can we actually get 10.6.2 somewhere on the net? I presume that as it is an update then it is absolutely legal for us to download it and the only person that could get into trouble is the person that broke NDA but for us who download it it should be ok. So anyone has a link please?
I hope its ok to ask.

There may be another seed - hard to say if this is the RC. Just wait till it is released.

To be honest, I don't mind if there is another release as I would like to have something to bridge the time between now and the release time.
I know it already fixes some issues with Maya and those fixes are really crucial for me so sooner the better. :)

The only thing that can truly fix maya is for Maya to get off their asses and write some decent code!

Do you REALLY want OS 10.6 telling your SSD what it should erase? :D

Yes, I do. Windows 7 does (it does TRIM).

Think about it - if the OS volume manager and/or file system has a bug about which blocks are in use - your data is fried long before the SSD wear leveling algorithms come into the picture.

Apple is a master at selling the sizzle, not the steak. Nobody buys a Mac because they need a solid platform for long term production needs; they buy it for Teh Shiny!

Funny, but the analogy doesn't work. Apple is a master at selling "thin and shiny".

No restaurant selling "thin steaks" has stayed in business ;) !

Please look at it and understand Apple does NOT fix all bugs that are caused by 3rd party vendors.

So, a kernel panic when using an NVIDIA graphics card sold by Apple. And a third party to resolve... Hmm.. I wonder who that could be?

fixes on imacs

Does anyone know if 10.6.2 will fix the screen flickering and screen noise problem in 21.5" and 27" imacs?

My ONLY beef with SL is Mail, and it's crashes. Without warning it'll just crash, and I get the "Sending to Apple" thing. There's no pattern, or anything. Just a crash; weird. iCal did a couple of times, but Mail happens at least a few times a week.

I got the same thing with Leopard. Usually when right clicking for a menu. Once a week at least. Been sending in reports every time.....

Windows 7 does TRIM with an update from INTEL which they have now pulled because of issues with data corruption.

For the love of God, I just hope this fixes all the crap that's been going on in Safari. It literally crashes 5-10 times per day.

I really miss the stability of Leopard. I hope 10.6.2 takes us back there.

I switched to mac when unibody macbook came out...and i honestly loved it. Leopard was trully stable, no bugss.. I upgraded to snow leopard when it came out, i feel like apple wanted us to experience what it feels like to have a Vista experience..
Let me tell, safari not only uses a half a gig of my ram, it hangs all the time..programs like Adobe acrobat, word, dont run as smoothly as they used to under leopard...
I installed the beta of windows 7 when it came out a couple of months ago for my mom, and its honestly flawless..doesnt have a single bug, but i feel like snow leopard is in its alpha period not even beta

Does anyone have clue about what networking issues are adressed in this update?

My story:

I switched to Mac about a month ago and since then I have had a lot of problems connecting wirelessly to D-link routers. First I got terrible speed and unreliable connection towards my existing DIR-655 Wireless N router. I got it working reasonably after changing place on the router (now it is less than 2 meters from where I usually sit) and trying different settings after reading numerous forum posts on the subject (there are a lot of people having similar problems!). I wasn't satisfied with the speed, though.

To increase the speed I bought a D-Link DAP-1522 access point to separate my 802.11g clients and my 802.11n clients to the 2,4 GHz and 5 GHz bands respectively (having g clients on the same net as n slows the entire network down). This is how the Airport Extreme does it (but I don't want that one as it doesn't provide a web GUI making it impossible to administrate remote).

It took me a lot of fiddling before the MBP even connected at n speed to the new access point (g seems to be less of a problem). For example, when in n-only mode it doesn't even discover the network (this is true also for the DIR-655). When in a/n mode (WPA/WPA2 AES/TKIP) it discovers it and I can connect at 300 Mb/s. However, it seems that the network card forgets the network after a while and I am again unable to discover or connect (e g after a night in sleep mode).

I also can add that I have two PCs on the same network and they do not have the same problems.

So, Apple; it's time to prove that you can deliver both premium hardware and software. I have high hopes for this update!

D-Link sucks. My problems went away getting a Linksys Wireless. I believe that Apple uses Broadcomm(?) for Wireless. The D-Link was playing coverage lottery on my friends laptop.

Well, I used to agree. I had a number of D-link routers as well as a Netgear and I was never really satisfied with any of them. I don't really know what made me buy the DIR-655 a couple of years ago. Maybe it was the good reviews... Anyway, I never regretted that choice (at least not when still using PCs). The router has performed flawlessly and I really think the new line of D-link routers are much better than the old.

So, in this case I actually think it is Apple's fault. That said, you can of course get rid of the problems with another brand which works better with the MBP.

I really hate it when new gadgets don't work as expected. Especially expensive things like a MBP! Maybe I should surrender and buy myself a Linksys instead...

I'd get a trial if you could, I am using an older Airport card in this eMac. So the result may vary with the Newer N-Spec ones.

I'd never used a newer MB to compare the Wireless behavior.

