Tethering

Does anyone know if At&T charges you extra right now if you tether through the beta or if it just goes under your unlimited data plan. Thanks

Tethering through the data plan without a tethering plan violates the at&t TOS and you could be subject to additional charges... it does work though. When 3.0 becomes official I'd imagine AT&T will offer a tethering plan for the iPhone like the do for blackberries, etc...

To get it working currently you need to install a modified ipcc file anyways...

Anybody notice that on a 1st gen phone, under network and cellular data network, it is a blank page and you cant enter an apn or username/password. :(

This is quite bad news for me as I am not an AT&T user. I hope someone figures out a solution for this. I wonder if setting the APN settings in 2.2.1 then upgrading again will work.

You can set your apn settings in a custom ipcc file and then update your carrier settings with your new modified ipcc...

For those who seem to have tethering working "out the box", did you do anything to get it working? I don't see the option on my phone?

i noticed you are successfully using bluetooth output for music, how did you accomplish this in 3.0? Also, how do you have a % marker for your battery?

I will be happy if some developer will crack OS 3.0 and find some traces of iChat AV there. Strangely there is not much info about it yet. :(

What I would love to see one day, is the ability to control the ipod feature using finger swipes, swipe right and left for next and previous track, up and down for volume, double tap to pause.

This is one of the main reason I jailbreak my phone, so I can install Pockettouch, which does this.

I have mentioned it to Apple but received no feedback and am not sure if this is high up on their to do list.

But I think it would really boost the user experience if you do not have to look at the screen to control the ipod feature.

Battery %?

Morning,

In several posts here I have noticed that you have the battery icon and also the % of the battery to the left of the existing icon. How do you enable that feature or find it?

Passcode lock interval

I noticed that beta 3 now allows you to activate passcode lock at time intervals other than immediately. This is old functionality that was missing from the last two betas (and was very annoying).

I'm now able to watch normal quality YouTube on 3G instead of the mobile quality stream that I always used to get. I still get the mobile one on Edge. The normal quality takes about 10 seconds to start but after that streams perfectly. I'm on O2 Ireland.

Safari does indeed work in the background (for the doubters). To prove it, go to a page that plays some sort of stream that will open in the browser's QuickTime control. You can then hit the home screen to go back to the Springboard and open another app and the sound will still be playing. That's how I listened to SHOUTcast streams before 2.0. Sometimes I still do that so that I can use another app while listening (until they let the dam iPod app play SHOUTcast streams :( grrr).
