Awww darn! I put my MacBook Air to sleep. Looks like I will just download tomorrow evening.

This sounds like your Macbook Air is a child that was difficult to get to sleep and you don't want to wake him or her up. Hahahaha.

Anyways. On topic, I'm not a developer, but I'm interested to see if we get any more news about the 3rd Generation iPhone hardware when those curious types get at this.
Or do you all think Apple has made sure to not leave any more "clues" in this one?

I don't think Apple "left" any "clues" in there in the first place, they are just testing the hardware with the real public firmware to see what happens....

...*Thinks*

Actually, I'm not sure if they leave clues in on purpose, but I think we'll see more and more stuff pop up as we get closer. They need to test the hardware on real firmware, so they need the code in there.

Hold on, does that mean old apps don't run on the new OS? Am I reading that wrong?

You're not reading it wrong...you're just not reading it; period.

Just put the mouse down s-l-o-w-l-y and move back to your picture books.

People apps work (period) the warning given by apple is intented for the SDK and not the iPhone 3.0 beta 3 firmware

ALL 3rd Party Apps available currently in the App Store work on iPhone beta three. If it works on 2.0, it works on 3.0.

100% false. There are changes to some APIs that some apps use. One of my apps crashed immediately on launch in beta 1, but worked again in beta 2. The camera app Darkroom Premium does not work in 3.0, the app crashes when trying to take a picture. There are plenty of apps that do not work in 3.0 that work fine in 2.x.

Correct some apps do not work bit these are limited.

I apologize if this was already posted but I just noticed that skype no longer works on 3G with this beta. It seems that one of Apple's main goals was to fix the 3G loophole in skype with this beta release. I don't think it's a coincidence that skype released their update almost the exact time Apple released beta 3.

What happens when you don't update the Skype app?

Yes, apple was so worried that people were using skype ove the 3g net that they couldn't wait but update their OS immediatly. Guys come to logic here. I have use the beta 3 for a couple of hours. Te difference with previous builds is the fact that the iPhone 3.o is finally useable and smooth.

Yes, on this beta release.

This is good, it will piss off the pirates.

Pirates? PSSHAW!!!

Are you referring to those of us enjoying the freedoms afforded to us by our Jailbroken / Unlocked iPhones?

Two words,
EAT ME.

Have a great day though!
:p

Did you guys notice that factory unlocked iPhones are flatting the market. You choose your freedom but without jailbreaking the os and making it so slow for being able to use 1 or 2 apps. By the wag I am using an iPhone 3g factory unlocked running 3.0 beta 3 and never jailbreaked, jailbreaking is for kids.

God, I hope they've gotten rid of having to unlock the phone with a finger swipe when the phone is sleeping and you double-tape the Home button.

When the phone is sleeping, and I double-tap the Home button, I want to go straight to my phone favorites, not have to do the finger swipe gesture and *then* double-tap the Home button.

Double tapping when it's asleep brings up the iPod controls. They will not remove that functionality because it is useful.

I bet you they will. The double tap will be essential to switching between apps. Double tapping will take you to the previous app. That will enable to multitasking when using 2 apps. Think about it.

I cant imagine them making the double-click function the way you describe.

Either way they are going to have to fix it.

I think this is quite common for software betas... Our product (not Apple related) is in beta right now and went out with known bugs. Beta can target a number of different features that may or may not be dependent on some open bug. Sometimes the developers will not have an ETA on a bug fix and often it takes much longer to figure out what is causing the bug then it does to fix it). But, rather than hold up an entire round of testing we go out with what we can. Of course, this all depends on how likely it is that the bug holds up other feature validation/testing.

Two things I've noticed so far: 1) speed. dramatically faster then the earlier betas. 2) When the audio minijack isn't in use, the popup audio controls and lock screen audio controls show "Dock Connector" where the volume slider would normally be.

I actually thought beta 2 was usable and smooth as well. So far I don't really see many differences in beta 2 and beta 3. I don't think Apple was as concerned about people using skype over 3G as AT&T was. I'm sure AT&T has a say in what apple does and does not block in their software.

Skype did work over 3G after its update and before beta 3 so it's a fact that Apple did something to block skype. I'm not the only one to claim this to be true. I'm not saying that this was the "only" change apple made in beta 3 but it sure does seem to be one of the "few" changes.

Each build gets better and better. This one is definitely faster than the previous one. I'm really glad they're still supporting us 1st gen iPhone owners. I just hope we'll get video recording (that is a big one for me). MMS would be nice, but I can live without it.

One small, fairly stupid, different I just noticed: When sending a text, your text box where you typed fades from white to green instead of instantly changing from white to green. Cool.... :-/ Another one is scrubbing speed when you hold the white dot in the song progress bar, a lot easier to find certain parts of a song.

There will be no multitasking on iPhone, they already announced that...

Alright lets get something straight because if there is one thing that I do not like is people who pretend to understand the iphone enviroment, I append here below a list of application that are able to work on the background:

1)
phone app
ipod app
voice recording (except when phone app is making a call)
Internet tethering (not exactly an app but still)

2) When I stated multitasking, i did not choose the sentence "working in the background" thus I did not imply that any iphone app would just work in the background, there is the "notification service" for that. What I meant was that if double tapping would take you to the previous app you been working on, it could potentially enable you to switch between 2 apps that you want to interact with.

Hope this is clear.

...as mud

You forgot Safari...it also works in the background

Calm down papichullo. I just took you for a n00b who had no idea what you were talking about, I didn't know you were the defender of the universe.