When are they going to fix the stinkin' popping speaker issue for external speakers? Driving me nuts with my iMac. The freeware app AntiPop had fixed this issue for me until Snow Leopard, but now the problem is back.

ok i'm glad i'm nerdy enough to read through all forum posts... i nearly sold my speakers to get some more because i thought they were broke... turns out it's Apple's problem... like always!

And for those who have been saying this: Services packs? Are you joking? Why would you not want a massive update for the system? This means that large and small issues that all/some of the end users have will be FIXED. Why does this upset you? Please tell me, I'm dying to know.

Why would we not want a massive update for the system... Snow Leopard was a massive "update" for the system... seems to have made more problems without a substantial amount of features.... at least with Leopard we got **** loads of features which were broke... but with SL we get pretty much nothing and a **** load of problems

Wow, you guys seem to have a ******** of problems with snow leopard. Am I the only one not having any serious glitches, besides some safari 4 beachballing which I had also with Leopard?

For me Snow Leopard is as stable as Leopard (past 10.5.5) has been.

depends... if i just do basic stuff SL is better than great (except Safari... think thats down to Flash Player 99% of the time) but when you start using 3rd party apps or complicated stuff within Finder etc it is becoming a pain in the ass tbh

Does anyone know if 10.6.2 fixes the Error 109 with Time Machine? That was the only problem with SL that made me roll back to 10.5.8.

not sure what this involves.. yet then again my MBA is rarely backed up lol (despite it being automatic lol) but a problem i have experienced is that if i download a file legally :) then copy it to the Time Capsule via Finder when it finishes copying (providing it is a single/selection of files not a folder) it doesn't appear as a file but as a partial file which claims to still be in use by Finder even after a restart. Anyone else experiencing this just copy the file again (and stop if too large or delete the second).

In addition when starting my iMac and loading up and connecting to the Time Capsule (via Shared on Sidebar Finder) i connect and it loads the files but nothing shows so i have to connect a second time (not really a pain in the ass i suppose because once i am connected and files show it is fine) just something else to point out.

3rd problem (yes 3rd with the time capsule) - when copying folders/files that are extremely large (i have narrowed it down to approx 50+GB) the time capsule does approx 10% then the TC HDD shuts down (or stops spinning, whatever it is i'm not sure) and all applications using it cannot transfer data from the TC (e.g. watching a movie in Quicktime X stops) the whole of Finder crashes and cannot be Relaunched and when attempted freezes OS X requiring hard reboot and i have to unplug TC to get it to work again

Sorry to rant on and on and would be grateful for any suggestions.. i feel complaining to Apple is a waste of keyboard strokes!

I think it's just the two of us. ;)

Upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard was the worst decision I've ever made. Buggy as hell and I haven't noticed any useful new functionality. And the worst part, Xerox didn't update the drivers for my color printer at work, so now I can't print anything. I realize that's not Apple's fault, but nobody had any problem blaming Microsoft when manufacturers didn't update their drivers for Vista.

I think it's just the two of us. ;)

Make that 3, i don't know what people do to there systems to have so much problems, i have 5 macs at home older and newest moddels and have updated them all to SL, so not even clean installs and the only problem i have so far is with a silicon image driver ,the SIL3132 for my e-sata card , that gave me kernel panics on my macpro, but as Carl told me there is a new beta driver for that now to so that should be fixed or is close to a fix too, and that doesnt even have anything to do with apple software at all.

And then there are people here saying that the tril windows 7 software is 100% bugfree, yeah sure, dream on, or better go back to windows and stop complaining here.

Of course not everything is top yet with SL but the problems i see some people have here must have something to do with plug ins or ad ons or stuff like that, otherwise i can't understand were those problems come from.

Anyway hope this update will help the issues some people are having here and i'm sure that it will make SL even more stable then it already is.

i don't know what people do to there systems to have so much problems

As far as I'm concerned, just the usual stuff, you know, using a variety of apps involving graphics, sound, video, VMWare ...
I have another SL system installed on a extra volume and there, no freezing, no beachball, no crashes but hey, I only use that system to run Disk Warrior!
The thing is, with intensive use of SL, weird things happen after a while.
But I might have solved some of my problems at least: I migrated my user account to a new one, assuming the account might have been corrupted. Well it helped: SL is back to reasonable speed and Safari feels more snappy again. I followed the step by step procedure described in this MacFixIt article, and deleted the system cache. It all took 3 hours, but it was worth it:

Was my user account really corrupted? Don't know for sure. Anybody else gave it a try?

Edit: a few hours later, a game crashes and Safari's BeachBall is back :(

RE: SnowLeopard Beta?

Is Snow Leopard really still a beta OS? It's like there's a new service pack every couple of weeks. I don't remember any version of OSX being like this.

Maybe they are trying to keep up with the STELLAR updates that Microsoft puts out. :D I know every Wednesday I come in work, I have to load new updates on the Windows servers which (of course) require a restart.

I swear 3/4 of their updates are to undo an update which they thought would take care of a problem but didn't, so they recall it (got their idea for updates from Ford/Chevy/GM, eh? :)
