered developer and feel at this point
I need to clarify what this statement means:

"Applications targeting pre-OS 3.0 devices are unable to be tested on the latest beta of iPhone OS."

This applies to DEVELOPERS only. It's referring to the testing of applications with SDK version 3.0 Beta 3, and the ability to compile and run test builds from Xcode.
From my tests, all applications I have bought or downloaded (which currently target iPhone OS 2.0), are working on iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 3.

Granted Apple's 'wording' on the situation could have been a little clearer, but that's how it is. It's terrible news for developers who have updated,
are still developing for 2.0, and are still not aware this is the case, but for everyone else. Relax.

It's only terrible if you lack professionalism by not reading the Release Notes before you upgrade.

I apologize if this was already posted but I just noticed that skype no longer works on 3G with this beta. It seems that one of Apple's main goals was to fix the 3G loophole in skype with this beta release. I don't think it's a coincidence that skype released their update almost the exact time Apple released beta 3.

3.0b2 didn't work with my headunit via usb/ipod connector at all, 3.0b3 worked the first time, and then never again since, no matter what mode the car is in, if it's turned off and on, if i connect the phone with ipod app open, or even playing a song, or off completely, or restart the phone.

Oddly enough I seem unable to force quit the ipod app.

I'm developing for target 3.0 but this sucks that I have to pick up my old nano 4gb with some music to use in the car..

Yes, on this beta release.

This is good, it will piss off the pirates.

Pirates? PSSHAW!!!

Are you referring to those of us enjoying the freedoms afforded to us by our Jailbroken / Unlocked iPhones?

Two words,
EAT ME.

Have a great day though!

This is kind of big news.

What happens when you don't update the Skype app?

ALL 3rd Party Apps available currently in the App Store work on iPhone beta three. If it works on 2.0, it works on 3.0.

100% false. There are changes to some APIs that some apps use. One of my apps crashed immediately on launch in beta 1, but worked again in beta 2. The camera app Darkroom Premium does not work in 3.0, the app crashes when trying to take a picture. There are plenty of apps that do not work in 3.0 that work fine in 2.x.

LOL! Someone just fell off the turnip truck! The internet is all about passing judgment, before all else.

Quick Question!

Does anyone think Apple's iPhone hardware refresh will include 2 NAND flash slots? SOUND OFF PEOPLE!

What happens when you don't update the Skype app?

I'm not sure. I actually updated my skype app before installing beta 3 and 3G was still working. I'm just guessing but I think both updates work together to close the 3G loophole. Can anyone confirm if skype still works on 3G with beta 3 and not skype 1.01?

It was an app upgrade not 3.0 beta 3

I'm not sure I'm understanding your statement here. Are you stating that it was the skype update alone the closed the 3G loophole and not Apple's beta 3? I happen to know for a fact that the skype update alone did not close the 3G loophole. I updated skype before installing iPhone OS 3.0 beta 3 and I was still able to make calls via a 3G connection.

Changes

This is great! Very snappy.

So far I see two changes. The locator in youtube is different and the copy and paste dialogue box is now easier to navigate with a much improved interface to allow you to see what you are selecting. Check it out!!

I am still on beta 2 and its closed, wifi only...other threads have reported the same thing. Its the only feasible answer.:( My beta 3 has not arrived yet.

That's very odd because I was able to still make calls via a 3G connection on beta 2 after installing the skype update. I actually read on another thread that it was still working for others as well. I would not have installed the updater otherwise.

God, I hope they've gotten rid of having to unlock the phone with a finger swipe when the phone is sleeping and you double-tape the Home button.

When the phone is sleeping, and I double-tap the Home button, I want to go straight to my phone favorites, not have to do the finger swipe gesture and *then* double-tap the Home button.

Double tapping when it's asleep brings up the iPod controls. They will not remove that functionality because it is useful.

Hmmm, the only difference between us is I only have edge. I have no 3G in my area. Maybe that is the diff...who knows.

Do Apple in-ear headphones work with the latest beta volume-wise?

Negatory. Just tried with 3.0b3 and the volume does not work. My personal opinion is that the volume toggle switch on the side creates an external sound prevention of sorts, so that the only ways to change the volume are by that toggle, or by using the touch screen.
